If Palin doesn’t run, I’m rooting for Perry.

I just want someone who will punch the punk in the mouth. And Perry seems to have no problem playing hardball.

Romney will be a McCain repeat. All personal background will be off limits. While he’s called a crazy mormon.

I’m guessing if they go after Perry’s background, he’ll have no problem mentioning Obama’s 20 years in Wright’s church. As would Palin.

He doesn't want to deport the illegals

Name one candidate that does.

The argument about minimum wage jobs is goofy. A job a job and in Illinois we've got black unemployment in double digits and in some demographics it reaches near 50%. We could use more minimum wage jobs, but the above items are worth noting.

A lot of those minimum-wage jobs, and the better jobs, too, in construction e.g., are being taken by illegals pouring over the border. Newsies looking into the rumor have demonstrated that there is significant resistance in e.g. the building trades to hiring American citizens in any number of occupations. They want illegals, period -- a very solid preference driven by tax considerations, lack of standing to beef to EEOC, OSHA, or DoL Wage and Hour about e.g. short pay (shorting men on overtime pay is rampant -- a standard business practice), and general abusability (usually euphemized as "flexibility" or some such).

That's why it's impossible to get a clear picture of what the Texas economy is really doing -- a lot of it is off the books, and a lot of the wage-earners aren't citizens. Some of them are people who just pop over the border every morning to go to work in El Paso, Brownsville, and Laredo. Texas statistics are totally distorted by these Jell-O-y numbers of illegals.

You people crack me up.

Choose now between dung and 'I dunno'. NOW!!!!!!BEFORE THE WORLD ENDS!!!!!!

Spare me that, I'm not so far from a cow pasture I don't know the smell.

The election is over a year away, and Perry does not have the nomination.

As if I'd have been on this site as long as I have and made the thousands of comments I have and would support obama over say, a roadkill rattlesnake.

We have cowboys up here, too, only ours wear the horse crap on the outside of their boots. It varies elsewhere, from what I have seen, and most who claim the title only own a hat. I have relatives and friends who have cowboyed for a living. It isn't work for soft hands.

I'm not even sure all the candidates have their hats in the ring, yet, and as I said, no amount of horse dung, polarized this or that nonsense is going to sway me in favor of anyone during the primaries. In fact, the more of that I see, the more I wonder if there aren't paid people out there pumping the next McCain.

I'm not sure that Perry or anyone else is going to deport anyone, and the current bunch won't even deport the criminals. Instead they're arming them. It really gives incentive to go back when you offer in-state tuition, something an Okie can't get, to illegals.

Interesting how shrill the 'supporters' are already when this guy just declared.

As far as voting for the person I most trust (to take America in the right direction for a change, of course) I guarantee that if I am breathing, I will. I'm not jumping in and waving anyone's flag over a year before the general, I'm shopping around. I'd like to see some of the current criminal administration indicted, tried, and convicted, too.

As far as mass deportation goes, turn up the heat here, stop arming the cartels there, and quit giving incentives for illegals to come here or stay. They'll go where the grass is greener and we'll save the cost of plane fare. In the meantime, as I have been saying since Clinton, close the border!

When it comes to business, a lot of these guys are “Tea Party” libertarians who oppose govt telling them they can’t hire competent people for the cheapest wage.

Converse, however, not true.

Most Tea Partiers are not businessmen looking to hire illegals so they can short their pay packets in thin months and pay them off the books, or using phony SSAN's.

Most Tea Partiers recognized the huge burden placed on States' budgets by large calls for social services and education from non-citizens who are not paying FICA in many cases, or whose slumlords are underreporting cash receipts to the State treasury.

Big population of illegals = big social budgets + cash economy + undercollection of lawful taxes = higher taxes for legal Tea Party citizens.

Texas in particular has been through the mill on this.

No, he added it to the Special Session after it didn’t pass in the Regular. It failed, again.

Actually, it rolled from the regular to the special session automatically because of the parliamentary error of the other side -- a Democratic senatrix from Fort Worth (deliberately) ran out the clock on the regular session, and because of recondite rules of the Lege, the bill came back in on the special session without Perry's specially adding it to the agenda. It came back in whether he wanted it or not, because of the way it died in the regular session.

That's what I read.

No credit for Perry, beaucoup embarrassment for Dewhurst and Straus because they had to kill it twice without seeming to -- like one of those Mafia murders where a guy keels over with a 14" carving knife in his chest in the middle of the street in broad daylight, while nine guys walk briskly away from him in all directions. That's what happened.

.....In the recent session of the Lege, the RiNO speaker of the Texas House, a man returned to the speakership by a party-line vote of the Democratic minority, ginned up a decennial redistricting plan that paired eight of the most conservative Republicans in the house against one another and guaranteed future Democratic gains, and Rick Perry did absolutely NOTHING about it.

What could he do? Are you implying that Rick Perry likes dems? How in the hell did Texas EVER get a GOP super majority under Rick Perry's leadership???? /DRIPPING SARCASM

If you read up on Rick Perry, one of the blocs opposing strong immigration control in Texas is the business community. Not big business, but small-medium business. This is the core constituency of the GOP......................

You don't know anything -- and coming from Maryland, I suggest you worry about your own backyard. You think all the people who voted Rick Perry into office REPEATEDLY like all the money that has to come from their pockets to support social programs that benefit illegal immigration. Come down and live here in a border state and then you can start telling everyone how it is.

Of course he doesn’t support groping! You have to remember that at least 3 of the country’s major airlines are based in Texas (American, Continental, and Southwest). The Fed threatened to shut these airlines down if the bill passed, so there was enormous pressure on the Texas Legislature by the airlines. It was the Legislature that vetoed it.

Part of the reason businesses tolerate illegal for cheap labor is the simple fact that between wage laws and other regulations, its so much more expensive to hire Americans.

BTTT. Perfectly stated.

Revolutions generally turn out poorly for liberty.

Only the American Revolutionaries were able to turn out something pretty good, compared to France, Russia, etc.

But even our founders set in motion a train wreck by 1861.

The unemployment rate in Texas, for instance, was 8.4 percent as of Friday — less than the federal unemployment rate but worse than that of 25 other states, and it could move up a tick or two after Sept. 1, when budget cuts passed during the most recent legislative session will reduce the public employee rolls.

This is the latest attack on the Texas economy, but as usual, it cherry-picks statistics. Last month, the Texas unemployment rate went up by 0.2% - but Texas added a net 30,000 new jobs the same month! How does that happen? It happens because Texas is getting more new workers moving into the state every month than new jobs created. The long-term unemployed are moving from blue state slums to Texas because THEY believe in Texas. So the fact that the unemployment rate went up in Texas is not a negative - it is just a reflection of the fact that so many people are moving there looking for work. Texas is still adding new jobs faster than almost any other state in the Union.

If I were running for office I'd promise that Mexico agree to DEPORTATION or ANNEXATION AND EVACUATION. Either they take all their people back, or we take their country and send them packing to some other country ~ maybe Brazil ~ just what they need ~ more Spanish speakers!

If this global warming thing works out OK I'd volunteer Canada as their new home.

Maryland has invited all the illegals to come and live off welfare in Montgomery county.

Texas has more than its fair share of politicians who imagine that's a great way to do it ~ right?

Currently the black voters in Maryland have their "instate tuition for illegals" law held up pending a referendum.

Is there some difference we are supposed to believe? Both states sound pretty much screwed up in the same way on this issue.

I lived in MD for quite a few years.

It’s a mess.

The ICC got built though. I helped elect a Republican governor to get it done after 50 years of leftists blocking progress and access to employment with good infrastructure. Sort of what’s going on in Texas with the so-call Trans-Texas Corridor.

Michelle Bachmann can not win the presidency
Come back to this post on Nov 8 2012 and we'll see

Sarah Palin - if she runs- will NOT do deportations.
Read what she says

She carefully alludes to registering workers who are here, not deporting them. Once she declares, and this is clarified over and over and over again by the MEdia, more heads will explode. The same people slamming Perry will slam Sarah. Maybe they will stay home in Nov 2012 and let the rest of us decide.

So all the huffing and puffing on FR about deporting illegals - is wasted oxygen. here IS no “right” republican, if you want mass deportation of illegals. NONE (with a credible chance of election)are behind that.

The idea of registering illegal workers who are here AND securing the border to stop the invasion of more AND cutting back on benefits and entitlements to illegals AND tackling Mexico's failures as a nation as a “comprehensive” immigration reform package, is not cynical nor does it cause me despair.

The choice is NOT between “Open borders” ***or*** deportation. The choice is who is going to lead the US into developing a system of foreign worker registration and a realistic path to US citizenship.

It is the realistic approach given the social makeup and sentiment of the majority of the USA, and a sane adult president will eventually lead us that way.

But when you find a perfect candidate who committs to mass deportations and who leads in the public opinion polls- let us know.

If Perry runs for President of Texas, I will defer to “Texans only” commenting on his policies.

Like it or not, Perry (or anyone else running for POTUS) wont be elected by people in border states, he will be elected by 50 million people who don’t live in border states.

And you don’t know anything about Maryland if you think we of all states don’t live with, and understand, the costs and impacts of illegal immigration! We’ll trade governors with Texas any day.

From Mexico.

Some employers don't want anyone who isn't an illegal from Mexico or Central America. Someone they can short in their pay packet for "flexibility" at the end of the week or the end of the month, someone who can't complain, someone they can ship home via INS/ICE if they complain. Someone they can just ship home in a box if they get killed on the job -- just call Santana Funeral Home, wash hands, done with that one.

Some "night cleaning workers" tried to form a union in Houston, back in about 1992 (they were averaging about $3.30/hour -- versus $10 in Pittsburgh and $12/hour in New York City) .... their employer called INS on them, rounded them all up and had them deported en masse.

I lived in MD and voted for Ehrlich so you could get your ICC.

Nice, isn’t it?

It will be nice when we get the TTC here in TX. I don’t think it will take 50 years like it did in Maryland.

I KNOW there are a lot of illegals in MD.

What the hell. Do you think we’re waving them across the border?

It’s states like MARYLAND and people who vote for LIBERALS in places like MARYLAND who make up the socialist goodies the illegals are trying to get to, that have them coming across 1250 miles of the international border the FEDS won’t secure.
