Gore urges Obama to block pipeline for 'dirtiest source of fuel on the planet' By Andrew Restuccia - 09/01/11 10:08 AM ET

Former Vice President Al Gore called on President Obama late Wednesday to reject a pending permit application for a controversial pipeline project, calling the oil that it would carry “the dirtiest fuel on the planet.”

“The answer to our climate, energy and economic challenges does not lie in burning more dirty fossil fuels —instead, we must continue to press for much more rapid development of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies and cuts in the pollution that causes global warming,” Gore, a vocal climate activist, wrote on his blog Wednesday night.

The State Department is just months away from a decision on the proposed TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline, which would carry Canadian oil sands from Alberta to refineries on the Texas Gulf coast.

Environmental groups and others have mounted an aggressive opposition campaign to the 1,700-mile proposed pipeline. They’ve staged a two-week protest in front of the White House that has led to hundreds of arrests and put President Obama on notice that a failure to block the project could hurt his reelection campaign.

Gore blasted the project Wednesday, raising concerns about the environmental impact of Canada’s oil sands production, which results in higher greenhouse gas emissions than conventional oil production.

“The tar sands are the dirtiest source of fuel on the planet,” Gore said.

Many Republicans and the oil industry have pressed the administration to approve the project, arguing it will boost the economy. But Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman, a Republican, called on Obama to reject the proposed pipeline Thursday.

A final environmental review released by the State Department last week said there would be “no significant impacts to most resources” along the route if the company adheres to conditions and mitigation measures that pipeline regulators and environmental agencies demand.

Critics of the pipeline blasted the review, arguing it ignores key concerns about the project.

But Energy Secretary Steven Chu hinted this week that he supports the project, arguing in an interview that the country would be better off getting oil from Canada than unstable nations in the Middle East.

The State Department says it hopes to make a final decision on the project by the end of the year.

Liberals don’t examine any issue, nor do they care to, and they are likely to get mad if you make them do so,

beyond the point of “I feel good about myself as a good person for having this opinion on this issue.”

They’re “saving the Erf”, and that makes them a good person.

After an extended period of lying low after his sex poodle shenanigans, Gore now seems to be everywhere all of the time. He's become a mix of flop-sweat, desperation, lunacy, profanity and is on the tipping point between sane and insane. In a nutshell, Gore is losing it.

It will happen, probably first via rail cars. Export terminals already exist.
Synfuels from the Fort McMurry area are the next big thing.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see this admin give the go-ahead to this project and then if reelected yank the permits in 2013.

I agree that is SOP for this bunch. But this issue is not totally domestic. International relations are involved here, and doing so would thoroughly piss-off the Canadians. Since this crowd also worships at the feet of the "global test" it seems they are on the horns of a dilemma.

I wonder if any liberal has ever made a decision on anything using facts instead of emotion. You can always determine if you are speaking with a liberal by listening to the first three words used to start a sentence. “I feel that.....”

The Air is Getting Cleaner: But the Media are Nowhere to be Seen

March 12, 2010

On Wednesday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) quietly released their annual report on air quality trends. You would never know it from picking up a newspaper or reading news websites, but the report contains great news. Air quality in the United States has dramatically improved and, according to all indicators, it will continue to improve.

The Good News—the Air is Getting Cleaner

The report can be summed up with this graphic from EPA:

GDP, vehicle miles traveled, population, and energy consumption have all increased since 1990. But despite the fact that more people are using more energy to produce more goods and services, air pollution emissions have decreased.

Like Jimmy Carter is a blot on GA so is Al and his father to TN. The depth of stupid and worthless of some places is unfathomable. TN seems to have its own special brand at that.

Now that AL Bore has come out against the pipeline, it’s proof that the opposition to it is nuts and against prosperity in the USA. He has been wrong on just about everything and he makes money by buying into these green boondoggles.

I’ll start taking seriously what Gore says about the ‘dirtiest source of fuel on the planet’ when he starts using as little of it as does the average American.

Hey Al Bore...what about the biggest toxic waste superfund in your state of Tennessee,

Right in your own back yark....

That lake where your "daddy taught me to swim and fish"

Toxic tailings from your Zinc mine....I guess all the toxics fried Al's brain.
