A new poll by Public Policy Polling puts Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the front of the GOP presidential field in Iowa and shows just how much Perry’s entrance into the race scrambled the contest for the Republican nomination.
The poll, released Tuesday (.pdf), shows that 21% of the poll respondents would support Perry in the Iowa caucuses next February, outpacing the two other Republican frontrunners Michele Bachmann and Mitt Romney. Romney’s campaign has been focusing on New Hampshire, a state that is considered a must win for his campaign.
If the contest were simplified to a three-way race between Bachmann, Romney and Perry – Perry would be supported by 34 percent of respondents as opposed to just 28% for Romney and 24% for Bachmann.

Perhaps, but he's cleaning up in nearly every poll despite the fact that he was nearly unknown a week ago. Most of these candidates have been campaigning hard for some time.
He's stomping Willard nearly everywhere save for New Hampshire.
Do we really want a nominee (Palin) who can’t even break 35% against Obummer?
He has done well so far, but there is every possibility he will move back to the pack as people discover his warts and weigh out the trade offs.
Odd that PPP shows Obama beating him by 6.
It IS getting exciting. The more he is seen and heard the lower go any weak negatives caused from being unknown, and from the crazed Left/Rinos/Rove-disciples/TrialLawyers/
WallStreet crowd who want Romney or no one. It’s increasingly fun with Rick, as he always delivers confidence and accomplishment that is unmatched, no matter how hard they try to apply the old governors office with what Rick has done in the governor’s office.

If Palin wanted in, and we aren’t sure she does, she may have missed a window. Perry may flame out. But with Christie and Ryan now out, it seems like he’s taking the front runner role here as the middle ground guy who is to the right of Romney but not so far right that he could not win the general election.
That’s one of the irritating things about his campaign. Its the viciousness of those trying to hide his past.
I think he’ll come back to the pack a little, even though I think most of the attacks against him have been ridiculous. Yes, he’s had some “WTF” moments over 25 years in politics and 10 as governor of a major state. Point me to ANY person who’s been in politics that long who hasn’t made some headscratching votes/positions.
Man, Fred Thompson is CRUSHING Giuliani now. I have no doubt Fred is gonna be our nominee in 2008. The polls show this guy was HUGE before he even announced! All you guys better get on the bandwagon now if you wanna stop Rudy.
