Con Ed warns of power cutoff as Irene bears down on city (Bloomberg's follies...)

Ready or not here she comes.

New Yorkers are scrambling for last minute provisions today as Hurricane Irene draws closer to the city. The forceful storm — a Category 1 with ferocious 85 mph winds — is expected to wallop the city by 4 a.m. tomorrow.

-snip-

"How can I get out of Coney Island?" said Abe Feinstein, 82, from an apartment with view of the boardwalk. "What am I going to do? Run with this walker?"

Bloomberg - you are one freak'n idiot - with all your money you can't buy common sense.

Sure he can. He just refuses to use it.

"Cook? Why cook? That's what phone's are for." So said a acquaintance of mine from NYC. She never kept food in her apartment, nor cooked, and she wasn't the only one. If Irene hits the place as a tropical storm, it won't be the end of NYC, but the flooding and power outages lasting for 2-3 days will cause many to suffer greatly.

Nah. It would supersede his thought process.

What a sad state. I grew up in the Bronx during the 1950s when we had several hurricanes come through the NYC area. Life continued on. The public transit system continued to function for the most part with buses and subways running except in low lying flooded areas.

Now, we live in a day and age when politicians treat every little challenge to life as a major catastrophe. Bloomberg is a total incompetent nanny state hack politician. Plus, the MSM loves this stuff. All they do is hype it for their own left wing purposes.

He’d have to have the law changed again to allow a 4th term. He’s actually said he want to change it back to 2 (guess he thinks only he is worthy of 3 terms, dirtbag)

I’d like to see Rudy run for Mayor again rather than Governor. No one else half decent would have a chance at that office while someone else could maybe beat Cuomo Jr.

But Rudy would rather play around with his POTUS ambitions. If he wanted to be Governor 2010 should have been it.

Abe has no idea how much danger he is in. That boardwalk may be gone tomorrow, or in his apartment. He may find a boat, car, or 15 feet of water in his apartment. Moving even a few blocks inland for shelter could be the difference between living & ......

I looked at the google map of this area last night. Looks like flat beaches & houses/apts. w/i 100 feet of the beach. Nice looking neighborhoods. A storm surge could devastate those neighborhoods. The boardwalk wont even slow the rushing water.

If he survives the surge, the power will be out for days & the water unsafe to drink. His problems have only begun when the storm has passed.

Somebody locally needs to help this man & people like him. That was Ray Nagin’s responsibility before Katrina. Remember those parking lots full of flooded buses? Bloomy & Co. are gonna have a big problem after the storm if the search crews find a bunch of bodies.

I really wonder how our forefathers survived these storms ....

Here's an anecdote: when the great painter Renoir was an old man his hands were severely cripped by arthritis. Seeing his hands, a reporter wonderingly inquired, "With such hands, how do you paint?" Responded Renoir, "With my prick."

“Bloomberg is insane. He’s shut down the subway and buses (today!).”

2 things:

Buses & subways must be secured prior to the storm. That doesn't happen in an instant. It takes time.

Transit workers must have time to make preparations at home or to evacuate.

You can bet your last dollar that Con Edison won't be deliberately shutting off power to the pompous Bloomterd, neither at his his personal residences nor at City Hall.

Here in NJ, we heard that Rowan University's dorm rooms are now filled with African-Americans who swarmed the place after it was announced on the radio that classes had been postponed, and that all dorms were open as shelters. Hoards of people have showed up, parked themselves into the dorms, and are demanding "free" stuff, shouting for "free" food, "free" assistance, etc.

I wonder if Rowan has just inherited a bunch of squatters and the next thing we'll hear is the attempted "inhuman eviction" going on there. I also don't envy the cleanup crew and wonder how much stuff will be stolen or trashed.

That doesn't happen in an instant. It takes time.

If it takes more than a few hours to park a bunch of buses then someone is incompetent.
