SACRAMENTO, CA, September 1, 2011--AB 499, the bill that permits 12 year old children to give consent without their parents' knowledge for vaccines or other medication to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, passed the CA Senate yesterday on a 22-17 vote. The Governor could take action on the bill any time between September 9 and October 9. Ask the governor to veto AB 499. (See how senators voted)
This bill is one of the most egregious violations of parental rights, next to the right to provide abortions for minors without parent knowledge. If it passes, parents will have no right to decide whether or not their child will receive vaccinations that could jeopardize their health. Additionally, children will be approached by Planned Parenthood and other adults encouraging them to be vaccinated to prepare them to become sexually active.
AB 499 is an outrage that must be stopped, but it will take a massive public outcry to do it.
Please ask the governor to veto AB 499 today. It is critical to get others to call as well.
This bill is an end run by the pharmaceutical giant Merck to push their vaccine, Gardasil, on California children at taxpayer's expense. A major public outcry in 2007 killed an effort to make the vaccinations mandatory when Merck proposed it then.
Now, if AB 499 becomes law, children as young as 12 years old will face coercion from adults motivated by profit or other agendas to receive vaccines that they don't need and could be harmful.
The Center for Disease Control has reported deaths of 51 girls and 2 boys after being administered Gardasil, just one of the vaccines covered by this bill. There are many more reports of children maimed for life from the drug. (See http://truthaboutgardasil.org/.) Children are not equipped to evaluate risks and stand up to pressure from adults without the support of their parents. Former Merck researcher, Dr. Diane Harper says, It is silly to mandate vaccination of 11- to 12-year-old girls... There also is not enough evidence gathered on side effects to know that safety is not an issue."
It is time for parents and anyone who cares about the welfare of Californias children to mobilize," said CCG Chair William B. May. "Lets flood the governor's office with phone calls and letters. Governor Jerry Brown to veto AB 499. It is bad healthcare policy, and an attack on the rights of parents and the rights of children to have the protection and guidance of their parents."
Welcome to Rick Perry's Bilderger Approved New Amerika
Rick Perry reverses himself, calls HPV vaccine mandate a mistake http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/rick-perry-reverses-himself-calls-hpv-vaccine-mandate-a-mistake/2011/08/16/gIQAM2azJJ_story.html
It is OK to make a mistake and take steps to correct it.
Perry’s over all record is prolife and free market conservative. He has the resume that we need to win.

If you truly have Conservative Principals, it wouldn't even enter your mind to try to force a law like this down the throats of Free people in a Free society.
Here’s a video of Rick Perry explaining why he sidelined his states legislature and imposed Big Government health mandates on 6th grade little girls.
TX Gov. Rick Perry said his Exec. Order on HPV vaccine for girls was because of his PRO-LIFE stance (WTF?! Is he serious?!)
CA is saying parents don’t need to be informed, is that what Perry tried to do?
California is saying you don’t need to get parental consent for the vaccine. Perry said “you don’t get a choice. Whether you want it or not, when you get to 6th grade, you have to get it.”
So there was no "opt-out"?
“12 year old children to give consent without their parents’ knowledge for vaccines or other medication to prevent sexually transmitted diseases”
Sounds like a foot in the door for NAMBLE. They wont give up
until their in little kids pants. Liberals are truly sick
This is sick. 12 year olds are too young to be making these decisions. Parents should make them. This vaccine is a) dangerous, and b) doesn’t protect against most of the forms of the disease.
I don’t think so, but I don’t live in Texas, and didn’t follow it that closely.
and now that they have a vaccine for BOYS I’m sure many who wanted it forced on little girls will now suddenly, get a change of heart.....now that their little boys might have to get vaccinated....
Parents Rights. The Department of State Health Services will, in order to protect the right of parents to be the final authority on their childrens health care, modify the current process in order to allow parents to submit a request for a conscientious objection affidavit form via the Internet while maintaining privacy safeguards under current law.
CA isn't involving parents at all. A 12 yo's direct consent bill is perverse and government interference of the worst kind.
Those of us in San Diego need to be aware and spread the word Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, a GOP candidate for mayor in 2012, voted YES on AB 499.

And there you have it with the Perry bashers - they just don't know, but they heard something so they "think so". There was an opt out from the beginning so anyone who objected did not have to comply with the "edict".
Well, except for those he doesn't feel are worthy of protecting.
