The Alabama Legislature opened its session on March 1 on a note of humility and compassion. In the Senate, a Christian pastor asked God to grant members wisdom and discernment to do what is right. Not whats right in their own eyes, he said, but whats right according to your word. Soon after, both houses passed, and the governor signed, the countrys cruelest, most unforgiving immigration law. The law, which takes effect Sept. 1, is so inhumane that four Alabama church leaders an Episcopal bishop, a Methodist bishop and a Roman Catholic archbishop and bishop have sued to block it, saying it criminalizes acts of Christian compassion. It is a sweeping attempt to terrorize undocumented immigrants in every aspect of their lives, and to make potential criminals of anyone who may work or live with them or show them kindness.
It effectively makes it a crime to be an undocumented immigrant in Alabama, by criminalizing working, renting a home and failing to comply with federal registration laws that are largely obsolete. It nullifies any contracts when one party is an undocumented immigrant. It requires the police to check the papers of people they suspect to be here illegally.

Mexico is one of the better countries to be in this world.
Change one word and it all makes sense...
It effectively makes it a crime to be an illegal immigrant in Alabama,
As someone said “words mean things”...:^)
notice the left makes no distinction between legal and illegal immigrant and liberaltarians make none between citizens and foreigners.
I fully support illegals stealing from churches that support illegals.
Sadly many (Not all) Churches (or more precisely Church Leaders) are akin to Political Parties when consideration of recruitment comes up. They will look the other way on illegalities as long as the parishioners pony up in the collection plate and keep bearing children to refresh their ranks.
Roll Tide!!!
First, it is a lie to call them "undocumented" as most have forged documents of many kinds.
Second, being an immigrant or extended-vacationer who is here illegally is, by definition and by action, A CRIME.
“...the countrys cruelest, most unforgiving immigration law.”
Says who? Liberal asshats like the NYT Editorial Staff? Sounds like the Alabama’s state gov’t is just ensuring the laws already on the books are going to be enforced because the Feds ain’t doing their job.
“The law is so inhumane that four Alabama church leaders an Episcopal bishop, a Methodist bishop and a Roman Catholic archbishop and bishop have sued to block it, saying it criminalizes acts of Christian compassion.”
So, let me get this straight:
According to most stories the NYT publishes, Christians are bad, ignorant, racist people and should be banned from praying in public or contributing to any political debate, except when it is in line with the NYT Editorial Staff’s opinions.
(Snort, Spit) The NYT can kiss why my white, Christian butt. And they can kiss my wife’s brown, Mexican butt, too. Opinions are like butt holes, everybody has one. Unfortunately for the NYT Ed Staff, their opinion is worth less than toilet paper (as is their newspaper).
John 10:1 Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.
Illegal immigrants are using churches, courts, or politcal figures to get what they want. The churches should encourage them to do the right thing if they were following scripture.
I’ll tell them what’s “cruel.” The beatings, rapes, robberies, murders, drunk driving, child abuse, animal abuse, identity thefts, job-stealing, neighborhood-ruining, emergency room-ruining, disease-spreading, school-wrecking, and all the other things illegals do to Americans! Do they give a @#$@! about that?!
Yes just ask any Mexican. It is the greatest of countries. They don't want to live there..but that is a "technical issue". As Carlos Mencia said: "it's easy to get a white European in this country to say Europe sucks...but you can never get a Mexican to say Mexico sucks"...LOL!
What no barf alert? I’m nauseated. It’s a crime to be in the USA w/o docs? /sarc
I've also found people from Africa, in general, can't readily tell the difference between a Mexican and an American ~ particularly not in movies.
Indians, Arabs and North Africans may be confused a bit about how much they resemble Mexicans but how differently they act. Lots of history there ~
At the same time there's little confusion on the part of Americans and Mexicans about who is who.
There were many “progressive students” in the 1960s, like hillary rodam clinton who placed themselves in various areas of our government, churches, charitable organizations and education and over the years gained the “top seats”. We’re now seeing our short sightedness in not stopping them in the 1960s. We see a horrible example of our short sightedness in the EPA. We’re spending ourselves into a hole, begging for energy from other countries while sitting on the world’s largest energy supplies, thanks to the EPA and our gutless elected representatives.
The only cruelty here is mercilessly leaving Americans exposed to the massive crime wave flowing up out of Central America.
I can see the argument for the illegals now. “OH goodness gracious, by sending these illegals back to their home lands, we’ll be splitting families apart” OH MY, HOW TERRIBLE!! Well how in God’s good name was this country, even Canada and Australia begun?????????????? A family member came to this continent and LEFT THEIR FAMILY/IES in the OLD COUNTRY. Many times whole church leaders brought their frock to this land and left part of the families in the “old country”. Many Mexican men come to this country to work and leave their families in Mexico, sometimes for a few years, some even began “american families”, with American Mexicans then they’d go back to their “old family”. Don’t tell me it’s creul to leave the family behind, it’s been done time after time. These polly annas walk around with their brains stored where the sun don’t shine. Give me a break...split families...phfffft!
The law sounds like a good start to me.
Are you talking about La Raza (?) and other mexican organizations? IF these mexican organizations are so worried about the plight of the mexicans, just why don’t they go back to their mother country and change the mexican government into a government by and for the people? Why? Because they don’t have the courage to face the mexican government and work to change the mexican corruption, that’s why. Mexicans in Mexico can demonstrate ONLY in front of the AMERICAN CONSULATE...NOT ON THE AVERAGE STREET IN MEXICO. How about that???? Another thing to think about, while discussing Mexico and Mexican illegal immigrants, here. I have not seen ONE Mexican of European extraction, here illegally. WHY? The Mexicans we are seeing are all of Mexican Indians blood or mixed European and Indian blood.
Evidently the Mexican government is trying to get rid of the Mexican Indians and for the most part the Indians are completely undeducated. Some have gone to school to the 6th grade, as high as the mexican government will pay for their education....if the families are aware of education.
What’s cruel to Americans is coddling criminal aliens who go on to rape, murder, rob and drunk-drive.
The truly oppressed group is undocumented property owners. They are constantly demonised by the right wing media with the label “thieves”, just because their title to the BMW they hotwired isn’t recognised by America’s reactionary legal system.
Unemployment in Mexico is about half the USA's unemployment rate.
If you are of European heritage.
Goebbels could learn from these fascists at the NYT. I mean this is pure propaganda. When does CW II start? Not soon enough, we are truly a nation divided.
GO DAWGS and WAR EAGLE. Should be an interesting game. I went to MSU and the man I am going with played for Auburn. Just hope it is cooler than it has been. : )
It makes it a crime to be a criminal! Oh, the humanity...
If you're talking about your typical Mexican's bad attitude toward anyone who's not a Mexican, that's a different topic.
We have a bunch of Mexicans. They need to go back to Mexico. That's not at all inhumane, and certainly far from terrible.
It effectively makes it a crime to be an undocumented immigrant in Alabama...
You've been listening to the vile, despicable Debbie Wasserman-Shultz too much.
>>>The truly oppressed group is undocumented property owners. They are constantly demonised by the right wing media with the label thieves, just because
The truly oppressed group is undocumented metal recyclers. They are constantly demonised by the right wing media with the label thieves, just because they recycle the air conditioners, electricity lines, street lamp poles that Americans refuse to do.
This is just one of the reasons I hate living in NY, because the top liberal rag in the nation is based here.
Does the NY Times have a toilet paper edition? No one here in Alabama (except those of us in the outlaw blogosphere) read that rag.
This is why Alabama seceded from the Union ... having to put up with assholes and liars like this and federal tyranny.
I’m tired of the progressive churches blurring the line.
Why the hell do they exist, proclaiming That God has standards to enter Heaven, yet ignore America’s standards to enter the US.
Absolutely. Mexico has 5.6% unemployment. That's down .1% from a year ago. America should be so lucky. They have a "social safety net" too.
It's a beautiful place that I've traveled far and wide before and would visit again under the right circumstances. I've even volunteered for a Mexican orphanage.
It has its downsides, like any country. Chiefly, these days, it's pockets of cartel violence near the border.
These writers act as if the return of its citizens to Mexico is like a return to a genocidal Sudan or Pol Pot's Cambodia or turning away Jewish refugees feeling from Nazi Germany.
It's absolute nonsense.
More like a “puke with chunks” alert!
Nah, the progressive churches think you can pick and choose those, too.
When they start paying taxes like everyone else, then they can participate in political debate that costs millions of working taxpayers billions$.
If those bishops gave up their exalted positions and went to a Third World Country and worked directly with the sick and poor-———— then I’d listen to them talk about Christian compassion.
