Federal judge blocks Ala. illegal immigration law

A federal judge temporarily blocked enforcement of Alabama's new law cracking down on illegal immigration, ruling Monday that she needed more time to decide whether the law opposed by the Obama administration, church leaders and immigrant-rights groups is constitutional.

The brief order by U.S. District Judge Sharon L. Blackburn means the law won't take effect as scheduled on Thursday. The ruling was cheered by opponents who have compared the law to old Jim Crow-era statutes against racial integration.

But Blackburn didn't address whether the law is constitutional, and she could still let all or parts of the law take effect later. The judge said she will issue a longer ruling by Sept. 28.

On April 11, 1991, Blackburn was nominated by President George H.W. Bush to a new seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama created by 104 Stat. 5089. She was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 24, 1991, and received her commission on May 30, 1991. She has served as chief judge since 2006.

How is it unconstitutional to deny the benefits of citizenship to non-ctizens?

Told you so.

Meanwhile, 3-4 Dream Acts at the state level ***ARE*** being allowed to go in effect.

Thus is life in Obamaland. :) He’s going to need the illegal vote in 2012.

So now state laws are considered unconstitutional until a Federal judge decides otherwise?

I wonder when we will get a judge that actually rules against illegal aliens for once.

Sharon Blackburn is a tyrannical despot and should be brought up on charges and removed from office.

AP “Accountability Journalism”: ‘The ruling was cheered by opponents who have compared the law to old Jim Crow-era statutes against racial integration.’ See how that works? AP gets to call Alabama racist is a ‘news’ story.

Luckily he won't get it in Texas. No Government ID, no vote.

She didn’t actually rule on anything other than to block the law from going into effect this week. Said she’d issue a longer ruling September 28.

No idea what to expect from her.

Feds zealously guard their responsibility to manage immigration —then toss it to the wind, doing nothing.

That’s like putting the chevy up on blocks in your front yard, then charging everyone in the neighborhood to watch it rust.

I think the question of it being Constitutional probably is based on the State taking it upon themselves to enforce what usually comes under Federal jurisidiction.

A federal judge temporarily blocked enforcement of Alabama's new law cracking down on illegal immigration

When will this judge block enforcement of rape, murder, or burglary laws?
