Sarah Palin Appearance at Tea Party Rally in Iowa ‘No Longer Confirmed’
WSJ ^ | August 31, 2011 | Danny Yadron

Posted on 08/31/2011 8:11:56 AM PDT by markomalley

Sarah Palin canceled her Saturday appearance at a tea party rally in Indianola, Iowa, a person close the former Alaska governor told The Wall Street Journal.

The person cited “continual lying” from event organizers at Tea Party of America, including a recent mixup over whether former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell of Delaware would also speak.

Ms. Palin is known for last-minute schedule changes that whipsaw supporters and media across the country. But the latest decision is puzzling. Ms. Palin’s speech at the rally was viewed as her most high-profile appearance of the summer, fueling speculation she was indeed plotting to run for the Republican presidential nomination.

Attendees were reportedly traveling from across the U.S. to attend the rally in Iowa, which holds the nation’s first nominating contest next year.

The former governor will now appear at a Friday event in Des Moines sponsored by the group Conservatives4Palin. It is currently scheduled for 8 p.m. at The Machine Shed Restaurant, though the location will probably have to be changed, the person close to Ms. Palin said. Ms. Palin is still scheduled to appear at a Tea Party Express tour stop Monday in New Hampshire.

Ms. Palin may still hold an event Saturday, the person said, though she has no firm plans. It’s also possible she could still attend the Indianola tea party rally, the person said.

The former governor’s team decided to back out Tuesday night after rally organizers re-invited Ms. O’Donnell to speak on stage. Organizers had booked Ms. O’Donnell, who lost her 2010 bid for a U.S. Senate seat from Delaware, to speak but quickly withdrew the invitation in an effort to avoid controversy.

There is NO WAY she is going to be anyone’s running mate, unless they are intent on losing. I believe there is no chance Perry would ever pick Palin. Never going to happen. But you are right—the speculation will happen.

I think if she really wanted to run, she would already be running. I think her life is good now and maybe she just doesn’t want the aggravation. I don’t think being president is much fun, especially now days.

Another self-inflicted wound. Although she has been abused like no one else by the msm, some of her problems are her own. How hard would it have been to say, “Katie, as Governor of Alaska I constantly get news from public officials before it’s reported. So although I do read the local Alsakan papers and the WSJ, most of the time the things I read aren’t news to me anymore.” Or, “Katie, being Governor of Alaska does give me a unique insight to foreign affairs because Russia is not an abstraction to us, it’s our neighbor. And we ahve to deal with it on a variety of issues. The same goes for AK’s relationship with America’s largest trading partner, Canada.” Or not have Kate Freakin Goslein on your reality tv show.

That’s what I’m thinking (”they lied”), and waiting to see how it plays out. At first reaction this was a “Oh Noes!!!”. But, she’ll be at other events “nearby”, and sounds like maybe another one to replace the one she is declining. (If this story is true.)

“Ya know, this is the kind of stuff we’re trying to get rid of in Washington - the “politics as usual”. Mr. Obama campaigned on that - but it’s not his version that I want. And I’m pretty sure that the great folks of Iowa, and across America don’t want it either.

I fought this cronyism up in Alaska, and we should have to put up with it in politics ANYWHERE.”

Where does it say anything about anyone taking commited funds?

I know someone very close to this and this person is as honest as they come.

This is a very sad situation for some very good people.

See my post 41 re: the completely idiotic notion that Palin will be considered, let alone chosen, as a VP nominee again.

Go to the event......it was just reported that the event is still on with Palin as speaker....seems that this story is B.S. (there were some problems but the organizer got things cleared up....Scott Conroy tweeted that this story is bull!

No evidence of this on the conservatives4palin website, uses anonymous “sources”.

Looks like a phony story to me.

There is no mention of this at C4P. Should we consider the possibility that this blog is BS?

I am getting very impatient. She said she would decide whether or not she was running in September. I thought she would announce at this event. I am starting to feel jilted!

Same here. The coyness is getting old.
