Howie Carr thread week of Aug 28, 2011

Howie thread for the week starting with his Sunday Herald column. Just before 10 am now, as what is now Tropical Storm Irene heads through the northeast. Here on Boston's North Shore I can tell you from our Eyewitness Weather studio (where I look out the window and witness the weather) that it's light rain, not really windy. (It may pick up later but the storm is weakening though I'm sure it's a lot worse west of here)

Deval Patrick laments ‘tragedy,’ fails to take action
By Howie Carr | Sunday, August 28, 2011 |

http://www.bostonherald.com

My guess is that Hurricane Irene is going to kill a lot fewer Americans in Massachusetts this year than illegal aliens are. But don’t tell that to Gov. Deval Patrick — he doesn’t want to talk about dead Americans and the drunk Ecuadorians who killed them.

On Friday afternoon, on live statewide TV, the governor went on and on at the MEMA bunker in Framingham about emergency preparations and mobilizing the National Guard, etc. But just as he was wrapping up, Jon Keller of Channel 4 decided to get in a question about Matthew Denice, the 23-year-old Milford motorcyclist run down and killed by an allegedly drunken illegal from Ecuador a week ago last night.

Deval had spent the week hiding behind a written statement from his flack about this latest illegal-alien atrocity. So Keller figured he’d get something on videotape from the undocumented workers’ best friend in Massachusetts.

“Well,” Deval began, “first of all it’s a terrible, terrible tragedy for that family and my heart goes out to them and my prayers to them and the community who are outraged.”

Notice, he didn’t name the family, or the community, even though he attended a hearing in Milford on Secure Communities, the program to round up criminals like the accused Ecuadorian. Naturally, Deval vehemently opposes Secure Communities, and next he explained why.

“You know, illegal immigration didn’t kill this person. A drunk driver killed this person.”

Suppose an American had so brutally killed an illegal alien, dragging him down the street as he screamed, and then delivered the coup de grace by backing over him. You can bet Deval would not only have known the illegal’s name, but would have visited his family, cameras (and interpreters) in tow. But with only an American taxpayer dead, the governor wanted to keep the subject on drunken driving.

“And, uh, we have laws about that.”

Yeah, and despite what Marsha Coakley says, we also have laws about being in this country illegally. Not to mention laws against driving without a license, and assaulting police and firefighters, all of which this illegal alien is accused of violating with impunity.

This Ecuadorian roofer’s name is Nicholas Guaman, and he’s not to be confused with another Ecuadorian roofer named Luis Guaman, who’s accused of murdering a mother and her child in Brockton in February and then fleeing home.

By the way, this little scene took place in Framingham, where another illegal alien was arrested for drunken driving Wednesday night. This invader was from, of all places, Kenya, and his name is Obama. I’m not making this up — Onyango Obama, age 67.

Obama almost sideswiped a Framingham PD car, and then he had the nerve to tell the cop that he had, in effect, acted stupidly. The cops took Obama back to the police station, where cops said he blew a .14 on the Breathalyzer.

President Obama could not be reached for comment, nor could Auntie Zeituni. But Onyango Obama was held without bail, so one thing we can be sure of: Like Barack and Auntie Zeituni, he, too, is sitting around doing nothing, getting his three squares a day, compliments of the U.S. taxpayer. Celebrate diversity.

Is this the place?

Yes it is and I was there on Aug 8 of last year, seeing a NYC band called the Gas House Gorillas. Some have said the Spike TV show—state Sen. Bob Hedlund said he had seen in the other night—showed that “the Bone” as they like to call themselves was hemorrhaging money and conditions were bad. The night I was there, I had great steak tips and
some mozzarella sticks, a few beers. Sound good, so was the food and drink. But I guess they did go through a kind of
makeover.

From their site:
>>Wednesday, August 31
Boneoke w/ Scotty D.
8:30pm - 12:30am
It’s not Karaoke it’s Boneoke! Get up on stage and “WING IT” with Scotty D! See how it feels to be a Rock Star, performing on a real stage with quality sound and lighting. You’ll be backed up by a talented musician who can perform more than 500 songs. You can’t do this at just some Karaoke Bar! Only At The Chicken Bone!

Patrice said it ran Sunday night. I did catch like 30secs of the show,
but not long enough to find out what and where, just that tap beer
at 39deg gives a 97% yield v. a < 80% yield at 47deg.

It might have been the epi.

Yes, I think Hedlund had said last night that he had seen it “just last night” aka Sunday. Spike used to be the Nashville Network but went through a remodel of their own, at the very least in name. I hadn’t heard of the show.

"The Nashville Network" was bought by CBS, and they turned it into
"The National Network". I can't remember if "National" became
"Spike" for any other reason than to target the twenty-something male demo.

I occasionally confuse "Bar Rescue" with "Bar Karma", the latter
seems like it could be an interesting show, but it's on "The Algor
Network", and as such, I avoid it.

I have been off listening to Howie for a while because of his “Love In” session with Steve from Montreal, and was glad to hear McPhee

I think of his latest guest substitution list, she was the best of the group.

I will agree her voice to takes little to get used to, but her topic content is safe so she doesn’t veer too far off course from what Howie’s listeners are expecting.

Poor Nancy Pelosi’s rants vs. GOP don’t add up

By Howie Carr | Friday, September 2, 2011 |
http://www.bostonherald.com

The Botox must be getting to Nancy Pelosi, the former House speaker who until January was (God help us) third in line for the presidency.

This moonbat’s moonbat has never been the sharpest knife in the drawer, but her latest outburst may be her nuttiest yet.

Late last month, at a fund-raiser in her hometown of San Francisco, she discussed those wonderful days of 2007, when the Democrats retook control of the House and raised the minimum wage. It hadn’t been increased for a decade.

“It was kept down for the purpose that people would not be able to live on that. They’d have to borrow against home-equity loans, against their mortgages.”

For the record, the minimum wage in California (and Massachusetts) is $8 an hour. How many people making eight bucks an hour can afford a mortgage, let alone a home-equity loan?

“They’d have to live on credit cards, and what are they doing when they’re doing that? They’re paying fees to the banks.”

So that’s it! Those bleeping Republicans. Nancy then went down the list of the programs that the greedy GOP is gutting.

“You wonder, do their children breathe? Do they drink water? Why do they not care? But they don’t. But they don’t.”

Remember when she used to have her Air Force jet stocked with Johnnie Walker Blue? Wonder what she’s sipping nowadays. I double-dare you to diagram this next sentence:

“Imagine that they are protecting the tax cuts for top 2 percent, it’s really more higher than that, lower than that, I mean a higher number — percentage of people excluded for who they’re looking out for.”

May we quote you on that?

“And it’s a stunning thing because it’s a few people amassing money that doesn’t really make a difference in their quality of life.”

Please, tell us what the plutocrats want, you who are worth $35 million yourself.

“What more do they want? They have enough homes, the yacht, ya-da-da-da, the tall masts, the whole thing, they have museum-quality art.”

Museum-quality art envy. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods, Nancy.

“They want immortality. They want so much money . . . for prestige they could never get any other way.”

You know, like having, say, a hospital named after themselves. Why are these rich people allowed to have buildings named after themselves, just because they donated the money to build them? Everything should be named after liberal politicians like Ted Kennedy, whose building will be paid for not by his family or his estate but by ... us.

Noticed a car with a Tim Cahill for gov bumper sticker in the parking lot at the Cummings Ctr. in Beverly. Still on there.
Is he the reason we still have Deval?

And I noticed the Tim For Governor twitter account is still up. For some reason it wasn’t updated after 11/2/10
