Mayor Bloomberg urges residents in evacuation zones to flee (We're all gonna die...)
NY Daily New ^ | 8/27/11 | KATHLEEN LUCADAMO AND JONATHAN LEMIRE

As Hurricane Irene steamrolled up the East Coast Saturday morning, weakening slightly in intensity but still packing a dangerous punch, Mayor Bloomberg urged those living in low-lying areas to flee - before it is too late.

The ferocious storm was downgraded to a Category 1 after it slammed into North Carolina, but its landfall in New York is still expected to produce winds of 75 mph and a powerful storm surge that could flood much of the city's coast.

"It is going to be a very serious thing," Mayor Bloomberg said at a press conference on Coney Island, one of the neighborhoods where a mandatory evacuation order is in place. "You have to leave right now."

"Staying behind is dangerous," Bloomberg said. "Staying behind is dangerous - it is against the law."

I am wondering in my no coffee mind. Could all this hype of this being a killer storm even though if you dig deeper in to NOAA info, is rather weak, be a way for the media to hype up an Obama Katrina moment, but in this case, they’ll say, ‘see, under Obama’s watch, all remained calm during a hurricane..yadda, yadda’?

I need more coffee.

staying so your place doesnt get looted is not stupid. the huricane is harmless. the real threat is losing electricity and flooding.

The storm doesn’t hit the NYC area for at least another 12 hours and by then, it will be a Tropical Storm, not even a hurricane.

The panic being generated here in NYC by Bloomberg, The Weather Channel, Shepard Smith and their fellow drama merchants is a disgrace.

My theory is the MSM is using this as a situation to showcase the village idiots calmness and coolness under pressure. Already yesterday he was showing his stupid mug on TV. The guy did not give a crap when we have droughts in the Midwest and flooding on our major rivers. Those states don't matter to this pantload.

It's New York City. You shouldn't need the hurricane to get you to flee. You all should have fled years ago.

It’s all so silly. Except for the part that these governors and mayors have hair triggers to declare emergencies so they can get federal cash flowing even for ordinary weather events these days. That part is tragic.

Bloomberg’s shutting down public transit here today is retarded beyond all belief.

It’s not a killer storm like a Katrina but it’s hitting some of the most densely populated areas of the country.NYC and its burbs represent a lot of populated lowland and since the last storm of this magnitude was 25 years ago most of us have little experience in how to prepareThat’s why the pols are so shrill, except for Bloomie, that’s how he is normally. He’s ticked beccause his blundering during the blizzard means he has to stay for this one and not jet off to Bermuda.

This is a social experiment being performed by the government to see how many people immediately follow government orders.

Lord Bloomberg is shipping the forced evacuees into NYC public schools where they will housed, learn ebonics and taught how to put a condom on a cucumber.

The street I grew up on in southeastern Queens was below sea level. It was kept dry by pumping the storm sewers into the ocean. I remember after Hurricane Donna in 1960, our street and basement were flooded, people were rowing boats and canoeing in the street in front of our house. I remember a couple of local teenagers paddling a downed telephone pole. Most people took it good-naturedly, but times were different.

The very least that shutting down public transit here today could have waited till midnight. I think Bloomberg needs more salt in his diet - something is truly lacking in his thought process - although that could be just the liberalism disease.

My Mayor is a pompous ass. He will use any excuse to control people. If mass transit is not running on Monday morning Bloomberg should be sued for gross negligence.
