MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he opposes a fence along the U.S. border with Mexico.
Speaking to hundreds of New Hampshire voters at a private reception Saturday afternoon, the Texas governor says a fence would be ineffective and take too long to build.
The comments, which produced one angry shout, expose a rift with some conservative voters over Perry's immigration record. Tea party activists in Texas have been particularly upset by his steady opposition to the fence. He also signed a law giving illegal immigrants in-state tuition for Texas universities.

If you are comparing building a highway to building a border fence, that is the stupidest comparison I've ever heard...on several levels!
All of those things seem aimed only at drug trafficking, not at illegal immigration. I am left with the feeling that he is not at all interested in stopping illegal immigration.

Obviously...but this open borders issue may be great for the inside-the-beltway Republicans, but it will kill Perry with the base, as is clearly shown on this thread.
...and to think we have people saying that a country that put men on the moon, can build ski lifts and power lines on some of the scariest terrain known to man...cannot build a stupid fence next to a river. All to try to get us to be able to ignore that he’s a Bush-43 clone when it comes to illegal immigration.

I wonder how much influence the Middle Eastern Investors and Muslims Perry's been chumming with would have over him if he was President? He does love the cash flow and wheeling and dealing....so how much will he compromise? Bringing more Islamic teachings into our schools in order to have “Outreach to the Muslim Community” as Obama has instituted? Or maybe open more Mosques and Community centers as a fair trade for their wealth to assit getting the coffers full again as he did in Texas?
Many more questions should be asked of Perry as this...and then of course why he still wants open-borders but wants them secure from the drug wars so his corporate giants can remain productive unencumbered...and the free flow of cheap labor can continue.

The GOP has lied to America. In this last example, they said they were going to cut one dollar for every dollar the Debt Ceiling was increased. They cut 22 billion this year.
If the GOP lies, they will not get the votes and odumbi will be reelected. They have lied and another party is needed. If odumbi wins its the GOPs fault. The voters can not be asked to continue to support liars. How long are we supposed to believe that a fence will be built along our border? How long are we supposed to believe that a budget will be balanced? Not any longer.

Simply, because he came to the same conclusion that I did.
For a more involved answer: I opposed the TTC, the Governor now opposes the TTC, so it’s not surprising that I think he can learn and adapt to the lessons he learns. Furthermore, through watching his actions through the years, I’ve seen much more correct decisions on his part than incorrect decisions.
I suggest you actually study the Bracero program, before saying that we should surrender.

If every voter in the country was as well educated as we are here on FR a third party "might" be viable.
Since thats not the case,not evenclose, the decision is ours.Is the GOP worth fighting for? .Since that means in essence is the country worth fighting for? The answer becomes yes, IMHO.
Adopt a third party now,split the conservative vote/effort and reelect zero. Choice is yours.
The Governor doesn’t oppose it, he just had to drop it, because he can’t build it.
What makes you think he wouldn’t build it, if he could? Easy to say you have a changed heart when you have been handed you head by the people.
