Has new research disproven the theoretical models of anthropogenic global warming? A new study by a European nuclear research group appears to show that the actual prime cause of temperature shifts in the Earth’s climate isn’t carbon dioxide at all, or even the broader range of “greenhouse gases,” but the large ball of fire in the center of the solar system. Not that this study from CERN has attracted much attention in the media, at least not in the US — but at least Nature reported the results and the implications:
It sounds like a conspiracy theory: ‘cosmic rays’ from deep space might be creating clouds in Earth’s atmosphere and changing the climate. Yet an experiment at CERN, Europe’s high-energy physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland, is finding tentative evidence for just that.
Er, it really doesn’t sound like a conspiracy theory. The notion that the sun heats the planets is rather mundane, or at least it used to be before scientists started claiming that carbon dioxide would superheat the atmosphere. In fact, AGW skeptics have long pointed to solar cycles as a much more likely explanation for the gradual but uneven warming seen over the last century or so.
To find out, Kirkby and his team are bringing the atmosphere down to Earth in an experiment called Cosmics Leaving Outdoor Droplets (CLOUD). The team fills a custom-built chamber with ultrapure air and chemicals believed to seed clouds: water vapour, sulphur dioxide, ozone and ammonia. They then bombard the chamber with protons from the same accelerator that feeds the Large Hadron Collider, the world’s most powerful particle smasher. As the synthetic cosmic rays stream in, the group carefully samples the artificial atmosphere to see what effect the rays are having.

I built a cloud chamber as my 9th grade science project. Over 50 years ago. Got the plans from Scientific Experimenter magazine. Used Radium from an old watch hand as a “ray” source. Didn’t have enough time to build my own Small Hadron Collider! Cloud chambers have been around a long time.
The implied null hypothesis - absent anthropogenic carbon, the planet's climate (not sure a planet can have a climate, but nevermind) - the planet's climate would be invariant, is nonsense.
All lines of inquiry - oceanographic, geologic, climatologic, archaeological, paleontologic - ALL measure HUGE, ENORMOUS, AND NEARLY CONSTANT CHANGE.
So - the minor variations observed in the instrumental period (1850-2011) DO NOT REQUIRE EXPLANATION.
They may have an explanation, and it is possible that the explanation involves humans, but, given the massive data set on prehistoric changes, that is the least likely explanation and therefore validation would require lots and lots of experimental (NOT computer modeled) data, which does not exist.

True that is, but some of us Freepers had surname ancestors that arrived to the New World during the Maunder Minimum. Perhaps that may have been what drove them further south. Scotland was probably very cold back then. Coincidentally, Ireland has just had one of its coldest summers ever.

AGW disproves itself.
Without even coming up with an explanation for what heats the earth, the notion of a positive feedback loop of temperatures and carbon dioxide causing a “latchup” in a stable and permanent too hot climate is disproved by evidence.
AGW theory is dependent on the climate being dominated by positive feedback and that we are always near a “tipping point” away from the “delicate balance”
The oft used phrases in quotes here are based on the assumption that the behavior of the global climate is dominated by positive feedback mechanisms.
The best proof of the error of AGW is that IT HASN’T HAPPENED YET!
We know that historically CO2 levels have been as much as 10 times the current levels. If there was a CO2 tipping point that we could cross that would bake the earth like Venus then it would already happened. The fact that it didn’t happen indicates that negative feedback mechanisms are more dominant and that the Earth’s climate is regulated and kept on a pretty even keel by the negative feedback regulation.
If a 1000% increase in CO2 didn’t trigger global warming, a few percentage points change due to industrialization or whatever won’t kill us either.
I support this science.

Sunspots are caused by magnetic field changes on the sun. Those field changes also tend to shield us from cosmic rays. (Cosmic rays are charged, remember, and charged particles will change their path in a magnetic field.) More sunspots, less cosmic rays. Less sunspots, more cosmic rays.
What the CERN guys have shown is that cosmic rays cause particles to form in the upper atmosphere that seed cloud formation. More clouds increase the earth's "albedo" (reflectivity), lowering surface temperature (b/c more solar radiation is reflected back into space).
Now the progression is:
more sunspots -> fewer cosmic rays -> fewer clouds -> warmer earth
less sunspots -> more cosmic rays -> more clouds -> cooler earth
It's been known for some time that more sunspots seemed to correlate to a warmer climate. This science explains why.

I seem to remember hearing about this before .. and seeing a humungus picture of the Sun on Rush Limbaugh’s website.
The article said something similar about the changes in weather on earth being regulated by the Sun’s activity - when it’s erupting the Sun gets hotter making the earth warmer, and when it subsides - the earth gets cooler. Wow! Only God could have designed that.
If you want to see a great DVD - get “The Priviledged Planet”. It’s amazing. If the earth was just a few degrees in one direction - we’d be a chunk of ice like Mars - and if we were a few degrees the other direction - we’d have been burned up by the Sun.
And .. our position in the universe puts us in the perfect place to be able to view the rest of the universe. This is a great video for kids to learn about the earth and it’s relation to the other planets. I’ve watched it several times, and it still amazes me.
The “green” movement is nothing more than another liberal power grab.
If the liberals can force us to have “green” everything - they will be able to CONTROL OUR WAY OF LIFE!
