Governor Deval Patrick said yesterday that he shared the community’s outrage over the death of a 23-year-old Milford man struck last week by an alleged drunk driver who was also an illegal immigrant. But the governor urged people not to blame the death on illegal immigration.Matthew Denice was on his motorcycle last Saturday when he was hit in Milford and dragged for a quarter-mile. Nicolas Guaman, a 34-year-old immigrant from Ecuador, has pleaded not guilty to charges that include vehicular homicide while under the influence.

“It’s a terrible, terrible tragedy,’’ Patrick said at the end of a news conference about preparations for Hurricane Irene. But, he added, “Illegal immigration didn’t kill this person. A drunk driver killed this person, and we have laws about that. And I expect the book to be thrown at this person.’’

Some time ago.” Perhaps last month. That’s when Patrick was in Milford for a town-hall-style forum. Angry locals confronted him with signs, like “When will you secure OUR community?” They begged him then to end this ridiculous policy, told him of residents killed by illegal immigrants in the recent past.

What did Patrick tell them?

“We don’t need Secure Communities.” All it does is “give the impression that we are doing something. sums it all up very well

I disagree. If the person wasn’t in this country ILLEGALLY, then the accident wouldn’t have occurred. Period. We have some friends who lost their Dad in a similar way (illegal, drunk driving accident). The most difficult part of the tragedy for the family to accept was that someone who shouldn’t have been here... took their Father’s life. They felt like our government has allowed this to occur by not securing the borders AND throwing out anyone illegal. Can’t blame them.

I hope people will consider how different America would be if we weren’t overrun with illegals.

If there are 30 million illegals in this country, that’s enough to populate more than 50 congressional districts. They may not all vote but they are changing congressional maps simply by being here and being counted in the census.

Without those illegals, its entirely possible that there would be many less democrat seats to deal with.

Sneaking suspicion here..FWIW....many here will recall the 1988 election..when Willie Horton became a BIG issue ( although Dems conveniently forget that it was Gore who first raised it against Dukakis) and later on, during the debate, when Dukakis was asked, if his wife Kitty was raped and murdered, would he want the death penalty for her killer?

I think that this incident..and the whole question of illegals and crime, and how Mass handles, or more accurately, doesn't handle it....will become a BIG, if not defining issue in the Senate race...and Brfown will hang it aroudn Warren's neck like a 500 lb lead weight..
