Buchanan: Bush Broke United States As A Superpower
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 08/29/2011 4:57:57 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Pat Buchanan regularly serves as Morning Joe's lone conservative in the show's self-described 10:1 ratio of lib to conservative guests. But Buchanan this morning demonstrated that he is anything but a Republican partisan.

Sounding more like Barney Frank after a bad night's sleep, Buchanan blasted President George W. Bush, claiming 43 "broke the Republican party and frankly he broke the United States as a superpower." View the video here.

Buchanan STAYS an ass.

Bush is one of many who damaged the US, but perhaps no greater claim to destruction can be made by our very own Barak OTrauma.

Well gosh Pat.

That’s so helpful of you to say.

Have you been sleeping for the last 3 years? Glad you’re focused on the country’s problems like that. Gee.

Go back to sleep now. Good grief.

It wasnt just the war spending itself but the fact that war spending, especially when it becomes unpopular, is always followed by run-ups in other non-war spending (war and welfare) as a political sweetener.

True, Bush needed that quid pro quo while he was POTUS, plus there is that political pendulum that swept in Obama and Company to get even WRT spending for the wars, TARP, tax cuts.

I’ve commented several times that after the election of 2004, Republicans were probably their strongest position since WWII, and after the election of 2008, the party was in its weakest position since WWII.

Many seem to agree that W’s second term was a disaster for the Republican party and maybe for the nation. Buchanan has a point on much of what he said.

Broke the US by kicking AQ, Iraq and Afghanistan’s butt?

Or maybe it’s the JOOOOOS fault.

The only two good things in the eight years of Bush were Alito and Roberts.

And those two were not W's first choices. Harriet Miers was his first choice for the second opening, and there's good evidence that Alberto Gonzalez was his first choice for the first opening. He was dissuaded from the Miers appointment in public, and maybe from a Gonzalez appointment in private.

The benefit of having Obama as POTUS over a Bush or McCain is that Republicans will actually oppose bankrupting the country under Obama, as opposed to making excuses for it under a Bush/McCain:

"He kept us safe' was the all purpose excuse that didnt seem to catch fire with most voters.

Pat Buchanan has been “broke” as a political commentator long before George W Bush.

Poster child for everything liberals love to bash conservatives with. Flirts with racism, antisemitism, nazi sympathy. Once he was the lone conservative on CNN crossfire. I thank you for your service . Now go away.

God forbid we ever have a president who keeps strong growth for years at a time, keeps tax burdens low, appoints two strong conservatives to the USSC and builds a stronger miliary.

I sure hope we never have that again. Bush had a couple major faults, but so does any president. He was poor on spending, and terrible on illegal immigration. Even on those he was better than the other party by far.

His biggest fault was a dramatically poor public relations effort after reelection. That is is what killed the republican party. Even when they were doing the right thing, the message was not communicated. Po

Yeah...only a weak, non-Super Power could topple Saddam, switch Iraq to democracy and set up a HQ between Iran and Pakistan in Afganistan thereby planting a US presence in the heartland of Islam, right Pat?

Sheesh...get a CLUE!

I agree, but I am also worried about the increasing likelihood of Obama putting more rogue justices on the SCOTUS.

Despite a major terror attack, a major war, and a major natural disaster.

I watched a CSpan show, for over an hour, when Pat Buchanan debated his position that the British and the world would have been better off without Churchill.

Buchanan and Paul are vying for regular positions on the George Norry nighttime Coast to Coast radio show.

What are their beliefs regarding the World Tower attacks were an inside job known to George Bush beforehand?

RE :"I agree, but I am also worried about the increasing likelihood of Obama putting more rogue justices on the SCOTUS. "

So far he hasnt changed the balance, we are better off on the SCOTUS than we were in 2001 as O Conner was a disaster.

Would you trade to get another Roberts like justice for accepting full Bush type amnesty"? (Would still require a Republican Senate)

Pat Buchanan very nearly put Al Gore in the White House—his vanity campaign in 2000 undoubtedly drew more votes from Bush than from Gore.
