The Hartland-Lakeside School District, about 30 miles west of Milwaukee in tiny Hartland, Wis., had a problem in its collective bargaining contract with the local teachers union. The contract required the school district to purchase health insurance from a company called WEA Trust. The creation of Wisconsin's largest teachers union -- "WEA" stands for Wisconsin Education Association -- WEA Trust made money when union officials used collective bargaining agreements to steer profitable business its way. The problem for Hartland-Lakeside was that WEA Trust was charging significantly higher rates than the school district could find on the open market.

These WEAC plans cost so much more, there have been school districts who have only just changed health insurance providers, but the very same coverage, and just with this one change, now have a surplus in their school budgets.

No freaking lie.

I read where the premium for a family plan from WEA Trust was $2880 per month....

From the article...

Hartland-Lakeside - "It's going to save us about $690,000 in 2011-2012,"
Pewaukee School District - will save $378,000 by next year by leaving WEA Trust.
The Menomonee Falls School District - will reportedly save $1.3 million.

Just these three districts represent $2.3 million in overcharges for insurance. Unions have been raping the taxpayers.

The national media has been much too busy rooting through Sarah Palin’s garbage, attacking her children and trashing others like Michele Bachmann, Christine O’Donnell and the TEA Party to investigate and report on these types of corrupt union scams.

Who knew this vile labor union scam was going on, other than Wisconsin school officials, state politicians and the corrupt union?

Who knows how many other states have similar teachers labor union scams in place, stealing tax money intended for the education of the children?

Who knows how many other non-teacher, public employee unions are runnng similar scams nationwide?

Who knows how much money nationwide is being diverted from legitimate education costs to put money in the pockets of corrupt union officials and the corrupt politicians who cut these deals?

Is it hundreds of millions?

Is it a billion dollars?

Is it several billion or more?

Exposing scandals like this is the kind of investigative reporting a free media should be engaged in instead of helping to carry their favorite liberal candidates across the finish line ahead of the opposition.

After listening to months of rants from Wis. teachers, I just have to wonder how they became the willing servants of the union boys. It’s no wonder that our public schools turn out such a poor product - our kids are being taught by fools.

Are there any teachers out there which can advise on the level of coverage? Was the coverage better, faster payments, less problems?

Maybe the union also took advantage of the teachers!

If we the people succeed in 2012 in giving the Republicans control of the White House, the Senate and the House, then Congress should pass a law that does in every state what WI did in their state. Also, Congress should make it mandatory that union dues used for political contributions shall be distributed among the parties in accordance with a vote by secret ballot by the union members. Not all union members are in favor of the Dems getting all their money. Each member should first say whether he wants any of his dues used for political purposes, and if so, then he should be able to choose to which party or candidate/s it will go.

The Republicans could do this and not lose a single vote.

I would like to see excess union dues taxed at the highest corporate rate. Then we might see an interesting ally in reducing or eliminating the corporate income tax.
