Skip to comments.John Birch Society: Rick Perry Proposed Bi-National Health Insurance with Mexico
Posted on 09/05/2011 4:59:14 PM PDT by Tempest
The article focused on Perrys comments at a Border Summit speech in south Texas (8-22-01), days before the 9-11 attacks, about bi-national health insurance Texas-funded coverage for both U.S. and Mexican border residents. The governors statement favored a study, required by the Legislature, about "the feasibility of bi-national health insurance.
The DMN continued, "Katherine Cesinger, spokeswoman for Perrys campaign, downplayed the topic of bi-national health insurance. 'A bill was passed by the Legislature that authorized a study to look into this issue, which ultimately concluded there were numerous barriers to accomplishing that idea, and the Legislature took no further action on this concept,' she said." However, in spite of the Legislatures failure to act, Perry made clear his willingness to funnel Texass assets to Mexico.
Perry has consistently positioned himself as a social and fiscal conservative, but the above comments reveal a different record. Indeed, four years later, Perry noted his approval of a bigger example of socialized medicine when he embraced Hillary Clintons national health care plan.

It would be nice if there were a way to get Mexico to kick in for the medical costs incurred by their citizens that they freely encourage to seek their fortunes in El Coloso Del Norte without even asking it a formal by-your-leave.
Hi Paulbot!! *waves*
You are working overtime to post as many anti-Perry postings you can.
Then 0bama white House thanks you.
WHO are you for??? Please answer.
Rick Perry damage control will be here soon.
Don’t hold yer breathe.
Tempest in a Li’l Teapot Alert!
Coming up next on Tempest TV: Perry wouldn’t share swing at recess!!!
This Perry RINO is dirty!
Actually, that sounds like a good idea. The United States government will pay for health insurance for all United States citizens in Mexico and the Mexican government can pay for health insurance for all Mexican nationals in the United States. I’m for it!!!
Not damage control, more of you cannot believe what you lying eyes see, let me spin it for you. See if you wear these rose colored glasses and look at this blue wall there is not one word about what a liberal Perry is.
Obama will win because the only way to fight a communist is with a bigger communist.
Obama’s Saul Alinsky and Reverend Wright ties matter. But Perry policy speeches and letter don’t matter because they were written aa long time ago...
Border fence? We don’t need a border fence. we just need to get ride of the incentives. You know like the Texas Dream Act and guest worker programs Perry wants so badly.
Attack the poster not the substance of the thread!!! GAAARRRGGHHHH!!!!
San Dieago has this in place where people who live on the border can get treatment on either side. It’s insurance, people pay for so that they can utilize the facilities on both sides of the border. Mexico has some good medical facilities that caters to US citizens who need cheaper care.
Brave New World Order
The “substance of the thread” is that Perry was trying to get money for Texas insurance companies, and that he also wanted the Mexican government to pay for HC costs of Mexican nationals in Texas.
This one really is going to backfire on you, but I’m sure you’re used to it.
Whatever teapot you’re in needs to pour you out into the tupperware bowl and seal the lid firmly. This is crazy. You are the boy who cried wolf.
Perry’s errors have not involved anything as vicious as Wright’s infamous “God Damn America” or Alinsky’s flirtation with real bombs that are meant to do nothing but kill and maim.
You didn't even read the article? You just make stuff up on your keyboard on the fly. Amazing.
That was a long tme ago. Dont you need to wash your car or something ?
Obama signed a National healthcare bill and wants Bi-National merger with Mexico. Let us not lose sight of who the real threat to the future of this country is my friend! Amigo! :-)
The Perry August 2001 speech linked within the article you posted is icky (and I am not a Perry basher). I’d like to know if Perry defenders have explanations for the proposals in that speech (support for illegals, NAFTA, etc)
I suspected as soon as I saw something posted about Perry6 ten years ago that it had been posted by one of the Dem’s best friends on FR, ... Tempest ... yup. Doing your level best to help Zero get re-elected, eh?
Guess what, this is already being utilized in San Diego! It’s not free care but a freaking insurance policy available for those who live on or very near the border. There are some excellent medical facilities over the border that caters to US citizens that are thousands of dollars cheaper.
It’s no different than Sarah Palin’s family utilizing Canadian healthcare because that was the closest and better health option available.
This is actually a CONSERVATIVE and FREE MARKET IDEA ! SEE I CAN POST IN CAPS TOO!!!!!!! It gives working people a choice in their health care options. Do you know how many old people do chartered tours across the border to get cheap medicine?

WTH?! Are yo people illiterate? Who they hell feeds you this pack of lies that you’re all so guillable.
READ THE ARTICLE!!!
California? Sheesh. He is dumber than I even imagined. Perry is trying to copy California????? Yes he is Presidential material (roll eyes).
Oh, I get it, you are saying that this was nothing more than a little good old fashion crony capitalism. So just move along. OK!!
You did read it and understand it, didn't you?
Or, did you just see "Perry" and "Mexico" in the same headline over at the DUmp and decide to run it over here to post it and see if you could get things stirred up again?
Perry endorsed a STUDY. end of story.

Drat! Poor Lil’ Teapot Tempest! Now he’ll have to use his Ron Paul [yes he has 12 bumper stickers on his car]
resources to find dirty diaper stuff to post...
Ya know, Mexico has become a real pain in the @$$.
It was just a study that concluded it would be a bad idea.
I haven’t lost sight. I do not feel like replacing one peice of garbage with another. It’s time to get a pricipaled governemtn in office instead of letting the establishment repblicans make our choices for us.
I don’t know when California started allowing this. It’s insurance not welfare. You know it makes people pay the costs of their own health care not the government. I thought that was a good thing. /rolls eyes
Your article is little more than a hit piece.
He endorsed a newly proposed (circa 2001) Texas law that would allow PRIVATE Texas insurance companies to issue policies to US and Mexican citizens living within 62 miles of the border. The government would play ZERO role outside of changing the law so the insurance companies could offer the product.
It was a 100% free market solution to a huge problem in Texas -- the state with the largest number of residents in the country without health insurance.
The OP is trying to trash Perry, as usual, but his approach to this issue is 180 degrees from ObamaCare, or RomneyCare, or HillaryCare.
Not everyone agrees with Perry's approach, but the notion that this was some sort of secret giveaway of Texan's hard earned tax dollars to Mexicans is absurd.
Do you Perrybots go through profressional training. I mean you’re all so cordinated. Like you’re paid or part of a campaign team...
I know that you guys can’t actually respond to the substance of the article. you typically just engage in deflection and lies.
