Rep. Allen West (R- Fla.), the lone Republican in the Congressional Black Caucus, said Tuesday morning that he is considering leaving the group in light of comments by caucus whip Rep. Andrè Carson (D-Ind.), who said at a town hall that tea-party affiliated members of Congress see African Americans as "second-class citizens" and would be happy to see blacks "hanging from a tree."
"When you start using words such as lynching thats a reprehensible word and I think we should move away from that language," West said on Fox & Friends. "One of the things I'm starting to think about is reconsidering my membership in the Congressional Black Caucus, because I don't think they're moving in the right manner toward solving the problems in not just the black community, but all of America."
West is the first Republican to join the CBC since Rep. Gary Franks (R- CT) left Congress in 1997.
The Democratic members of the CBC have been active critics of the Tea Party during the summer recess. Earlier this month, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said that the Tea Party "can go straight to hell."
West said that other CBC members were blaming the Tea Party for bad economic conditions.
"I think what you see is a desire to not recognize some of the serious problems in the black community," West said. "To try to have a scapegoat that is the Tea Party that's just a distraction. The Tea Party stands for some basic, constitutional principles."
This is not the first time West and Waters have sparred over language this summer. Earlier this month, West referred to Waters and other Democratic leaders as overseers on a 21st century plantation. He went on to liken himself to a modern-day Harriet Tubman who would lead black voters to the Republican Party.
Waters denounced Wests comments, calling them a little bit ridiculous and hard to respond to in an interview on MSNBC.
West's membership in the CBC has been a point of some controversy. In October, CBC Chairwoman Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) questioned whether West should be allowed to join the caucus.
Our agenda is about lifting people out of poverty, providing middle-class tax cuts, supporting climate-change legislation, she told The Economist. Do [incoming black Republicans] embrace this agenda?
Ultimately, it was decided that West would be allowed membership to the CBC. Rep. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), the only other black Republican in Congress, declined to join the group.
The CBC doesn’t consider West to be black anyway - so what’s the big deal?
HE should NOT be in that “caucus”.....it really should be renamed the National RACIST Caucus....cause, that’s what they are....racists!
It's been a long standing methodology of Black Muslims to incite race riots in the US..
Seeing as how the BC is about as likely to correct their blatant racism as it is for the sun to rise in the west he should leave and make it clear in a public statement they can stick their stupidity where the sun will NEVER shine.
.
West would be, in telling the CBC to pound salt, helping his cause considerably in winning back my and many others’ support. I still think he’s a good man, he just needs to get his act together.
I am surprised they let West into the CBC. I guess they had to. As a Racist organization they had to be consistent in their Blacks only policy. BTW, what would the reaction be to a Congressional White Caucus?
There. I fixed it.
Has Andre Carson forgotten the lessons of Tucson, at which liberals lectured us that we need to tone down the violent and hateful rhetoric?
Or does Carson really believe that we want to see blacks hanging from trees?????????
I never understood where this alleged racism of the tea party and conservatives is coming from. What the heck does advocating certain tax and spending policies have to do with anyone’s race?
You mean the Democratic Black Congressional Caucus?
Good for him.
What the hell is he doing in a highly racist group of thugs anyway? His judgement is extremely poor having anything to do with a racially exclusive, nasty group. Shame on him.
ditto.
[ West considering leaving Black Caucus ]
Well Duuuuugh... he should have never joined them in the first place UNLESS!!!!...
1) He was going lecture them about socialism..
2) laugh at the appropriate times during “screeds”..
3) be “the snitch” to our side..
4) use the word n!ggar carefully and artfully..
5) arrive in black face every now and again..
When about to be caught, they go on the attack. The ponzi scheme is raging its final throws and this is their final solution.
I don’t see a lot of difference in the Congressional Black Caucus and the KKK.
I think West joined on purpose so he could wait until they pulled several “stunts” and then leave citing ethical and moral issues with the CBC so he could expose them for the race baiters and hypocrits they are.

. Ah, gold, government, socialism, all those “Gold Cities” communist or socialist paradizes to lure people to a ponzi enslaving scheme that was never to deliver in the first place, all used to deviate us and fight each other.
It’s not at all ridiculous.
IMHO, Alan West should stay on as a member in the Congressional Black Caucus for several valid, good reasons. Number one, the CBC is about to become unglued (They will fight, rant their Black racism and hate, but American Blacks are going to be forced to make a choice. Stay with POTUS Obama, the CBC, The NAACP and continue to wither on the vine of economic & political slavery or many years to come. Or, choose freedom, liberty, opportunity, education, success, assimilation, happiness, etc.) Alan West is the “Jackie Robinson” of political freedom and movement for the entire American Black citizens!!! POTUS Obama is naught but an “African Muslim” who as most African Muslims, has thrown American Blacks under the bus!!! The road will long, painful and very hard on Mr. West, but he can use the CBC as a platform to save American Blacks from falling over the cliff with the strongly anti-American, pro Muslim Brotherhood, Obama and some in the CBC!!! American Blacks have to do a “fiddler on the roof” soul search, and....a strong voice for positives is needed, supplied by American, Alan West!!! Obama is finished as anything useful!!! He is now useless to any in the American Black community. New leadership from within the Black leadership sphere is sorely needed. Mr. West is a good and grand beginning!!! He will certainly by a positive force in leading American Blacks to all that they can be as free and equal partners in our nation of greatness. The CBC has failed them, POTUS Obama has failed them and the NAACP has failed them miserably!!! Hang in there, Alan West!!!
