Why did you pull this thread?
(Excerpt) Read more at finance.yahoo.com ...
errr, you might not want to test the patience of the mods. >.>
Well I do join in Freepathons, so I get to ask.
Although the Mod Squad would almost never tell you why they make the capricious decisions they do, (It violates the rules of effective tyranny for the populace to have a predictable environment) in this case you tried to post a Bloomberg article.
Bloomberg will sue FR for copyright violation if they don’t pull it.
Bloomberg is a a no no source.
Heh heh heh ... so many jokes, so little time...
Your article originated at Bloomberg.
If Bloomberg uses a Yahoo server than who is who?
Looks like you answered your own question. Bloomberg is highly protective of their content and charge out of the a** to distribute it so they sick lawyers on any site that tries to distribute it for free.
Lawyers make billions on such ambiguities...
Yahoo pays syndication rights to Bloomberg articles. I don't know how much Yahoo pays, but for a local newspaper's website, it runs in the high five figures monthly.
I posted an excerpt and a link just how is that a Copyright violation again?
It matters for naught. You've just been put on double-secret probation.
mods aren’t the problem here
it’s the sissies who hang on the mods pants legs or under their skirts that are the issue....the zot nazis clamoring for their next bolt
Bloomberg doesn’t even allow excerpts on FR. They’re FReepin’ Eyeholes.
Free Republic should CHARGE Bloomberg for providing free advertising and the link. One paragraph is not reproduction.
They own the content, it is their creation and thus, they can choose not to give it away for free. I would suggest grabbing a copy of Atlas Shrugged and give it a good read over the weekend.
Bloomberg owns the content, we may not like their restrictions but it is their creation and their property and the rights of property and ownership of one’s creation trumps convenience in posting more than a link only.
Is this your picture?
Because it crossed the road?
Hey this thread is still there! (or here as the case may be)
(sorry, just having fun - yeah I’ve had a few threads yanked, too)
;<)
Oh I see where your problem is...
You are under the mistaken impression that this is about "law".
This is about politics and money. Bloomberg will drag FR into court. Legally you may have done it right but that matters not. They will make FR pony up legal fees and court time. Same as the RIAA drug Mom's and Dad's into court and run up huge legal fees. Its a bullying tactic.
Being someone who pays the bills counts for naught.
The reason the last FReepathon took so long is because so many prior contributors got zotted over the years and therefore no longer contribute.
No matter how much you contribute, you still gotta follow the rulez...
Posting a link is NOT giving away content for free.
Hey Mod and Central_VA, how about this compromise. If Bloomberg sues AGAIN, Central_VA gives you the right to give Bloomberg’s lawyers all his personal information so they can sue him instead of FR and he can deal with the tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees to fight it.
You would agree to that wouldn’t you VA? :->
(and before you say, it can’t happen to you, Google Righthaven and see how many small, not for profit bloggers, have their asses handed to them in court over stuff like this.)
Umm, as you say.
This is the first time I saw a non-thread hijacked by its own the author over whether or not it was OK to publish non-publishable material.
So, is this a non-hijack?
Cool.
That’s for the owner of said content to decide. You don’t go to a store and decide what to pay for someone else’s product.
Sorry, but one of the few good things left about our society is, at least for now, we have the right to own our property and creation.
You wanna violate my copyright? You really wanna, Huh Punk?
It’s so time consuming and tedious to post a new thread that when it gets pulled there is definitely a pissed off factor.
Still would have been nice to know why without starting another thread to find out. Just say’in. ;-)
yes but... someone in the home office is hacking profile pages and changing entries -- thereby impersonating legitimate FReepers, and gawd only knows what else.
The place has been infected. I see somebody going by the handle of "Jim Robinson" is posting at a rate about 10 times his historical, ten year average.
Well, what do you expect? A popup window that tells you a source is banned???
I understand. Yeah, Yahoo or one of the other news services can trip you up when it’s not real easy to see the original.
Hey I got booted off a different site for calling Barry as “zero”. LOL
But Bloomberg and a few others haven’t figured out they just get free advertising so we gotta try and watch out for JimRob so they don’t try something.
It’s nothing personal from the Admin - just business.
AP or somebody might cover the topic elsewhere.
;)
Just sayin'.
It is a non-hijack of a non-thread. Kind of like arguing with yourself in the car and then realizing that seven lanes of traffic are staring at you.
If I rent a billboard on I-95 and print the first paragraph of a bloomberg article and say buy bloomberg magazine or go online and read the whole article. Could they sue me for that? I will follow FR the rules but the law is an ass and anyone who thinks otherwise is one too. When the rules don’t follow common sense then there will be times when “mistakes” are made.
See #3, ;-)
Yes they could. Unless you have their permission to use their content, you don’t have free reign to it. You may think you are in the right, but you are going to spend a boat load of money defending it.
I’ve seen this place sued too many times to take a risk on someone trying to make a point.

Just kidding, just kidding! (Love 'ya, mods! You're doing a fantastic, though thankless job.)
Actually, CV, we can't post Bloomberg stuff here, one of many off limits sources.
Recursive thread bump.
Would love to but it seems to have been removed! Go figure. LOL!
That’s my question as there is anecdotal evidence of same.
Whatever.
That and a dollar will buy you the same thing it does me.....A cuppa coffee. Maybe not at Starbucks, dunno, I've never been in one.
If excerpts aren't allowed, I won't even post content from them. If it's something that important, I'll post a summary of the events in my own words and bypass the story. (my own work)
I posted an excerpt and a link just how is that a Copyright violation again?
Copyright......... It matters not as they have asked not to publish anything. Is that not their right?
These publishers have asked us not to allow any material at all to be posted to FR:
altoonaherald.com
altpressonline.com
americanpolitics.com
antiwar.com
bloomberg.com
We're all screwed just the same.
