Sen. Jim DeMint vowed Wednesday to try to block President Barack Obama from addressing a joint session of Congress on the same day as a Republican presidential debate next week.
Obama could learn something from the GOP, DeMint reasoned, in adding his voice — and his vote — to a growing chorus of Republican objections.
“The president should pick another night. I’m planning to watch the Republican primary debate … and the president should watch it, too,”
The iconic South Carolina conservative said. “If he has a jobs proposal, put it in writing, give us a cost estimate, and send it over. I want to read the bill, not listen to talking points off a TelePrompter. If he insists on playing politics by picking the night of the GOP debate, I will object to the session.”

If I remember correctly, Jim DeMint threatened to filibuster the debt ceiling vote unless he got a balanced budget amendment along with it.
To tell the truth, I don’t remember the details of how that turned out. But I sure don’t remember a DeMint filibuster; nor do I remember a balanced budget amendment approved by the Senate.

“Block the speech” is yellow journalism. Politico is not a news org but a propaganda organization. DeMint cannot block Obama from doing anything, but he can exercise influence over his fellow Senators and GOP colleagues.

Actually Demint can block the a joint session speech. It takes a joint resolution by congress to allow the president to speak in congress. Obama is not a king and it’s time the congress make that clear to the little punk Chicago thug.
Barry can give his latest reading of crapola from the Oval Office during the GOP debate and give the same speech he'd give to a joint session of Congress. Hopefully, the GOP has learned from the treatment Barry gave Paul Ryan, and if you want to go back, Justice Alito and the USSC, in these staged "bi-partisan" Obama political events/joint sessions. At this point, if the GOP gives this lame duck President anything, then they really are the party of stupid.

I heard it on our FOX affiliate hear in MO and on the ABC radio news at the top of each hour.
This President is so weak at this point, only John McLame would support him. I fully expect McLame to start bashing Boehner and DeMint for not letting King Barry hold court by tomorrow.
Because the Obozo wants to make a campaign speech in a forum where he'll get applause from the brain-dead dems. He wants to look presidential by having congress sitting at his feet while he blathers on about his "jobs" plan, with Bite Me popping up to cheerlead the applause every few seconds.
