MONROE TWP, New Jersey, September 2, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Two books, one containing an explicit depiction of statutory lesbian rape, and the other a homosexual orgy, have been ousted from a local high school by outraged New Jersey parents.
The texts, “Norwegian Wood” and “Tweak: Growing up on Methamphetamines,” originally appeared on the summer reading list for both middle school and high school students at Monroe Township schools this year.
“Norwegian Wood,” a novel by Haruki Murakami, includes a graphic depiction of a 31-year-old woman raping a 13-year-old girl, while “Tweak,” a story about addiction, describes a homosexual orgy scene as well as the details of drug use.
The books, school officials say, were included on the list by a group of teachers, librarians, and administrators, and approved by the board of education. Chuck Earling, superintendent of Monroe Township Schools in Williamstown, N.J., told Fox News that the committee “didnt feel it was inappropriate based on the language thats used, common language used on the street.
However, after outrage from local parents, the district yanked the books, and Earling apologized. We were not trying to create controversy. We were just trying to get students to read,” he said.
The Family Research Council’s Peter Sprigg told Fox that the affair was a lesson to parents to keep watch over what their kids are reading in schools. Here we see the intersection of parental values being offended, the hyper-sexualization of our youth and the homosexual agenda being pushed, Sprigg told Fox News Radio.
Exposing children to graphic sexual content that is not as evil as censorship in the minds of some left-wing activists.
Books exploring the homosexual lifestyle have been making their way into public schools across America in recent years, particularly in states where same-sex “marriage” has been legalized.
In 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a Massachusetts father’s plea to opt-out his kindergartener from listening to homosexual children’s books, or at least to be notified of the objectionable material.
A California law signed by Gov. Jerry Brown in June mandates that textbooks in pubic schools statewide teach children about the role and contributions of homosexual American historical figures, and forbids materials that contain any matter reflecting adversely upon gays on the basis of sexual identification.. The law is automatically on hold after conservatives leaders launched a referendum effort to put the textbook question before California voters.
Stick with the classics ... they not only encourage reading but also teach solid values.
This is a sick outrage!!! I’d love to homeschool to avoid this rubbish but I am not able to do that. I guess I’ll have to stock up on plenty of Pepcid & beta blockers and get ready for a fight once my kid starts school. Ugh.
It is high time parents become involved in what their kids are exposed to in government schools. In fact it was time 40 years ago!
The Gramscian culture sabateurs never rest.
Nothing like reinforcing the gutter!
Except they’re banning many of the “classics”, too.
“Huck Finn” has been banned in a lot of districts in favor of the inferior “To Kill a Mockingbird”.
Support school choice. Get this passed, and only the democrat kids will be indoctrinated into this type of behavior.
Help the other kids to escape. Some parents can't afford to save their kids from being taught this type of left wing bile. They need our help.
If you can’t take two or three hours a day to homeschool your child, taken you are a real loser. If you are a paraplegic, or blind or mentally disabled, forgive me. There is always Saturday and Sunday, too, you know.
Maybe they should try some science fiction.
So they purged the titles from the summer reading list...after summer is over? Damage is already done, sue and fire those responsible.
Not to comment on the contents of the article - where does one even start? - people seem to scramble to get books for kids to read, when the classics are not only good for the reasons you mentioned, but they are necessary, for pretty much the same reasons.
That said, it is my experience that kids, when introduced to the characters in the original classics (not the rewritten versions), actually tend to enjoy the stories.
Kids miss out on so many character studies when they skip the classics, which could be the goal.
Of course, the school in question and the district has some social agenda and are beyond help. They don’t even see it.
What do they expect? They don’t speak out when the gay agenda is pushed through legislature, TV, and everywhere else. Everyone’s afraid to be called an intolerant bigot. Too cowardly to speak out. So this is where we are.
And the teachers just march along to the drumbeat of Leftism like stupefied tools.
Can’t imagine what authority is going to oversee moral development and prosecute on those grounds. It probably should happen that way, but. . .
Parents are the primary educators of their children, whether we want to believe it or not.
Until parents take back control this will continue.

We come a long way from “Heather has two mommies.”
We come a long way from Heather has two mommies.
But...but....the homos said all they wanted was tolerance. Just tolerance. Nothing more. They just wanted to live in peace behind their own closed doors.
Isn't it time America changed it's mind about "tolerance"? Maybe the mental institutions really were a good idea.
Drove past a school this morning and saw a fire drill in process. The teachers (all of the adults, anyway) were wearing faded blue jeans and polo or t-shirts.
I wonder how kids can naturally respect that.
BTW - Pedophiles are starting to demand the same rights as homosexuals. They're going the same route to get it. This book is designed to set the stage for pedophile "tolerance", and then we all know what comes next.
This has nothing to do with learning how to read. It has everything to do with getting kids to accept it. The left is planting the seed. They're the generation that will be voting on Pedophilia tolerance.
It's called "casual Friday."

Your post was rather rude but I will respond because I refuse to allow baseless name-calling to go unchecked.
I am a single mother. My child’s father left us when she was 18 months old. Because he’s a prominent surgeon, the courts will not allow me to leave the area with his child. I do not have family close by. My parents live over an hour away & I have no siblings. I work full time. If you have a suggestion as to how I could arrange to homeschool my daughter while I work, let’s hear it. Shall I leave her home alone with our family cat??
I believe you owe me an apology.
There is no reason for those books to be on reading lists for kids.
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
No proper outrage is outrageous..
Where are the pitchforks and torches..
But then there’s nobody to blame or a reason to be angry.
I think what casually dressed teachers don’t realize is that the kids’ parents won’t respect them if they are dressed casually.
Nor can the kids. They do have thoughts and impressions.
Hm? Where are the “good” teachers?
My conclusion: There are none. There are merely evil teachers and timid, hypocritical, and sniveling Useful Idiots who collect paychecks and pensions wrongly believing they are sprinkling a little “salt and light” around.
Homeschooling associations have had plenty of experience with all sorts of difficult situations and may be able to give you some workable ideas.
Homeschoolers will tell you that it takes less than one to two hours in formal homeschooling for a young child. You are likely spending that much time already reviewing school homework, textbooks, and reading material, and undoing the damage done by the school each day. And...As they grow older they literally homeschool themselves with merely general supervision from the parent.
You have already been homeschooling your child since she was born. That is what good mothering is. And ...If here dad left you when she was 18 months, it is likely that you worked when she was a pre-schooler. Was she in day care then? If you could afford it then, why not now?
My suggestion: Find a trusted day care provider for her ( you have likely had them in the past) and remove her from government school. Then homeschool in the mornings, evenings, and weekends.
By the way,....I knew one single homeschooling mom who took in a trusted roommate. While her slept she went to work and the roommate ( as part of the rent sharing deal) kept a eye on the child if there was a problem at night.
The one problem I see with your situation is that her dad may object.
We were not trying to create controversy. We were just trying to get students to read, he said.” ( Chuck the superintendent)
Chucky I believe you when you say that you weren't trying to create controversy. You were merely pushing the envelope of decency ...AGAIN! Chucky, you and your Gramscian fellow Useful Idiots have been doing that for more than a century now.
As for the “We were just trying to get the students to read”...Well...Chucky, you nose is growing.
By the way,...Chucky, I'd bet my entire 401K that you are a homosexual. Homos hire homos, and there are a LOT of them in the government schools now.
There are no good government teachers. There are merely evil teachers and Useful Idiots.

Gutsy post, Wintertime...even if you are right.
Idiot parents who lay down with dogs should complain about the fleas...
I do apologize to you. I, too, was a single mother with three daughters 12, 9 and 2. My ex would not pay child support either. Homeschooling wasn’t done in those days (the’60’s) but I was aware of the shortcomings in the schools system even then. I, too, worked full time - sometimes seven days a week as a matter of fact, but I augmented the girl’s education, American history in particular. I was a member of PTA for seventeen years, and my girls were all Camp Fire Girls. The school Social Studies book contained one paragraph about Abraham Lincoln! So if parents read the text books, they could somehow fill in the blanks. Those were the years of the new math, too, (which was only confusing!)so I helped teach them the old method.
Most parents of school aged children were educated in government schools themselves. Today the psychological damage caused to young children by sex ed and homosexual tolerance being taught to kindergartners is utterly outrageous!
If I had it to do today, because the schools are so much worse than they were then, I would figure out some way I could home school them even if it had to be after dinner and on the weekends.
I really do realize how difficult it can be, but your child is worth everything you can do to help her, and of course you want the best for your sweet baby. Good luck to you and to all young mothers today.

You may want to try this. There are excellent, accredited private schools by online/correspondence. Get together with some stay-at-home mothers and have the kids all work off these programs. You could kick in some money to help the stay-at-home mothers. I’ve seen it work here where I live.
I wish all the gays and lesbians would go the hell back into their closets!
This includes some of my nieces and nephews.
They add nothing to their own lives or ours by being “out” and in our faces.
I have really had it with them.
No more tolerance from me!
Even though I have no more “school-age” children, it doesn’t stop me from praying for those who do.
Of course, as I “learned” in the English department as an English major, Moby Dick (Ishmael and Queequeg) and Shakespeare and a lot of other classics are really about homosexuality.
They see what they want to see. They just want it to be actually there for once, and that’s why they are pushing these disgusting novels. The Color Purple is becoming popular too, a lot of people don’t recognize its lesbian paganistic agenda.
To Kill a Mockingbird is actually a great book. My question is why not read both?
Harper Lee’s book is indeed great, but Twain’s book, IMO, is better, transcendent.
I agree with you. Read both.
Nothing like preparing little boys to engage in the healthy practice of fecal consumption. If only homowood would show these perverts for what they are—it ain’t the will and Grace show.
Big news here: male homos are pedophiles—it is their primary obession. IN ancient Rome they were allowed to own, trade, and sell young boys.
You gotta read this article, the author ties together the homo-agenda movement with pedophilia and some comments have more info. That’s why homosexuals have always been called “pederasts”. The very word “homosexual” was invented by a - well, a sodomy practitioner in the latter half of the 19th century in order to create a sense of community and identity.

Sexual Anarchy
Townhall.com ^ | September 3, 2011 | Matt Barber
Classics I knew while growing up were fun books to read like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Swiss Family Robinson, Treasure Island, Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Great Expectations, and so on. I also liked the early film adaptations of these books as well, the actors chosen were quite the entertaining bunch.
Nowadays, they needed to edit what Mark Twain wrote to sound less racist, or require kids to read books like the raunchy “Ragtime” by E.L. Doctorow, I read a review of the book alone, and it made me pretty disappointed that this was material for kids. If there’s any decent message about sexuality to explain to teens, it’s that sex is something that isn’t as big as it’s made out to be. Easily less than 1% of a married person’s life is spent doing it with one’s spouse.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn reveals a lot about the way things were during the time period. Racism and the slurs used in the original book were common to the time. As the book is fiction, it’s also a teaching tool about how things were in pre-civil war America, as Mark Twain certainly included reflections of the time period in what he wrote. Racism was bad, but trying to sugar-coat what happened is worse. At least when I was in about sixth grade, when we discussed Huckleberry Finn as part of our lesson in History, we admitted and discussed the factual aspect of how racism was, and how we can get better from it. It was similar when we read the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” in 7th grade English, there was plenty to think about how history was, and how we can live differently now. Again, nothing irritates me more than the refusal of numerous people to reflect about the way history was, sure there was bad things that happened, but instead of simply condemn it, how about thinking how you can live differently. Again, reflection is more important than reaction.
Tolerance is the vehicle used to bring about change through judicial activism as a prelude to the new intolerance.
I don’t care what I have to sacrifice. If God blesses me with kids, they will be home or Catholic schooled. Unbelievable.
