UPDATE: Here is Gene Wang’s story from on the ground in China. One excerpt:

What began as a goodwill trip to China for the Georgetown men’s basketball team turned violent Thursday night, when its exhibition game against the Bayi Rockets deteriorated into a melee during which players exchanged blows, chairs were thrown and spectators tossed full water bottles as Hoyas players and coaches headed to the locker room at Olympic Sports Center Stadium.

We should have sent Catholic school boys over instead... Oh, that’s right. Georgetown University is a Catholic school.

I do wonder who thought it was a great idea to send a bunch of inner-city youths to China on a “goodwill tour”? I understand the Chinese team is part of their army too. Just a really questionable idea.

I think it’s pretty clear from the article, that the Chinese team were coached to not back down from the more aggressive Americans. The Americans in turn, didn’t back down either.

Kind of like when the NHL allstars toured Russia many years ago and kicked their butts.

Based on a Bulletin Board post from a Georgetown fan at the game, the violence seems to have been started by the Chinese.

This is a direct diplomatic poke in the eye. Sports is politics and the communists in china KNOW that they are going to be the alpha dog in Asia. They wanted everybody , including their people to see how they fought the Americans and made them leave losing face.

Think about the culture there. A guest is usually treated with respect because it reflects honor on you. A “dog” is treated like they treated our team. Hahahahahahaha. Do you think the government didn’t authorize this? If this wasn’t condoned by the Chinese government, the coaches and players would be enroute to reeducation camps. The police at the scene would have cracked some skulls of the crowd for the water bottles and chair throwing.

I look at the horizon and I see war. They have too many males, rural populations by the MILLIONS poring into cities built on an economic bubble. Once we are unable to buy chinese goods, inflate our money so they are left holding worthless paper, and their economy collapses watch out Taiwan and Korea. What are we going to do with armies of limp wristed lovers and pregnant undeployable women?

I think it was in the 1970s that China opened up its universities to Africans from ‘communizing’ countries. Then they had to send them all home because they kept raping the local Chinese women. I guess rage was brewing for a few decades.

Also, this picture is a contrast to how long it took Yao Ming to learn to foul as well as American players.

Nope, American Blacks are NOT feared, especially by their men and especially by their army. If you have the impression that the Chinese "fear" these undisciplined clowns, think again. They look at them like they do the Japanese, Koreans and Vietnamese.... like human garbage. Racist?...uh...just a little.

The Chinese have just built an aircraft carrier, have the largest engineering project ever built on earth, and are trying to show everybody that even our "best and most athletic" citizens (notice it was Georgetown and not Duke???) who would also be in the army, that they can't take a nice little beat down without packing away and running.

Politics, not sports but politics was what this was about. Our BLACK president, our BLACK basketball team..etc.... can't face confrontation without what???? Backing down. We looked like weak, undisciplined thugs that can only be treated with aggressive actions....then we back down. It's the opposite of speak softly and carry a big stick..... we now, talk smack and then call our lawyer or mama.

I've said it before and I'll repeat it. Look out for your sons, there's a war coming and there's a lot of Chinese males that are expendable between the ages of 15-26. Lots of them.

This was the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games without Jesse Owens.

this is what leaders project

putin

bibi netanyahu

.....

and we got this...

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

yeah... just tell me how much the Chinese "fear" American Blacks.... or even Kenyan Blacks.

you are correct and the reason was economic and cultural. The men in power decided that we were weak, distracted and could easily be defeated because of their culture of the Warrior and their absolute revulsion and hatred of the weak or cowardly.

The only problem we have now is that China isn't an island, has tens of MILLIONS of men....MILLIONS !!!!! that are going to be unmarried, unemployed and soon to be sitting in cities getting in trouble without jobs because they're centrally planned economy is going to fail like all other do and the leaders aren't going to want to be strung up like Mussolini.

Your assessment is, in my opinon, correct. Only those in denial can not see it. I actually believe that they can see it also, they just refuse to admit it.

The hate America crowd over here that engineered it in hopes that this action would win their approval, will be wailing, pleading, and begging as they are used for bayonette practice.

Here’s some stats from the article.

When play stopped, the score was 64-64, even though 23 fouls had been called on the US team, compared to 11 for the Chinese team.

The Chinese are HORRIBLE losers, and there was no way they were going to lose to a US team.

You get 23 fouls called against you, most days you lose.

The team was apparently pulled from the PLA and trained for this game. We didn’t send the Mavericks, we sent the Hoyas.

Chinese knew without more thumbs on the scale they were going to be embarrassed.

As far as war with the Chinese, they have a lot of flaps yet to button down if they wish to project power on the basis of being militarily competitive with the US. In the future? Maybe, but it depends on whether they are going to allow their brightest people to break the bank.

Here in the US, they are. Unfortunately, for the moment, our best and brightest are still going into investment banking, not engineering. Not sure I blame them at this point, what with 9400 former Shuttle Program people on the street.

I know that the aircraft carrier is a little bit of a joke. We've had them since the beginning of WWII and STILL are developing procedures and tactics. My point is that they are NOT an island. That they have developed high number of missiles that have adequate shore to ship and land to air capability. We have them on technology at least we think we do. However if you sit and think about it. Why would China fight a war that we're good at. In other words, why would China fight a high tech war when it has millions of men and many multiples of weapons and weapon systems that we probably know very little about. Especially up near the North Korean border.

The control of the waters off the coast of Taiwan and in the area around Japan will be the next little "negotiations" that the democrat quislings will cede to the Chinese. Why fight for Taiwanese capitalists or Korean capitalists.

We'll be distracted by the Mideast and India-Afghan/Pakistan militarily and our economy in tatters like the EU.

So there we have it, a void of the big fist. The big fist that lets you fly to India, Singapore, Russia, Australia, Africa or anywhere on earth and know that you will not be kidnapped, murdered, robbed or businesses stolen.

What did we do when Venezuela stole US corporate assets in our own hemisphere and allowed IRAN!!! to form a faux alliance. Nothing. We looked weak, we continue to look weak and in spite of everybody pooh-poohing the old fashioned notion about projection of power and how NOW we are way to modern and sophisticated to get into a world wide conflagration, I would have some of you read or look at the archives about WWI and WWII.

We live in a violent world and only men in our society willing to fight and die for us can insure we aren't a nice little footnote about a federal republican form based on the English rule of law and the foundation from Athens, Sparta and Northern Italian forms of government that expanded and collapsed upon itself a couple of centuries after it started like the early Roman Empire.

We'll be a tourist attraction for the world with our quirky little parks, nice beaches, beautiful mountains, slutty women, and generally friendly demeanor. But like most third world countries we'll have corrupt cops, arbitrary law enforcement, "leaders" that can be bought and a self inflated ego about how important we once were.... like the French.

I guess the flash mobs are the new Vandals and we can at least enjoy professional football, NASCAR and mob rule.
