Bachmann in radio interview: Americans fear rise of "Soviet Union"

Fiji, I've already allowed that every politician who's living in the pressure cooker of a presidential run, is going to get a detail wrong here or there when they speak in public.

The point that's being made, is that Michelle Bachmann's gaffes are not just small details. She's getting things wrong that even ordinary people notice. She's also making them frequently.

This is troubling, as it compounds other alarming observations about her.

The two things that have alarmed me the most were,

1) Her interview with George Stephanopoulis, where she accepted Obama's alleged COLB (short form) as proof positive that he's eligible to be president. She didn't question the validity of the document, nor did she express any reservations about Obama's father being listed as "African". My mind was blown on several levels by her concession.

2) Her failure to order her campaign manager, Ed Rollins, apologize to Sarah Palin after he slandered her in public. Her silence on the matter was an admission of tacit agreement in the minds of many, and cast a large black mark on her character.

And now, the serious gaffes, coming one after the other. As I said, it all compounds.

“You’re wrong....Had she used the term Russia, her sentence would have made perfect sense....
It was a gaffee, plain and simple.”

I don’t know why, but you seem so determined to reduce Bachmann’s impromptu verbal answer to a radio talk show host’s question, which could be interpreted as an insightful observation, to a simple gaffe about whether the geographical region she is talking about should be called (the former) Soviet Union or as you insist - Russia. In fact, had she used the term Russia, it would have made even less sense because the old Soviet Union is now comprised of a dozen or so states called The Commonwealth of Independent Nations (CIS), not just Russia.

Bachmann is not my candidate either, but there is no need to feed the “she’s too gaffe-prone!” meme in this instance. She’s not going to make it onto the ticket anyway.

It’s from the 1980s movie WallStreet. The character ‘Gordon Gekko’ (played by Michael Douglas) uttered it as a code that he likes a certain stock and that he thinks it will go up. That movie is literally worshipped by most people in the financial/securities industry, and I think FReeper Big Oil may be from the industry (and big oil is close enough to be dropping quotes from Wall Street). What he is saying is he believes Ms Palin will announce her candidacy then. Right Big Oil?
