Direct Link Between Anti-Military Film and Dead Soldiers – Will Hollywood Notice?
Big Government ^ | September 1st, 2011 | Christian Toto

We have a direct tie between an anti-war film and the murder of two U.S. soldiers. So … will the media cover the story?

“Redacted” by Brian de Palma (“The Untouchables,” “Scarface”) cast U.S. soldiers as racist, violent thugs. The film flopped in spectacular fashion, earning $65,388 for its entire theatrical run. Apparently, audiences weren’t too keen on seeing the men and women of the Armed Forces smeared.

But “Redacted” impacted Arid Uka, a Balkan Muslim who saw the film and went on to kill two U.S. Air Force servicemen in March. Uka told a judge this week he was inspired by “the movie’s graphic depiction of U.S. soldiers raping a girl in Iraq,” says The Daily Caller citing a BBC report.

The men killed were Senior Airman Nicholas Alden, age 25, and Airman 1st Class Zachary Cuddeback, aged 21.

The Daily Caller reached out to “Redacted” producer Jason Kliot for comment. What Kliot says is both stunning in its shallowness and so nakedly partisan even Ed Schultz might balk at saying it.

“I’m terribly sorry to hear that, but I don’t understand how my movie would impel anyone to commit murder,” he said. “I don’t see how people would be made to commit acts of violence [after watching “Redacted”], any more than they would for watching Fox News.”

Will de Palma be asked to comment by the press? How about Mark Cuban, who also helped produce the film?

Ultimately, the price of having artistic freedom means writers and directors can say what they want to say via film, television and music. But it sure would help if those same artists gave serious thought to the ramifications of their content, especially material specifically designed to impugn a population.

That the people that made redacted and those that backed it lost money is terrific.
That it cost 2 real Americans their lives is a crime.

Let me guess that HBO or Showtime airs it every other weekend?

Ummm, time to get a grip folks. I don’t buy the argument fuzzy-headed-liberal defense attorney’s make that a MOVIE “made” their client do the crime...

I don’t care how lying and inaccurate that movie was....as most movies involving history—ARE grossly inaccurate. However the movie makers are no more responsible for this crazy’s actions, than the gun shop (which I assume is no responsibility at all)where he lawfully bought the gun. Let’s get real!

So, how many of our Servicemen raped girls in Iraq? I would hazard a guess, NONE.

DePalma uses the typical Libtard tactic of Projection to attack our Military Personnel and has no qualms when his wet dreams cause real world casualties.

After all, he is an “artist” doncha know.

Congratulations Hollywood! You went from patriotic leading men like Jimmy Stewart and Ronald Reagan to turncoat commies like Sean Penn and Matt Damon. Thanks for also sapping morale on the home front and giving succor to our throwback enemies, (not to mention 40 years of corrupting our youth and undermining our society in general.) Thanks Hollywood.

Meanwhile, the commie libs love to whine about pi**ing off the muzzies by waterboarding the terrorists. IIRC, the commie libs said that the “torture” would cause American military people to be killed. De Palma, Kliot and Cuban need their asses thrown in jail for accessory to murder.

People are very susceptible to visual imagery...it's how and why propaganda works. I'm going to assume for argument's sake you don't read Hangul, yet if you were driving in the outskirts of Seoul and saw this...

...not only would you instantly grasp the meaning, it would elicit an immediate and specific physical response (i.e., you stepping on the brake pedal).

I'm not saying that to obviate the shooter's role or responsibility in this case; however, I think an equally narrow view would be held by those who would altogether dismiss the movie maker's role in this. The movie maker(s) clearly wanted to elicit an anti-war, anti-military attitude and response. This one just got a little beyond their control.

Lame. He could have easily been influenced by any chapter in the Qu'ran.

And violent video games are responsible for hundreds of violent deaths....riiiiight?

Well I never heard of the film that came out in 2007. So I did a box office mojo search of the film and see that it was only shown in 15 theaters. Perhaps this movie was not meant for a movie as big as Transformers who is seen on over 3000 theaters. I am glad that I did not know about or watched the movie but at least they should mention how many theaters showed the movie in the article.

I saw Redacted on HDNet (Mark Cuban's cable channel). Cuban bankrolled DePalma to get this movie made. It was awful--just a really bad movie, full of factual errors, poorly made, low budget, badly written, poorly directed, just bad, period.

Cuban was hellbent on getting this movie made. It looked like a Pallywood propaganda film. The blood is on Cuban's and DePalma's hands.
