Huntsman on Twitter: ‘Call me crazy,’ I believe in evolution, warming
By Justin Sink - 08/18/11 02:59 PM ET

Republican presidential candidate and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman on Thursday took to Twitter to offer his support for the theory of evolution.

Huntsman made the tweet shortly after Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) offered comments that cast doubt on evolution, and his comments could be seen as a criticism of Perry.

“To be clear. I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy,” Huntsman, also a former ambassador to China, tweeted.

Perry also has raised questions about whether humans are contributing to global warming.

Huntsman’s tweet will raise questions about whether he has the conservative bona fides to win the Republican presidential nomination. He has carved out a niche in the primary fight as a centrist, but it is unclear whether GOP voters are looking for that in a candidate this year.

Perry mentioned evolution during a meet-and-greet Thursday morning in Portsmouth, N.H., while being questioned by a young boy who was prompted by his mother to ask the governor about evolution and science.

“You know it’s a theory that’s out there, and it’s got some gaps in it,” Perry said of evolution. “In Texas we teach both creationism and evolution in our public schools. Because I figure you’re smart enough to figure out which one is right.”

Perry has also questioned the validity of global-warming science while on the campaign trail.

“I do believe that the issue of global warming has been politicized,” he said Wednesday. “I think there are a substantial number of scientists who have manipulated data so that they will have dollars rolling into their — to their projects.

“I think we’re seeing — almost weekly or even daily — scientists who are coming forward and questioning the original idea that manmade global warming is what is causing the climate to change.”

Huntsman also garnered attention Thursday with the release of a profile in Vogue magazine that painted the candidate as “smooth” and “cosmopolitan.”

OK, I don’t “believe” in evolution, however, I find the evidence overwhelmingly convincing. Science is not religion. The same goes for global warming except I find the evidence in some cases to be either lacking, questionable or falsified. There is a religious aspect here too in AlGorism.

the niche he has carved out consists of him. I think his own wife and children are in someone else’s camp. I know mine are.

I know mine are.

Oh, no. Obamabots? We have retraining camps for them now. They could even possibly score a federal grant to cover the costs.

Someone refresh my memory. Has this yo-yo announced a candidacy yet? Haven't heard a word from or about him since he first reared his head weeks ago.

A profile in Vogue obviously dos not count.

One should never say “call me crazy” when running for office.

Heck, I won’t even say that in my everyday life. It’s like hanging a “hit me” sign on your back.

I didn’t spend ANY time looking at this guy, so I don’t know what he believes in other areas.
