The Antelope Valley is a vast patch of desert on the outskirts of Los Angeles County, and a segment of the few rugged individualists who live out there increasingly are finding themselves the targets of armed raids from local code enforcement agents, who’ve assembled into task forces called Nuisance Abatement Teams (NATs).

AH!.. California.. I thought all the decent people moved out of Califonia ages ago!!??..
Obviously I was right..
BFL8R since I live in the AV.
It's official in California, free men are a nuisance.
“Reason.tv collaborated with Melnicoff to talk with some of the NATs targets, such as retired veteran Joey Gallo, who ....”
Joey Gallo? wasn’t that “My Cousin Vinny’s” alias? Is this a real story? Hmmmm....
In this New America the citizen can not own private property. They can only make a huge security deposit to procure a long time lease that is mislabeled purchasing property. The conditions of that lease can be changed at any time with out notice by the true owners of that property and it can be taken from the citizen without return of the deposit.
According to John Locke, Adam Smith and the founders of the Old America without private property there can be no freedom nor liberty.
That thing is totally illegal and there is no way it could get a building permit!!!
They’re totally right to make him tear it down!

The vid was interesting. At the public comment session you could ask questions but the public officials didn’t have to respond. Seems really one sided and completely worthless. Why would the NATs go armed to the teeth and w/o search warrants to look for code violations?? Guess someones are intending to make $$$ off the land these folks are run off of, at least thats how the article plays it. Tell me again why anyone would want to live in KA?
No one ever owns their own land, they rent it fromt he government.

As if that weren’t bad enough, every year several different governments levy rent on that property, in amounts that they determine and which is not open to debate, and if the “owner” doesn’t pay, men with guns come and throw him off the property.
Sounds like your mouse has a flat.
California was wonderful- 20 years ago.
“Joey Gallo? wasnt that My Cousin Vinnys alias? “
That’s Callo! With a “C.”
There is just something suspicious about people who want to go off and
live in small towns, farms or rural country when they could be living like
maze rats in democrat-run urban slave camps. /s
Sounds like some government officials are asking for some “Unintended Consequences”...
old book, but the lesson should be taken to heart by tyrants such as these.
The dry cleaner guy comes to mind.
“Why would the NATs go armed to the teeth and w/o search warrants to look for code violations?”
Why does the Department of Education have a SWAT team?
Thats Callo! With a C.
That’s right. I remember now, Joey Gallo died last week. It was in all the papers.
Thanks for clearing that up!
But he has a wind turbine it is green you see.....
If he were in the heart of L.A., or some other incorporated city, I would agree. If he’s in the middle of the Antelope Valley and wants to do that, I could care less.
That home has been featured on some television shows heralding exotic homes. It’s not as terrible a project as the photo and the article seem to infer it is.
To me it typified the lone wolf ethic, and I actually don’t like seeing that squashed.
Sounds like what we need are Nuisance Abatement Team Abatement Teams (aka the Militia the Constitution refers to).
“Theyre totally right to make him tear it down!”
Stateist!
Looks like Garrison Keillor on the right!
What matters your illusions of private property when you’re owned body mind and soul by a leftist despotic State that uses constitutionally protected freedoms for buttwipe. I can’t believe people are supporting candidates who are accomodators to these people. Throw down the dictator to elect a kapo, what an improvement.
“Joey Gallo? No, he’s dead. Callow; Joey Callow”
Follow the money.
Desert is now prime property for Solar energy plants.
“Looks like Garrison Keillor on the right!”
I think its supposed to be Big Sis.
And just the heck do you think you are to sit in judgement of someone else? Is this person harming you somehow? Damned nanny-state wannabe.
You might want to look at where this website and the people who run it are located before you go painting with that broad brush.
“Is this person harming you somehow?”
Absolutely, that crap doesn’t comply with the building codes!
Same way enemies win wars.
Everybody's had to fight to be free--- You see you don't have to live like a refugee

You are aware that property taxes and forfeiture penalties go back to the Founding Fathers, right? It's not exactly "new."
You my friend should fit in right nicely with the gestapo types that wanting to take over this once great nation. Please Lord, return sooner than later and save us from these poor fools. Amen.
Am I missing a /sarcasm tag in here somewhere ?
Hell no, that piece of crap should be torn down!
You suggest what this bloated, corrupt, all controlling, all consuming government today, any way resembles what it did during the time this country was founded?
Your spin is speeding up the rotation of the planet. Please stop before we all fly off.
I however question whether my/our forefathers envisioned a government that would assess confiscatory levels of tax rates to reward their friends and co-horts in crime with the lucrative seized property from those that are getting robbed at the end of a government gun. Maybe you did but I doubt the forefathers ever fathomed 'tax enforcers' in war gear doing the dirty work of the overbearing overlords that are taking over.
Did you think you were posting on DU?
I suggest to you that this should be a nation where men are free to do anything they damn well please so long as it doesn’t infringe on anyone else’s rights. That structure may or may not be sound— you don’t know / I don’t know. But I do know it’s none of my damn business, until and unless I either decide to enter it or buy it. Are you planning on doing either of those things? Didn’t think so.
The absolute MAXIMUM a government should be doing in matters such as these is possibly requiring homes not adhering to established building codes to display a warning sign to that effect for visitors and of course disclosure of such upon sale or rental and let the buyer or visitor assess their own level of risk tolerance.
Damn straight - but torn down???
With the material resources the Government has in its arsenal, surely an assault with flame-throwers and anti-tank missiles, or hell, why not - tanks, would be a far more serious demonstration to the redneck rabble that buiding ordinances are meant to be respected!
I don’t know where you live but keep your crap construction out of California!
“It’s not exactly “new.”
I didn’t say it was. I said something like, “as if that weren’t bad enough...”
I personally disagree with the Founding Fathers on that issue. We need a constitutional amendment guaranteeing that no private or governmental body can confiscate property, once duly deeded, for the nonpayment of taxes.
