I think you will find that this year they combined the Corporate donations with the call-ins from viewers to get that grand total.
The total they are quoting from last year was ONLY viewer call-ins (people like you and me) who call and give $5, $10 or $20.
Add Jerry's grand total (viewer call ins + corp money) and you'll get over $200 million as a grand total.
The new MDA may also be adding the whole year's worth of online donations to that total as well.
Fuzzy numbers if you ask me.
Next time MS has their 3 or 4 hour telethon watch the total. The last time I watched I think it was something like $3 million.
Not even Justin Beiber could pull in 61 million in 6 hours.
Fuzzy numbers. I think the liberal democrats have taken over the MDA telethon.
No donations will come from our household. MDA is done.
After telling him that he wasn’t wanted, they had the nerve to trade on his name?
The Cash or the Cure.
Thats right - they sh*t-canned Jerry, then tried to make things "right" by claiming that he would sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" [live or on-tape, I don't know] at the finale.
That was a BOGUS claim according to Jerry's press agent. He NEVER agreed to do it - although MDA DID post on its web site that he would do the song.
They raise money for a good cause - but I got NO RESPECT for those rat bastards that 86'd Jerry like yesterday's shoes. Nice move, treating the guy who has raised over $2 BILLION for you like that ...
On Jerry's part, he said that he supported and would always support MDA [refusing to bad-mouth them over their treatment of him - when he had the chance in an interview]. Jerry's a CLASS ACT - too bad we can't say the same of the MDA Board ...
They get commitments throughout the year. They probably knew an approx amt before it began.
Though Jerry never collected a wage or stipend I speculate that he charged all of his “business” costs to MDA.
To save embarrassment the MDA said Jerry retired from the telethon. i do not believe that for a minute.
