Surgeon General Regina Benjamin says a hairdo may deter exercise. Is she right?

Dr. Regina Benjamin, surgeon general of the United States, is warning American women of an impediment to a healthy, active life: their hairstyles.

Benjamin said that the expensive products and time-consuming procedures that some women, especially African American women, invest in to straighten and control their tight curls may deter them from working out. After all, just a little moisture could undo the hairdo that was the result of a lot of time and money.

(SNIP)

The story pointed out some interesting research from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center that found about a third of black women surveyed said they exercised less because they were worried about their hair.

There are many women out there with all types of hair who don't want to "mess their hairdo" by sweating from exercise. That does not mean we need tax dollars spent on research, trauma counseling, or hair vouchers so that they will try to exercise and lose weight. Enough already.

What they really want is someone to throw money out of a slow moving truck and “then” they might make an effort to give chase.

Anyone without the ‘elite’ hairdo should be subject to further examination. Yeah. Right.

Man, if I was a black woman, I’d shave that crap off a half inch from my head. I’d have a natural fro and any man who didn’t like it could step along down the line. And I’d wear big hoop earrings and dark lipstick and I would have an ATT-TI-TUDE that I, as a white woman, frankly cannot pull off. I’m just sayin’.

Loose the Attitude part, and many men would love a black woman like that.

It sounds to me as if the Surgeon General is just like the AG and the Oh. Not the Surgeon General of the people of the U.S., but the SG of “my people,” just like the AG and the Oh are the AG and Prez of “my people.”

This situation is totally crap and needs to be rectified in 11/12!

Incredible, stunning and massively important notions and ruminations from the intellectual core of the Obama Administration. Everyone should be taking notes.

Is it just me, or is there something wrong with a person of her size and weight telling others how to manage theirs?

Like a drop dead beautiful, hard body, highly energetic, upbeat, sexy hairdo, strong multi tasking woman such as Palin. Yep, her hairdo has really impacted her health.

Let’s see.... Obama’s energy plan consists of checking the air pressure in our tires.

Obama’s surgeon general addresses the health of the nation, by essentially suggesting that women should wear Butch Dyke haircuts..... or perhaps shave their heads. LOL

Great leadership we have.....

Personally, I think cosmetics and hair products are a total waste and should be made illegal. After all, money spent so foolishly can better be spent by the government. Any unemployment caused by this ban is incidental to the greater good. Plus, anything else that irritates me should be illegal.
