A spokesman has confirmed that former Governor George Pataki is strongly considering entering the crowded race for the Republican presidential nomination.
Sources say Pataki, who left office in 2007, could make an announcement as early as next week.
If he were to run, Pataki would face several major obstacles including launching an operation with little campaign cash and facing several opponents who have been meeting voters in Iowa and New Hampshire for months.

It is indeed sad.
But, it is a typical left tactic to slow down or prevent a resurgence of the right, at least over here in the UK and Europe. (yeah, I know, our right is your sociallist hell, but we try!)
The usual rule applies - follow the money, which many Freepers are better qualified to do than I. Who is funding his bid and why?
This is semi-satire, isn’t it?
One more Rino, what the heck?
Pataki can't spoil anything here except his kids' vacation plans for Spring Break.
Most of these hacks are lifetime politicians who can't earn an honest living outside of government. So they mount a "presidential campaign" in the hopes of garnering some minimal support, then drop out of the race at a later date in exchange for a commitment from one of the front-runners to give them an appointed post in a new administration.
I mean, does anyone really think Newt Gingrich has a chance in hell of getting more than 5% of the vote in any Republican primary? That dope couldn't get 25% of the GOP vote if he were running unopposed.
I think that Newt could do over 5%.
There really isn’t anything on Newt’s resume as bad as what’s on Perry’s.
And Newt did some good stuff.
Newt is positioning himself as the McCain of 12
I would certainly agree that most politicians could not survive a real world job that did not have at least some taxpayer funding involved. But that, even if true, does not logically exclude my speculation. Just wondering.
There’s a reason why Congressmen rarely make good presidential candidates. I’ll point to Newt Gingrich and Dick Gephardt as the two most recent manifestations of this.
Is this the Friday Silliness Thread? I could’ve sworn it was Sunday.
Splits the RINO vote & $$
is there a downside?
You're right, of course. What's funny is to hear all the Buffalo TV stations and radio stations dutifully reporting it as a big story. Just like they have the last 3 times he's said he was thinking about running.
Yeah, but not just any Rino - a New Yorker. We need at least one of those to make the circus complete.
Pataki, Rudy, Trump, Bloomberg* Ah, heck. Let them all run. This election is a joke already. Might as well come full circle.
*Bloomberg - Yeah, I know, he's no longer a "Republican" but he is about as conservative as the rest of the bunch (meaning NOT at all.)
NOOOOOO!!! He’ll take votes away from Romney!!!!
;)
Interesting, yes. I think Perry’s got plenty of doubters among the smart money, despite the polls, after his first week on the trail.
