FORT BRAGG, Calif. (AP) -- A Northern California town was reeling Monday after the death of a well-respected city councilman and former mayor who was gunned down after finding a remote illegal marijuana operation.

As authorities searched the rugged forest terrain for a suspect in the shooting, Fort Bragg Councilman Jere Melo was remembered as a community leader who led efforts to build firehouses and a first-class high school football stadium in the coastal town of about 7,000 people.

This is the stuff that really scares me. Cartels operating in the United States who hire violent illegals to guard their hidden groves and processing facilities.

I've heard stories of joggers in California happening on these types of operations and barely escaping with their lives.

Thank goodness we’re not going to place any blame on citizens that create the market those cartels cater to.

If you don’t like the laws of our land, get them changed. Until you do, why not join the rest of us as a law abiding citizen who doesn’t support the cartels?

Years ago I went to a graduation ceremony at Cal Poly and during the beginning
of the ceremony they asked everyone to observe a moment of silence for 2 students who were just killed and it was
surmised they had stumbled into a pot operation very scary.

Melo, 69, was investigating reports of a marijuana farm along the Noyo River in the heart of pot country, authorities said.

ok, that is NOT his job... that is what the COPS are for

he was neither trained to deal with nor was he armed to deal with clandestine growers

Meanwhile the Feds are doing SWAT raids on milk farmers and guitar manufacturers who don’t follow Indian law closely enough.

If I were President, I’d send out DHS, CBPE, DEA, FBI and any agency connected in the past to Waco out to find these illegal-protected pot farms and enforce the law. I’d require the agents to carry only weapons with rubber riot bullets.

I'd say that's what the National Guard is for.

Those folks haven't started shooting cops. Yet.

There's plenty of satellite data available to sent appropriate forces in to eradicate.

To ignore available data is to support.

Yes, no blame for the pot-heads, even those on FR who fund these criminals.

It's pretty much legal to grow it, own it and smoke it in California so that didn't end the violence.

This is another great argument to be used by liberals who refuse to control our border!

[ Well..., let’s thank the DHS. DEA, NFS, FBI, CIA, BATFE, White Hut, etc. ]

All the above agencies are too busy Sticking their hands down people’s pants, Busting people who buy one too many boxes of cold medication, and Facilitating unde the counter gun sales to foreign nationals.

So they are far too busy, obviously we need another federal agencey and laws to deal with this scourgae for the childrens.

1. Create commons sense laws concerning a real problem.
2. Don’t enforce them.
3. Tell Public that we need MORE laws to fix problem.
4. Pass more laws that are badly written and vague.
5. Selectively enforce the badly written and vague laws.
6. Now that everyone is a “criminal” you can selectively remove and imprison your political enemies.
7. Do steps 3 through 6 again if you cannot get rid of all your politcal enemies.
