Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says it’s time for the federal government to quit picking winners and losers, and that includes federal efforts to boost the ethanol industry.
Perry, the governor of oil-rich Texas, opposes the federal “renewable fuels standard” which requires a certain amount of corn-based ethanol be produced in the U.S. each year.
“I’d like to see a level playing field for all of the energy producers in this country,” Perry told reporters in Iowa tonight.
Iowa corn farmers support the federal rule which requires an increasing volume of ethanol be produced through 2015. Perry told reporters tonight that he supports “all of the sources of energy” that are out there, including so-called biofuels like ethanol, but he’s against the federal government requiring a certain amount of ethanol be produced each year.
“We don’t need to have government picking winners and losers in this business,” Perry said during a news conference in Des Moines. “Let the folks get out there with the regulations off their back. I have a good idea that the farmers in Iowa can compete with anybody in the world.”
Perry’s view on ethanol is echoed by many “Tea Party” activists who have complained about tax breaks for ethanol and other industries and who have harshly criticized federal bail-outs for Wall Street and American automakers. Ethanol producers say they’re willing to give up their federal subsidies if federal tax advantages for the oil industry are abolished, too.
If ethanol was such a great fuel, let the market decide its value.
Too many Iowa farmers bought into this subsidy drug and are now hooked.
Look guys, taking in government money to produce something people don’t want to pay for is just stealing from your neighbors. Just like creeping into their house at night and lifting bucks out of that wallet on the dresser.
Only difference is you have the force of government behind your stealing.
You’re still creeping.

Perry's out there trying to talk them off the ledge -- back "inside" -- from socialist control to free-market competition.
Don't be surprised if the attorney general jumps in after Perry slammed the rule for threatening Texas jobs and families and putting reliable, affordable electricity at risk. Late last week, 31 members of Congress from Texas, including eight Democrats, signed a letter to the White House asking for relief. The utility commission also filed objections with the EPA.
Texas officials and the EPA have been clashing over air pollution and environmental issues for the past decade. The conflict has deepened under the Obama administration as the EPA turned more aggressive and Perry sharpened his attacks on Washington.”………

Yea, right. We'll give up our subsidies and keep our regular tax deductions offered to all corporations as long as they take away those tax deductions from the oil companies that are there for every business, no matter the industry.
Purposely worded to make it sound they will give up the same as what is taken away from the oil companies. They are setting up the unfair advantage they already have against oil.
If the damned Iowa caucuses were later in the year, we probably could have gotten rid of this outrage.
I’ll take Gov. Palin’s position: let’s take away special subsidies for all energy providers.
