Perry tells NH no to border fence

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he opposes a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.

Speaking to hundreds of New Hampshire voters at a private reception Saturday afternoon, the Texas governor says a fence would be ineffective and take too long to build.

The comments, which produced one angry shout, expose a rift with some conservative voters over Perry's immigration record. Tea party activists in Texas have been particularly upset by his steady opposition to the fence. He also signed a law giving illegal immigrants in-state tuition for Texas universities.

There were about 30 Mexican Army just last month who drove their humvees across the Donna international bridge but claimed they were lost when they got caught. We did nothing but point them south.

Riiiight, and I’m the toothfairy.

It’s an amazing thing ain’t it. Before 0bama I didn’t give it much thought but you know, his dictator wannabe personality makes me nervous about having a border wall now.

I agree completely. People are letting their anger talk so loud their brains can’t think. There are tunnels now so there will be tunnels where ever a fence is built. Patrols with the power of enforcement and a foreign workers visa allowing a specific type of employment and time of stay need to be available and controlled by the Federal Government as States make their needs for workers known to the Government slots can come available.

The states all need to decide to get behind enforcing the laws we have and identifying illegal visitors, deporting them into their countries - far beyond the border by plane. While squatters from abroad are being empowered by liberals to stay and demand benefits, accommodations in our schools and workplaces, free medical care and monetary support they will flood any barrier that can be built. The Berlin wall was to keep Berliners in not foreigners out.

I agree with Perry, Americans need to stand together as a country and deport people who are not willing to make their legal commitment to America, speak our language and uphold our values of religious freedom, freedom of speech and civic responsibility. Any foreign worker should have his/her visa revoked and be deported if a crime is committed by them or if they are unable to find a job. No welfare. No more anchor babies, parents need to be green card holders to get citizenship for their children.

———there are tunnels.-——

Source please.

Where are there tunnels under the wall?

Where is there a wall along a river border?

Trust me, I know that terrain. The problem with putting a fence out there is you still need somebody to guard the fence. Immigration enforcement inside this country is the way to stop it.

I don't mind having a guest worker program for certain industries, but that doesn't mean bringing the whole family. When a legal immigrant shows up they have to be able to support themselves and the illegals get a pass.

In the meantime the two governments collude to sucker literally millions out into the desert southwest into some of the most dangerous terrain around. There they are fleeced by "coyotes", held captive by smugglers, and killed by violence or the elements.

It’s our border. We are a sovereign nation. Illegals are running over our border. It’s time to do something serious.

Let’s quit jugging the hot potato and deal with the issue. We graduate over 50,000 illegal aliens a year from our public high schools.

HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? It’s bull... pucky.

The Berlin Wall worked...

at keeping people imprisoned. Is that what you want?

Please don't be silly. You know we're talking about the physical effectiveness of a wall here, not the political decisions for the wall.

They’re sympathetic but becoming less so all the time.

Several years ago they let some 1500 illegals from Mexico into Windsor from Detroit on a temporary basis while things were sorted out. They’re still there.

Fences aren't the only solution, or even the best solution, for the entire border.

Agree 100%.

Illegal immigrants are a huge problem, and FWIW I strongly disagree with Perry on in-state tuition for illegals.

That said, a fence across our entire Southern border is just a feel-good solution that will cost an unbelievable amount of money and won't actually get the job done.

Liberals are notorious for those. Conservatives should be better than that.

see #91

You couldn't travel the border between TX & Mexico, much less build a fence.

I went through Checkpoint Charlie...what made the Berlin Wall work was the armed guards in guard houses along the wall ready to shoot...and did.

It was built in the city to split East from West Berlin...and was built to keep people in, not to keep people out.

We need a physical barrier because the politicians WILL NEVER EVER ENFORCE IMMIGRATION LAWS. The nation is corrupt.

How about a fence and NO foreign worker visa. We have a high unemployment rate. Seems to me this is a shovel ready project and jobs for Americans.

Why is it you guys keep coming up with this foreign worker visa business? Just pay the help.

not accurate. she is the only way to state explicitly that they will be deported if they cannot follow the rules. Since it is clear she is “not for sale” there is no motivation for her to back an amnesty plan. Perry has a record of avoiding this issue. She also spoke out against the DREAM ACT on Ellis Island.
Perry sucks on this issue everyone knows it and Americans are pissed off! We want enforcement and if Palin runs the liklihood is substantially higher that she will do the toilet scrubbing needed to get it done.

Please consider that some of us here are not as uninformed as you may think.

We well understand the nature of Texas geography, and we still think a fence should be considered.

Needs to add the invaders from the rest of the world too in order to be accurate.

True enough. Its not unusual to find illegal Chinese and Arabs in my neck of the woods. If they aren't simple visa overstays, 9 times out of 10 they came across our southern border.

One other thing. UAVs are an incredibly stupid idea for patrolling the border. It takes just as many pilots and sensor operators, if not more. It requires a launch and recovery team, and the FAA has only limited tracks open for UAS.

A Predator B costs $10 million for a bird with only a camera. In Arizona CBP is required to escort those aircraft out to the small track and back. You could do a better job with a Cessna Caravan and a Wescam MX-15 and not be limited to one area.
