MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he opposes a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.
Speaking to hundreds of New Hampshire voters at a private reception Saturday afternoon, the Texas governor says a fence would be ineffective and take too long to build.
The comments, which produced one angry shout, expose a rift with some conservative voters over Perry's immigration record. Tea party activists in Texas have been particularly upset by his steady opposition to the fence. He also signed a law giving illegal immigrants in-state tuition for Texas universities.

We need land mines on the border. Not a fence. Land mines. Word will get out quickly and we will see an end to the problem.

For voters who want Shamnesty, open borders, more free schooling, medical care and other handouts for illegals - Perry is the man to vote for.

Bring V Corp home! Give them the mission of securing the border. Shouldn't take more than a month.

What the anti-Perry people don’t tell you is the rest of the story, that Perry wants “boots on the ground”, National Guard troops on the border, because that is more effective than a fence.

The fence is useless. We need land mines and/or troops on the border.

That is enough for me. Immigration control is pivotal for our future existence. This is one issue that ranks with abortion (for me) as a deal breaker. This tells me he is either not listening or is playing nice with the Rino’s and Rat’s.

Funny this should get mentioned yet again...instate tuition & ALSO GRANT MONEY. Just reading over the lawsuit challenging giving TX. “RESIDENTS” INSTATE TUITION. Lawyer is doing good so far in that the courts are not dismissing. He may very well cut out the revenue stream for this treasonous bill.
I hope Sara will run. she would NEVER DO THIS CRAP....PERIOD!

With Mexican troops available for the job I see no reason to send American boys out to shoot men, women and children trying to slip into the country.
Just make a deal and hire the Mexican army. They know where to look.

I'm in the minority here, but “The Fence” is a terrible, statist idea. Not only will it be a big government boondoggle, the border is private property and many of the owners not only do not WANT the fence, but they own property on the other side.
Flame away.
To: Perdogg

The modern Texas economy depends on Mexican laborers the way the old Georgia economy depended on African laborers. Perry doesn’t want to disrupt that relationship nor do the short sighted individuals that pay for his political success. I lived in Texas and I voted for Perry once. I don’t necessarily want to do either of those two things again.

How are unarmed National Guard troops more effective than a border fence? I’m retired from the National Guard, I’ve been deployed and pulled guard duty. This is typical RINO BS.
I’m sick and tired of politicians ceding US territory to a bunch of corrupt Mexican narco-terrorist-groups.

are you sure we haven’t talked? Ive been saying that for years. Find a heavily trafficked area and sew it with land mines akin to the DMZ. Then sit back and watch. That would solve the problem immediately.
But mines, as well as a fully complete 100% fence/wall, military/natl guard/manned presence. It really isn’t that hard.
If a genie came to Obama tomorrow and said “if you fully secure the border by thanksgiving, you’ll win in 2012+regain the house and a 60 seat senate” he’d have it done well before thanksgiving

Why would anyone say that? If you are not a immigration absolutist like me and you think it is a waste of money, well the US government wastes lots of money on things a majority of the public does not want.
In this case a sizable number and maybe even a majority of the public want this fence. That Perry says no on this cause me to wonder about his judgement particularly since he is a former Dim office holder.

You have no clue what it would take to build a fence a long the TX-Mexico border!
It's 1200 to 1500 miles long...and all kinds of terrain. Have you ever been to Big Bend?
It would be a stupid waste of $$$...and wouldn't work!

Somebody tell me where Herman Cain stands on the issue of the fence/wall, I prefer wall.
I wish Cain were better known, as is, he has very little chance, maybe even that he’s a “fringe” candidate.
Perhaps a post in the new administration that has to do with “home land security”, I certainly like his views on muslims.
