Legislature in California Set to Pass a Dream Act
The New York Times ^ | August 31, 2011 | JENNIFER MEDINA

LOS ANGELES — The California Legislature is poised to pass a law that would allow illegal immigrants to receive state-financed aid for college. Known as the California Dream Act, the bill underscores the ways states are navigating their own way through controversial immigration issues, as the Obama administration has been unable to make headway on plans for an overhaul of immigration laws. While the state law would do nothing to provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, it would provide them with more education benefits than they have in any other state. Advocates of the legislation say it would also send a powerful message to President Obama and Congress, forcing them to reconcile a patchwork of state laws that contradict one another.

I wonder, how is California supposed to pay for this?

Just another example of why a state run by dems is doomed.

I think NYT got it wrong.

Maryland passed a DREAM-like act a few months ago. Gov. O’Malley signed it.
It would
provide community college and university tuition aid to certain
illegal immigrants who graduated from MD high schoools.

A bunch of grassroots people put together enough signatures
to put it on the ballot this November.
Thus, the DREAM-like law is on hold.

When are Holder’s boys and girls going to file the lawsuit against California. Isn’t this the feds job? What California is doing is “unconstitutional”.

If they could only figure out what is causing them to be so far in debt they could start to deal with it.

Nothing seems to come to mind though......

And that big dust cloud headed west out of Arizona isn’t one of those haboods or whatever the hell it is that the cookie cutter, Ken and Barbie news anchors in Phoenix call them. Some muzzie garbage.

They cannot pay for it. They are counting on having a Dem President and a Dem congress in 2012 who will fund their foolishness under the banner of stimulus II.

This sounds like a good deal for illegal immigrants, but surprisingly, it is unlikely they will receive any education of value from a California university or college.

They don't know the few institutions that actually teach anything useful in landing a real world job or business.

Considering the astronomical tuition, most California institutions are engaging in fraud as their degrees have little in real world earning potential.

This is more about directing taxpayer cash to worthless tenured professors and administrators salaries than educating illegals.

The same way the RATS pay for everything. Borrow and tax the hell out of us.

I guess it is impossible to out-stupid California. Other states (such as Illinois, Michigan, New York, etc.) will have to vie for next to the stupidest state.

It's actually the Hispanic caucus in the California legislature showing their "a$$".

The article has a new point in it ~ just as you think you've heard it all from the cheap labor crowd, they come up with a new one ~ now they want Congress to act to "reconcile a patchwork of state laws" ~ which means they want federal imposition of INSTATE TUITION for all illegals in all states!

Any of you folks on this thread who favor one of the numerous Republican candidates this year might get to your boy, or girl, and let them know that this is A NEW DEMAND and you want them to provide a FIRM POSITION.

Obviously the correct Conservative answer is NO INSTATE TUITION FOR FOREIGNERS, AND CERTAINLY NOT AHEAD OF AMERICANS!

Where is the Holder DOJ and the lawsuits that must necessarily ensue to stop this state from doing the federal government’s job? Oh, wait...that only applies to states that try to enforce immigration LAWS that the federal government refuses to enforce.

The Obastard’s administration, and its corrupt DOJ, should be shown the door ASAP.

Community colleges in CA are already full. [Citizen] students cannot get the clases they want. Now they want to flood it with even more illegals—and finance them as well. What did they expect with Gov Moonbeam in charge?
