Sarah Palin Appearance at Tea Party Rally in Iowa ‘No Longer Confirmed’
WSJ ^ | August 31, 2011 | Danny Yadron

Posted on 08/31/2011 8:11:56 AM PDT by markomalley

Sarah Palin canceled her Saturday appearance at a tea party rally in Indianola, Iowa, a person close the former Alaska governor told The Wall Street Journal.

The person cited “continual lying” from event organizers at Tea Party of America, including a recent mixup over whether former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell of Delaware would also speak.

Ms. Palin is known for last-minute schedule changes that whipsaw supporters and media across the country. But the latest decision is puzzling. Ms. Palin’s speech at the rally was viewed as her most high-profile appearance of the summer, fueling speculation she was indeed plotting to run for the Republican presidential nomination.

Attendees were reportedly traveling from across the U.S. to attend the rally in Iowa, which holds the nation’s first nominating contest next year.

The former governor will now appear at a Friday event in Des Moines sponsored by the group Conservatives4Palin. It is currently scheduled for 8 p.m. at The Machine Shed Restaurant, though the location will probably have to be changed, the person close to Ms. Palin said. Ms. Palin is still scheduled to appear at a Tea Party Express tour stop Monday in New Hampshire.

Ms. Palin may still hold an event Saturday, the person said, though she has no firm plans. It’s also possible she could still attend the Indianola tea party rally, the person said.

The former governor’s team decided to back out Tuesday night after rally organizers re-invited Ms. O’Donnell to speak on stage. Organizers had booked Ms. O’Donnell, who lost her 2010 bid for a U.S. Senate seat from Delaware, to speak but quickly withdrew the invitation in an effort to avoid controversy.

Some of these comments are hilarious. All you “She ain’t runnin;/Perry skeered her off types just go right on thinking that. Don’t make a lick of difference. Since no one here knows the real story behind this, speculate to it’s meaning all you like. Nothing has changed.

Read your Sun Tzu, then get back to me. Seems to me that she saw a cluster#### in the making and wisely chose to avoid it.

Have so many ‘supporters so little faith? Why is it chicken little lives on the Palin threads lately?

Note the continued reference to “Ms. Palin”, this article probably shouldn’t be taken as gospel.

It’s possible. I guess someone will have to log in to Facebook and find out. Or wait for an authoritative tweet.

Looks like she definitely does not want to appear at an event with Christine. I really don’t blame her.

If this is even true, what’s the controversy with O’Donnell also speaking?

[At this stage of the game, there are only two logical possibilities as to why such a schedule would be kept. One, presidential campaign. Or two, egomania/limelight hog.]

Or 3) she will endorse Perry at the Conservatives4Palin event and head to NH to campaign for him on Saturday. Maybe she thinks Pery can win and has enough doubt about her own chances to step aside. If that is the case, she is putting her country first!

You’ve just articulated why she obviously was never going to run for POTUS.

I had 2 “tickets” for this and was planning to attend. I ma going to wad them up and use them both to light my grill this weekend to do do Hamburgers.

Hey, you could still go see Christine O'Donnell. Ask her about her stance on gay marriage.

And you don’t make a video that ends with a Grizzly bear rising up next to a caption that says “See you September 3” and back out of it because a candidate you previously touted as a mama grizzly is also speaking. Epic Fail.

I’m having a hard time staying on the Palin bandwagon. At first it was kind of cool, thinking she was playing the media and had a master plan, but in the past several weeks, she just comes across as confused. And that’s from someone (me) who cried tears of joy when McCain nominated her. I don’t know what she’s thinking, what direction she’s going, or what she’s all about. For a private citizen, that’s okay, and maybe that’s all she wants to be. Who knows??

hmmmmm.........could be!

Over at RCP, they are saying this event is “on hold”. Big difference from “cancelled”.

This story about the Indianola event is not over yet!

(like I said, at least this keeps her in the news!)

This person contradicts himself or herself? Sound fishy.

Why do you not blame her? O’Donnell was heavily promoted by many here at FR, and those of us who pointed out the problems that O’Donnell had were viciously and mercilessly attacked for daring not to toe the line.

So, now Palin has an issue with O’Donnell and suddenly, everyone falls in line behind Palin?

There is absolutely no consistency.

I don't think so either. But she is sure disappointing and confusing a lot of people who have held out for her. I doubt she could beat Obama; she has been so vilified by the media, the pundits, and the old line GOPers. She had good qualities but I think she got off on the wrong track somewhere along the line. I like Palin and she kept that “homey” quality, but needed to polish up a bit, IMHO.
