A top tea party organizing group, FreedomWorks, is planning to protest Mitt Romney’s appearance this weekend at a New Hampshire stop of a bus tour intended to encourage tea party sympathizers to participate in the Republican presidential nominating process.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, is among the leading candidates for the GOP presidential nomination but is viewed warily by tea party activists, who believe him to be insufficiently conservative and particularly blame him for the Massachusetts state health care overhaul he signed into law.

This is great! I wish I could be there! This is exactly what tea partiers need to do, is show that where there is progressivism in the republican party, we will oppose it!

(To moderators, this counts as activism, correct?)

You should ask yourself why Romney is even being given a platform for his RINOism by the TPX. I haven’t got a straight answer yet from the TPX people on this board.

Someone in the Tea Party Express organization is selling out.

This is precisely why the TEA party must remain an organization without a central leadership. Both liberals and establishment republicans know how to manipulate central leadership.

Perhaps they can be salvaged. Here is who to contact for general questions and comments: info@teapartyexpress.org

We might not want to stop his free speech rights. If he has been given a spot to speak, then he should be allowed to do so. Protesting him during the speech seems to also be a free speech issue.

The TEA Party Express folks were very good in the run up to the 2010 election in alerting the country to the dangers of Obama socialism.

I am not happy they gave RINO Romney a venue, but maybe they felt taking a stand before the primary season would not be a good idea. They still represent a lot of the best of conservatism, so I’ll give them a pass on the Romney gaff.

Romney can give his free speech anywhere he wants to.

If he is allowed to give it under a Tea Party Express banner, clearly a photo-op, then it is a tacit endorsement of Romney by the Tea Party Express.

My issue is with the Tea Party Express. It is salvagable. Mitt Romney is not salvagable.

I’d like about 5 minutes face to face to discuss the issues, the squirming and spinning would be fun to watch.

On the other hand, it’s a little hard for the TPX to pick and choose candidates who can speak on their tour when their end destination is a GOP primary debate that they’re cohosting.

I suspect a number of tea party leaders have sold out. (Starting with the good ol’ Texas boy Dick Armey with his Freedomworks organization.)

Neither Perry nor Romney are legitimate ‘tea partiers’ IMO.

The whole point of the tea party was that we were sick and tired of what the GOP was doing so we wanted to get straight back to first principles. Instead it has turned into another GOP organization.
