National Grid president in Hawaii when Irene hit

**SNIP**

As they worked, the company’s leader was under fire for not being in town when Tropical Storm Irene battered the area.

“When we heard that the president of the company went off to Hawaii we were a little concerned,” said David Leonardi, Local 369 President.

Last Friday workers received a memo that said all vacations were canceled due to Irene, but a day before the memo was sent, the company’s president in Massachusetts, Marcy Reed, took off for a Hawaiian vacation.

“It’s no way to demonstrate leadership. It’s not what we expect. Certainly what our members don’t expect, kinda shocking,” said Leonardi.

But, Reed said she tried to get back as soon as possible.

No people ability. Check
Corrupt? Probable check.
No technical ability. Probable check.

What does this union hag think, that this executive should have been out there fixing cables and transformers himself? It’s the 21st century, you union Vogons, an executive can do his job from anywhere on the planet most of the time.

Although I agree with you in principle and practicality... after team-building, a leader’s main job is to motivate and inspire. This kind of action in the face of potential catastrophe (and cancelation of everyone else’s plans) is detrimental to the mission.

Still no power here, going on 6 days now. This is from a tropical storm that hit 180 miles away. With this sort of response, if we get an actual hurricane that hits on target, we would be out of power for six months. A totally inept response to this storm, and of course we have no competition from a free market system in this liberal hell hole. Just the liberals claiming they know whats best for us. Idiot’s, all of them!

She was on the radio on Tuesday night. People were actually calling in praising her for being so brave taking calls. She was totally clueless! She claimed that the town I live in was one of the hardest hit which is complete baloney. She had no idea when anyone would have their power back and kept saying probably by Sunday. We didn’t see a National G rid truck until Wednesday morning and finally had our power restored that evening.

I disagree. If you cancel my vacation plans because of the storm, then your vacation should be put off also. Its called leadership.

That Patriot's game was pretty well lit, though.

“If you cancel my vacation plans because of the storm, then your vacation should be put off also. Its called leadership.”

I think it’s as a bad assumption to think the guy was still “on vacation” while the storm was happening as it was for the left wing media to assume Bush was just “on vacation” down in Crawford. I don’t have any doubt that he had to put his plans aside and tend to the situation, which I’m sure he was perfectly able to do from Hawaii.

I guess he could have flown over to the East coast just to be seen so people wouldn’t get the wrong impression, but I wouldn’t call that leadership. More like posturing and PR.

This has nothing to do with Bush. This has to do with leadership. This person knew the storm was headed their way and took off before it got there while cancelling everyone else’s vacation. Piss Poor Leadership.

Its OK for them to have their Hawaiian vacation while the other workers do 12 hour or more days. Sorry but that dog don’t hunt!
