The lone Republican member of the Congressional Black Caucus said Wednesday hes thinking of quitting the group over fellow members comments trashing the tea party.
I think that we heard the president talk about some of this over-the-top rhetoric and we should move away from that, Florida Rep. Allen West said on Fox & Friends.
When you start using words such as lynching, I was born and raised in Georgia and my folks were from southern Georgia, born in the 20s and 30s, thats a very reprehensible word and we should move away from using that type of language. And I have to tell you, one of the things Im starting to think about is reconsidering my membership in the Congressional Black Caucus because I dont think that theyre moving towards the right manner in which were going to solve the problems not just in the black community but all across the United States of America.
Wests comments come after Rep. Andre Carson (D-Ind.) told a CBC gathering in Miami that some of them in Congress right now of this tea party movement would love to see you and me
hanging on a tree. Last week, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) told Los Angeles constituents that as far as Im concerned the tea party can go straight to hell."

Rep. West is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.
I had hoped the reason he joined the CBC was to try to influence and/or keep tabs on them.
He represents all citizens of all races and to join a club which excludes membership on the basis of race is, well, racist.
I agree. And it would make it impossible for the Congressional Black Racist Caucus to call itself “bipartisan.” He should condemn them and then resign from the group.
That would be a good move and a wise decision.
And what has the great communicator who promised to “Bring the country together” said or done in response to the CBC’s slander? Nothing, as usual.
Heck, owebama probably gave the order to take their show on the road, specifically to attack the tea party.
NO! Rep. West - please stay in the CBC and be a continuous thorn in their side!
Not a bad idea. It would give West an opportunity to point out that the CBC is an explicitly racist organization, and to call for its disbanding.
He won’t quit.
He’s just wanting to ‘appear’ to be distancing himself...
I think he should stay and and use his presence there to expose every member for the lying, racists that they obviously are.
They were just as vile before he joined.
what changed?
A guy like Allen West is never going to get any kind of satisfaction from black legislators. They have been brainwashed into despising and attacking any black who has the temerity to adhere to conservative values. I do not think we will see it change anytime soon.
It is pretty bad when he joined to keep thy enemy closer and now he can’t tolerate them.I wish he would run for the Presidency.
Is there truly a need for a CBC? I don’t see institutional racism, I see many successful black people, I see opportunities available for all... and it makes me glad.
Don’t know much about Allen West, but from what I gather about the racist/race bating CBC... he’s way better without them.
I do think that Congressman West's response was too gentile. I was disappointed.
Congressional Switchboard: (202) 224- 3121
Complex cultural statement, or a typo?
He should have never joined the racist group in the first place.
definitely a typo-—I even recognised that it “seemed” wrong and spell checked it and even that didn’t save me...I won’t ever pretend to be capable of any complex cultural statements **weak smile**
thanks for catching my error
I do too! My boss is black — she’s a highly intelligent woman in charge of 3 units in a very large hospital ...several of the nurses I work with are AA — I don’t really “see” color when I work ...we’re all there together. The university I attend looks to have about 50% AA in attendance ...I mean, I don’t go around counting.
Many in the military ...many everywhere. WHY do we need a “special” caucus just for blacks?
I think the black caucus needs the black caucus, and that’s about it.
I agree. Remember the scandal with the CBC scholarship fund..when they were going to family and friends? The CBC books are supposedly open to EVERY CBC member...I wanted West to audit them...
