You’re Gonna Need MORE Than Gold…

By Simon Black

08/22/11 Everyday more and more people are waking up to the idea that they MUST own gold if they want to protect their assets from an out of control government. Owning gold is a great first step, but as history tells us, responsible people can and should do more before it’s too late…

History paints a bleak picture of the decline of Rome. Once warring consuls Antony, Lepidus, and Octavian were finished duking it out with each other in 31 BC, any semblance of the original Roman republic was gone forever.

Successive emperors of Rome included men like Tiberius, a paranoid deviant with a lust for executions. He spent the last decade of his reign completely detached from Rome, living in Capri.

Following Tiberius was Caligula, infamous for his moral depravity and insanity. According to Roman historians Suetonius and Cassius Dio, Tiberius would send his legions on pointless marches and turned his palace into a bordello of such repute that it inspired the 1979 porno film named for him.

Caligula was followed by Claudius, a stammering, slobbering, confused man as described by his contemporaries. Then there was Nero, who not only managed to burn down his city but was also the first emperor to debase the value of Rome’s currency.

You know the rest of the story – Romans watched their leadership and country get worse and worse.

All along the way, there were two types of people: the first group were folks that figured, “This has GOT to be the bottom, it can only get better from here.” Their patriotism was rewarded with reduced civil liberties, higher taxes, insane despots, and a polluted currency.

The other group consisted of people who looked at the warning signs and thought, “I have to get out of here.” They followed their instincts and moved on to other places where they could build their lives, survive, and prosper.

You’re reading this because you probably fall into the latter category. You’re aware of the problems. You can feel your civil liberties and economic opportunities slowly slipping away, all while the crop of national leadership grows more depraved with every election cycle.

You want to do something about it. You want to take steps to protect yourself, your family, and your livelihood. Perhaps you’ve already started by investing in precious metals. Gold is a great hedge against inflation, political turmoil, and default – things I call “sovereign risk.”

You see, some of the world’s largest governments are going broke, and these politicians will take any steps necessary in order to maintain the status quo: they will lie, they will steal, they will declare wars, they will bankrupt their people with hyperinflation… whatever it takes.

This is the greatest risk we face today. Buying gold is a great start, but there is MUCH more that you can do.

I’m an advocate of what I call planting ‘multiple flags.’ At its core, planting multiple flags means that you are diversifying your sovereign risk around the globe so that no single government has total control over your livelihood. Let me explain.

Let’s say you are from the US. If you live, work, bank, invest, register your business, own your property, store your gold, etc. within the US, and one little thing goes wrong, all of those assets and interests are at substantial risk. Any judge or bureaucrat could make them all disappear with a few mouse clicks.

It needn’t even be anything big. Maybe some three-letter agency suspects you of wrongdoing. Maybe your neighbor wants to sue you. Maybe they outlaw gold ownership (again). There are infinite possibilities, and infinite risks.

When you plant multiple flags, you diversify those assets around the globe. Store your gold in Switzerland. Open a bank account in Hong Kong. Register your company in Singapore. Establish an emergency ‘backup’ residency in Chile.

You can plant flags with just about any interest in your life – where you go to get high quality, cost effective medical care, where you set up your web servers for an online business, where you establish an international brokerage account, etc.

This approach is NOT just for the super rich. In fact, I’ve helped all kinds of people to plant their own flags, young and old, rich and poor.

Taking some simple steps to protect yourself will give you extraordinary peace of mind. You’ll know that, without doubt, you have some savings socked away that NOBODY can touch. You’ll know that you have a solid emergency backup plan. You’ll know that everything you’ve worked for won’t vanish in an instant.

they will declare wars

I expect war will be the answer. Middle east. Control of oil. The west will try to gain control of the oil supply in order to deal with China and emerging economies kicking our asses.

Probably the only logical way to see it.

When the government thugs come to your door for guns, gold, or as is certainly possible, your food, capitulation will simply mean that you will die a hungry, poor slave at a later date.

During the depression the government considered people that wanted to keep their gold to be “hoarders”.

I don’t believe in “benevolent despotism” like the liberal sheep in this country do.

Back when I was considering buying gold, the salesmen would always try to convince me to buy “unconfiscatable” collectable gold coins. My answer always was that I’m an old fart and they will not confiscate any gold I had in my lifetime ... nor that of the first one or two people that tried to do it.

A few weeks ago I posted an article that stated the four safest currencies were: (in no particular order)

* Swiss

* Singapore

* Norway

* Canada

I looked back at the article a couple days later and Norway had been changed to Chile.

A while back I was reading the history of the potato. Did you know, the potato was brought back to Europe from Peru by Spanish plunderers. And it caught on with regular folk. Know why?

Because back then, armies would show up and take whatever they "needed." They'd clean you out of your food, your crops, etc. Potatos grow underground, and were not widely known. Word spread through the grapevine, and people planted their own stashes of potatos so they'd have hidden food that the armies wouldn't find and steal.

Gold is pretty worthless without a security structure. They used to carve (or chisel) dubloons into quarters and pieces of eight for smaller purchases.

“If you have guns you can get gold”

You can’t eat it, though.

The population of Europe exploded with the introduction of the potato.
Note what happened in Ireland when it was removed...the Irish famine... about 1.5 million starved to death.

There are 2,000 varities of potatoes still in Peru. If the Irish had chosen two or three others to grow there is a good chance they would have had one that was immune to to the fungus that killed their potato crops.

If you’re starving, what is worth more—food or gold? Gold won’t save you from inflation in that scenario, because if you want to buy some of my, say, potatos, I’m going to charge you quite a bit of yellow metal. Hell, I might just turn you down and find someone trading something I actually need, like goods and services, or usable commodities. Shiny metal won’t cut it.

I think I read in a book that some used to dig out an area, or use wooden boxes and layer the potatoes with straw- and that is how root crops used to be stored in root cellars- my grandmother did that. If you have a root celler you can keep potatoes, onions, squash, carrots, etc. for a very long time.

They need to be below the frost line, cool and dry (at about 40-50 degrees F) and able to "breathe" without being frozen by ventilation. I don't know, yet, how much ventilation they need. See root cellars.

Invest in lead, brass, and cold steel, long term food, water treatment equipment, good sturdy boots clothes, tools, seed, learn to garden, sew, cook from scratch (a person that can make donuts and other sweets will be able to trade for a lot of stuff), trade goods like liquor, tobacco, sugar, coffee,.22 ammo.

What is coming isn’t going to be pretty.

I think that we are in for at least something like the collapse of Argentina ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yerKMQc7-w&feature=grec_index )but from the look of things it may even be on a global scale. Additionally I think we will see a much more violent version. As recent events show (Flash Mobs, UK riots, etc)we have a larger entitlement minded population and a the US has a much more violent and armed population than Argentina. I see many many small business wiped out by flash mob looting, and see rape, robbery and murder for murder sake. Many of these ‘yutes’ will think no more about killing you than most people think about stepping on a roach. That will be the test of many. Most preppers I know are Christian people and they will hesitate to do what they might have to do to stop the ‘yutes’. On the other hand the ‘yutes’ won’t think twice nor lose a minute of sleep, in fact they will smile and laugh about it.

Think of this quote which is one of my favorites:

“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8)” (1998)
Quark: Let me tell you something about Hew-mons, Nephew. They’re a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You don’t believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.

Now go look at some of the videos of the riots in the UK and of some of the flash mobs here in the US and look into there eyes.

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://www.tomeaker.com/kart/preparedness1i.pdf

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

Lastly this for the doubters and the scoffers.

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.

Underestimation can be fatal.”

Come to think of it, potatoes would probably be best stored without ventilation to the outside but with plenty of fairly well sealed air volume to begin with (like that in a root cellar). ...door only opened occasionally and closed quickly.
