WALLOWA, Ore. - Police plucked $25 million worth of marijuana plants from an illegal plantation on privately owned forest land in northeastern Oregon on Wednesday.

With the upcoming bow hunting season, law enforcement officals asked hunters to keep their eyes open for illegal pot grows - and to be careful when encountering suspicious people in the woods.

Two men, ages 50 and 25, were arrested and jailed after police raided the grow site.

The investigation started a week ago when a helicopter spotted the marijuana plants from the air.

Here it is...

Law enforcement officials have not confirmed where the two men are from.

Wow! How right are you! Terrible! A sentence in a major news outlet that is actually ending with a preposition! My English teacher would be turning over in her grave!!

“Law enforcement officials have not confirmed where the two men are from”

Let’s just get it over with. Give them a drivers license and voter ID and let them be on their way. King Hussein says to make it so.

A sentence in a major news outlet that is actually ending with a preposition

It may violate that old chestnut of a rule, but it doesn't seem to offend; and it's hard to think of a superior construction. How would you write it?

I think the poster was hinting at an illegal alien angle, not the grammar.

Hmm How about... "LE officials have not been able to confirm the nationality of the two men. "

I think the poster was hinting at an illegal alien angle, not the grammar.

Ya think? So I guess it's OK. Just like 2+2=5;well, not really, but it's easier and we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.....

I ain't the "grammar police" or whatever, but these things ARE noticed.

25 million?

I seriesly doubt that claim.

LEOs always claim such absurd numbers in seizures.

It was worse in my day in the 70s and 80s...the exaggerating.

that’s 6 thousand pounds even at 300/oz more or less which is what pound dealers and small growers sell decent ounces for in middle TN..one or two ounces at a time...technically “adult retail”

6000 pounds of dressed buds would come from around 12,000 to 20,000 pounds of timber and plate which could mean 5-10,000 plants all in last quarter maturity...a hair early for that..even in the PNW...here pickings are Octber

and one other little note...that much outdoor ganja staying purely “girl pot” out in the open ...probability of that miracle?

like David Gilmour says when asked if he will play with Roger Waters again?....”AIN’T HAPPENING”

hence ..those high dollars I used are fantasy...more likely to get a lot of seeded pot...and a lower price...much lower

exactly. It is 99.95 % likely I could guess where these men are from and it ain’t from the fifty states. (or 57 as Obama would say—unless of course he counted Mexico as one of our states!! Which could be possible.)

Ah ha! Knew it. They’re illegals. There’s so many marijuana farms in Oregon and Washington run by illegals that it’s become a major business for the area. The only thing I’m surprised about is this was on private land because many are in state and national forests.

These big Mexican grows are manned full time so they do manage some frontier cultivation. I would advise that if you run into one of these grows to backtrack out the way you came. These men are armed and are known to use boobytraps. The water sources near these grows will likely be contaminated due to chemical use and poor sanitation.

Good analysis. If these politicians had some sense instead of moneyed interests (cop and prison guard unions) whispering in their ear to keep it illegal, they'd realize that reducing the supply of marijuana only accomplishes one thing, and that one thing is driving up the price. This just increases gang violence because the crops are now worth more. In reality, however, they don't make a dent in the supply. Plenty of people grow their own and give/sell it to friends. That's common up here near Canada, and so there's no Mexican connection to it at all. The cartels will always find a way to get their product through, however. They've realized that since the Mexican army is so active in Mexico and CBP is so active at the border, that the best way to get the product to their American dealers is to grow it here in this country. That's why you see armed illegals camping out in both national and privately owned forests. If a dad is walking with his little Bly and stumbles on one of these grow operations, tragedies are bound to happen.

What will the government say if it does? Well, they'll blame the murderous illegals, which makes sense, but they should also blame themselves, because the best ally of the Mexican drug cartels is the United States government. If it was not for the government protecting their profits by keeping the drug illegal, the cartels would not be able to make any money from pot. If it was legal, people could grow their own and give to friends, or sell it for far, far lower prices than we see today. Marijuana would no longer be 300/oz. It would be less than 100/oz, and if mass produced, probably under 60 an ounce.

This is where we are headed. According to polls, 70% of my generation (those under 30) favor legalizing it. Prop 19 could very well pass in California next year, and if it does, California can dare the Feds to enforce their marijuana laws in the state. They don't have anywhere near the number of DEA agents required to do it. Eventually, my generation will dominate the Congress, and we will get the federal laws repealed as well.

Why doesn't Wyoming void the Federal Income Tax for state residents following this example? They can dare the Feds to enforce their tax laws in Wyoming. They don't have near the number of Treasury agents needed to do so.

I was hoping for a bit more from the Millenial Generation than legal pot. Oh well...

That's a little bit different. The federal income tax is constitutional, because an amendment was passed to create it, and they'll ruin your life if you don't pay taxes. High risk, low reward.

We have to start small. One step is showing how weak and effective the federal government really is when challenged.

If the Tenth Amendment ever gets back in vogue in this country (and I hope it does), then we can work on that. Unfortunately, members of my generation are far more liberal than the rest of the country. Their interests align with mine when it comes to ending the drug war, so I support their efforts in that regard, because it will be good for the country as a whole. I oppose them when they sign on to the Messiah's agenda, however. Still, a broken clock is right twice a day, and they're right about the drug war.
