Issa, Grassley make good on promise to expand “Fast & Furious” investigation
Hot Air ^ | 9/1/11 | Tina Korbe

Almost immediately after the Justice Department announced a shake-up of the officials who oversaw ATF’s ill-begotten “Operation Fast and Furious,” Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) signaled they wouldn’t let the reassignment of acting ATF director Kenneth Melson slow down their investigation of the questionable program.

Two days later, they’ve already made good on that promise. Today, they sent a letter to Ann Scheel, the acting attorney general in Phoenix, basically putting the Arizona district office on notice and demanding e-mails, memos, notes and other documents from six top officials, including Scheel and ousted former U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke.

“The level of involvement of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona in the genesis and implementation of this case is striking,” the letter states. It continues:

Operation Fast and Furious was a prosecutor-led Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Strike Force case. The congressional investigation has revealed that your office, and specifically Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) Emory Hurley, played an integral role in the day-to-day, tactical management of the case. In fact, Mr. Hurley served as a prosecutor on this case until very recently.

Hurley better get a suit of armor. You never know when there might be a sudden need to commit assisted suicide (ala Vince Foster).

I'd like to hope Grassley will have the courage to stick to his guns on this. But, I am doubtful. He promised the same thing on the Able Danger investigation then hid under his desk.

(he's a beltway insider, you know)

It doesn’t take much in depth analysis to conclude that Obama knew. If he hadn’t, Holder and anyone else responsible would have been fired and prosecuted for the embarrasment and controversy these allegations brought to the White House and Justice dept, ergo Obama knew and probably signed off on it.

I hope it goes at least as high as Holder.

Personally, I would love to see Holder extradited to Mexico and spend the rest of his life in a Mexican prison.

The direction for this is way above Holder's pay grade. The direction clearly comes from 1600 Penn. Ave. There is no other explanation to holds water.

...Yea, I agree I said something similar on another thread acouple of days ago. The whistleblowers will probably become interns for the Drug Cartel and poof! end of story and investigation. The scum will lie and say something stupid, collateral damage or something else...

... I hope Holder and Napolitano fry. BHO, Can't say, but can imagine...

A little off topic. Not a good way to start a new job.
HT CUATF

Today, B. Todd Jones is accompanied into the ATF atrium in HQ by Eric Holder. All of headquarters staff is gathered around. The overflow is sent into other areas to listen and watch a simulcast. Conference call numbers and passwords are sent out nationwide and agents across the country group at their desks and in cubicles with speaker phones on, some on surviellance listening on cell phones. Meetings are rescheduled to be able to listen in. All want to hear the first words of our new Director. But, the technology had not been properly set up or tested. The entire system crashes and is inaffective. Agents everywhere give up and go back to work. Welcome to the ATF we have all come to know and love Mr. Jones.

MSM has to protect the choosen one.

At some point the MSM will have their hands full just protecting their own A$$es. They are in this so deep their very existence requires their lies. Voters have learned to hold them in almost as much contempt as Congress and the Senate.

If anyone is jailed, or even fired for this treasonous operation, I will be shocked.
