EWING, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is not amused to see TV reports showing people squeezing in a little more beach time before evacuating because of Hurricane Irene.
He had strong words for them at a news conference on Friday, saying: "Get the hell off the beach in Asbury Park."

It’s a little early for that, the hurricane hasn’t even made landfall in NC.
However, it will become good advice come Sunday. There’s always a handful of idiots looking to surf in a hurricane and I suspect New Jersey, if they are anything like their Jersey Shore brethren, has more than a handful of idiots!
What a circus this will be. With the left in power just awful. Are they already giving out checks for the damage? What about Joplin MO? Notice ..crickets...

They're already moving the nursing home patients in Brooklyn (takes time to move them all) and there is mandatory evacuation for all residents of the Rockaways. And they need to start soon because all mass transit in the city will shut down at noon tomorrow.

Issue a warning and an advisory. Make sure everyone gets the word.

In Florida, we don’t do that. If you stay after an evac order, you are on your own. No 911, no FD, no EMT. You were warned........
They’ll tell you straight up, if you stay behind, write your social security number on your arm, so we can identify your corpse.

Same here in NC... they just told us, after 39 mph winds, no emergency vehicle are going out until after the storm. I’m not on the beach but in eastern NC. Only a voluntary evac in my area, and yes, I’m staying.
Typical, total overreaction. I live in NYC, swam, and went kayaking, today. I’ve never seen the water so calm. Tomorrow will surely be a different story, but let the people enjoy what’s left of their shortened vacations.
If he wants people off of the beach he should just walk down the shore in a thong.

I was in Belmar, NJ last December 26/27 for what was essentially a winter hurricane. The eye hung offshore for hours dumping thirty inches of snow which became unplowable as it drifted. We we house bound for days. Some didn’t get out of their driveway for ten days.
Now this.
