Congressional Republicans are worried that Rick Perry's campaign has become a gaffe machine that may endanger the party' chances of unseating President Barack Obama, POLITICO reports.
As the Texas governor takes on the role of front-runner, his statements, like the one critical of Fed chairman Ben Bernanke, have GOP lawmakers concerned that his campaign will self-destruct or worse, win the nomination, but alienate the independent voters needed to win the general election.
You cant be calling Bernanke a traitor and you cant be questioning whether or not Barack Obama loves America, that type of thing, Rep. Peter King (R-NY), told POLITICO. Ive been with Perry a few times, and I can see how he could project, again, if its done the right way. But no, if he continues this, hell have a tough time.
Another congressmen suggested Perry needs to rethink his strategy so as not to alienate independent voters. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL), a member of the GOP leadership said of the Bernanke comments: Thats not something you want to lead with if youre trying to get independents to come your way. I would imagine that hes thinking through his strategy.

“The GOP should just ignore them and stick with its Conservative base instead of repeatedly trying to screw it over.”
The GOP nomenklatura hate and disregard us. They always have. Their mission is to use our strengths to maintain their positions, then deny us any access to policy initiatives. They are quite successful at it too.
An aggressive campaign is just the right approach to take down these Leftists and Obama. Obama has a frail ego and a tough campaign could make him crack.
You do if you are trying to appeal to tea party conservatives. Pull your head out of your rear!! Its not rocket science!
Yeah - pretty heavy there though. Thanks for asking.
There. I fixed it.
Ain’t that the truth......
That ought to tell you more.
But of the people available who have been president that could discuss the subject, which other one would you call? Carter? Clinton? His Dad that campaigned for his opponent in the last election?
If he is nominated, this independent will vote for him.
I don't mean to suggest this is a prevailing idea or even close to an issue for him.
He is a politician, so he is semi-slimy at best. But he is not a Washington insider or a proponent of a bigger federal government.
Thats your answer? Really? A little desperate to cover for Ricardo arent ya? IF they hated each other, as some on here claim, it would have been a cold day in hell before Perry would have called him, especially Bush, of whom people are still having a hard time getting the bad taste he left out of their mouths. Namely independents, the very ones they worry Perry cant appeal to.
These GOP elite better be worried about who will appeal to Republican voters.
HINT: It ain’t gonna be Huntsman or anyone vaguely similar.
I'm sure some of the Texas freepers can tell you... "u ain't seen nuttin yet!"
“she tells pollsters, she’s ‘independent’”
So do I.
Well said. The simple answer often nails it.

if a gaffe machine campaign was a problem then there is no way that the 57 states would have elected Obama/Biden in 2008.
I don’t think the claim that either hates the other is true at all. Both take very seriously their Christian values and neither would describe the other with hate.
But they certainly are not close. They had multiple disagreements and different approaches.

Can you name another establishment candidate, past or present, that openly discussed seceding from the Union?
Can you provide a link to where Perry said that ?
Thought not ....
