It's the twilight, he thought. I hate the twilight...He glanced back. The white rectangle stood above the roofs, saying in immovable finality: September 2.
Oh: Atlas Shrugged on DVD Nov. 19. Liberals hate it. That's all you need know.
WooHoo! It’s been on my Netlix que...just waiting ever so patiently.
Many more people should have gone to see it, but the word was out that it was a bomb.
I will definitely buy the DVD, and I hope that they will decide to make Part 2.
Ah, the reasoning used in 2006 to get freepers to donate to Joe LIEberman.
Pt 2 should be out in the fall of 2012 (just around the time of you know what), Proud Producers say.
When this film “bombed” (after ignorant slamming by the drive-by media), my facebook all had liberals doing their schadenfreude bit. We may still get the last laugh.
I am going to buy several copies of this movie, for each and every democrat family member and conservative family member. I am going to be “Atlas Gifts” this christmas season!
Can you pre-order on Amazon yet?
I wanna buy from there just to piss off California!
I checked amazon; nothing yet but may change. It may still be in “sign in to be informed when this will be released” mode.
I assume amazon and local/national retailers will stock it.
Saw it on the big screen and really enjoyed it...would love to see part two.
oops, I mean Nov 8 is release date. Admin mod, could you change title to Atlas Shrugged Pt 1 DVD out Nov 8 if
>>DVD’s will begin arriving on release day, November 8th, 2011.
same here, first showing of the first day—and at a theatre just one town from me
Is this a definite maybe on the release? I thought it was supposed to come out on tax day - 2012.
I personally can’t wait & I hate going to the movies.
Saw it in a theater and the place was packed.
I am going to be Atlas Gifts this christmas season!
Santa Shruggs. !
“This really was a solid movie”
It wasn’t as bad as people said, but it’s at the level of okay TV movie at best.
Saw the movie twice, once on opening day and then another time. Read the book since then. Can’t wait to buy the DVD.
DVD of Pt 1 Nov 8 and Pt 2 in theatres in Nov of 12 right from the film’s producers
Pt 2 site (bare bones) http://www.atlasshruggedpart2.com/
Supposedly prod. on part 2 to begin this month
Thanks, just pre- ordered
Timely. Corporations are sitting on hordes of cash right now instead of hiring or investing. The economic movers have definitely gone Galt. The best thing Obama could do for the economy is to quietly go away.
Good news. The move is coming out in DVD format.
Cool! I hope it becomes a sleeper phenomenon!
Waiting patiently????Are you NUTS? I intend to get in line Tuesday morning after I enjoy the long weekend.
It is still mild out so the tent will be comfortable.
Maybe I’ll even re-read the book itself for the 9th time.
LOL! No, no, no. I mean the title has been patiently waiting in my Netflix queue, since it came out. I wish I could get it yesterday! It wasn’t playing anywhere near me, so I have to wait on Netflix. I might make an exception and actually purchase a copy when it comes out, but I have time to ponder and save up for it. (yes, even an extra 20 bucks for me requires saving up for.)
I spoke with the distributor, Rocky Mountain Pics, a few days ago and he thinks they are definitely making part 2. I had hoped to get the trailer for “Rockin’ the Wall” on this, but we’re too late. Maybe we’ll get our new documentary, “Other Walls 2 Fall,” on part 2.
The Passion of the Christ was ridiculed and ignored by the MSM, too. It cost $30 million to make and grossed $611,899,420 because Christians watched in droves anyway.
By contrast, Atlas Shrugged cost $20 million to make and earned $4,627,375, despite being marketed as a "tea party film" and being hyped endlessly on forums like this.
Maybe it's just conservatives and tea party supporters aren't buying the Ayn Rand kool-aid.
THat’s the good side of a movie bombing. If a movie does really bad in theatres, it shows up a lot quicker on DVD.
Today is the anniversary date that the story begins.
Kewl! That’s my birthday and I now know what I’m giving myself this year...LOL
Yay! I just checked my e-mail and got the notice about it!
Can we be sure?
Day news of DVD release came out: Sept 2 (when book starts)
Day DVD will be released: Nov 8, 2011 (off yr ELECTION DAY.
2012 elec will be 11/6)
Coming soon to DVD. YAY!
Thanks for the info. I’ve added a note to my calendar to remind me to buy it then.
Arrived today, watched it already.
I think most of the bad reviews that aren’t ideology driven are related to the fact that those loved the novel had a vision of the characters that was as strong as their attachment to the book. As a result, anything that doesn’t match that vision grates.
I, apparently, had a vision that matched that of the producers. I think Taylor’s a wonderful Dagny and I think Grant’s fine too. I didn’t see any obvious cheapness in the production, and I thought the effects were adequate. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Trying to find the balance between Ayn’s constant preaching and the temptation to just do a simplistic soap-opera-type narrative is a very difficult task, and I think they walked that line very well.
All in all, worth the wait, and I look forward to part 2.
I saw it in the theater, and my blu-ray just arrived today. I also downloaded it from iTunes and just now finished watching it on my iPod.
I got so much more the second time. Will watch it again this weekend with my Dad, who finally just finished the book.
I really like it. I love the casting. Apart from Dagny not having black hair, I have no quibbles. I do think, though, that it would be very difficult for somebody that hasn’t read the book. But I think the producers decided that this was OK. This movie is for fans.
I agree that fans will pick up more on the first viewing. I think it’s a really good adaptation, which is defined as one that stands alone for those who didn’t read the book, while not leaving those who know it saying, “what happened to my book”?
I also saw Dagny as dark haired. Bridget Moynahan would have worked well for me. Which reminds me, there’s a great Bill Goldman (if memory serves) story about writing a screenplay in which he described the character as brunette, and having the studio take a pass because they wanted something for their blonde actress. Repeated attempts to convince them that all he had to do was change the description of the character fell on deaf ears.
I’m pretty sure that Dagny was described as having jet-black straight hair. It would have been easy enough to outfit Taylor Schilling with black hair, and for whatever reason they chose not to. I can live with it. Schilling did a splendid job in the role.
I think casting Grant Bowler as Rearden was excellent.
BUMP TO THE TOP!!!
I’ll be buying a copy today! If nothing else for support of the entire idea of the book.
I’m fully invested in the franchise now... Got the bracelet, the blu-ray, the iTunes video, and the soundtrack... Haven’t got the t-shirt, but likely will. I’m voting with my dollars, for sure.
I’m anxious for part 2... and 3...
Just picked it up at Redbox, and am finally watching it!
