On March 20th, 2009, Army Ranger 1st Lieutenant Michael Behenna was sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing Ali Mansur, a known Al Qaeda operative while serving in Iraq. Mansur was known to be a member of an Al Qaeda cell operating in the lieutenant’s area of operation and Army intelligence believed he organized an attack on Lt. Behenna’s platoon in April 2008 which killed two U.S. soldiers and injured two more. Army intelligence ordered the release of Mansur and Lt. Behenna was ordered to return the terrorist to his home.

During the return of Mansur, Lt. Behenna again questioned the Al Qaeda member for information about other members of the terrorist cell, and financial supporters. During this interrogation, Mansur attacked Lt. Behenna, who killed the terrorist in self-defense. The government subsequently prosecuted Lt. Behenna for premeditated murder.

Sounds a lot like civilian prosecutors and law enforcement.

No way would I want my kids serving in the military under a justice system that would do this to a marine.

Mansur needed killing.

Definitely not just. Bad for morale. Bad for recruitment. How can we expect anyone to serve knowing that they may be prosecuted for protecting themselves?

“How can we expect anyone to serve knowing that they may be prosecuted for protecting themselves?”

That’s the point.

So the government's ploy to cripple the US military continues. The military command better wake the eff up, get a clue and do something to save this country.

When I'm appointed Queen for a day, there will be several new parking lots in the middle-east.

If we're going to fight, then fight to win. If not, then our Military should come home, and let muzzies kill each other like they've been doing for thousands of years. Why are we there anyway. We have plenty of oil right here.

/off rant

He's probably screwed on appeal.

He stopped enroute to "further interrogate" the guy. I cannot imagine that this was authorized, even though my Army experience was as an NCO, not a LT.

Then, according to the story, he failed to report the killing... which probably looked like a cover up to the jury.

Also, I didn't see anything in the story (I'll read it again, to make sure) concerning any testimony from the interpreter, who, according to the LT's story, was a witness to the incident.

The terrorist had it coming, but individuals don't get to make the decision to execute them, which is what this (unfortunately) looks like. It seems the Army had it covered when they issued the capture/kill order three days after the killing (not knowing about it, because it had not been reported).

Not condemning the LT... just pointing out that it looks pretty bad for an appeal.

The next President should go on record that she will get our guys out of jail and fix the military with requests of resignation from all flag officers and righteously accept the ones of liberals or weaklings.

All lower ranked personnel involved in the legal attacks against our people should be put on a slow promotion track, eventually RIFed out, and assigned to remote, preferably cold weather posts.

Great rant. The purpose of war is to kill the enemy and blow up their property.

With this so-called CIC, I’m amazed that we still have magnificent men and women willing to serve and protect.

This breaks my heart.

It was Bush’s military, too. First charged in 2008. It all has to do with treating terrorists as if they were uniformed enemy soldiers instead of the terrorists they are.
