Chicago schools begin Tuesday under ‘Rahm Emanuel Generation’

After 16 years under the watchful eye of former Mayor Daley, Chicago’s public school system begins a new school year Tuesday — and launches a new generation of students — amid signs of promise as well as uncertainty.

The Rahm Emanuel Generation seems destined for a longer school day and year — as well as a tougher, more rigorous curriculum — than their Daley Generation counterparts.

But the children who walk through Chicago’s school doors Tuesday also face the biggest prospect of labor unrest and financial instability since a Republican-led Legislature handed the mayor of Chicago the ultimate responsibility for Chicago Public Schools in 1995.

Emanuel’s handpicked school leaders and the head of the Chicago Teachers Union are locked in a showdown over when the longer day will start. They face even more contentious issues in the coming months as talks begin on a new teachers contract and a new teacher evaluation tool linked in part to student test scores. Two years from now, a crippling pension tab awaits the cash-strapped district.

‘Rahm Emanuel Generation’

Maybe tone it down a bit and call it the ‘Rahm Emanuel Term’?

The Chicago cops call Rahm “Tiny Dancer,” so how about this is the start of the Tiny Dancer Disaster.

Rahm will lick the cream off the top for him and his pig buddies, and the schools will detoriate into war zones.

You got that right........nothing will stop this guy from getting his sticky fingers in the public treasury. Only reason why he ran for mayor-——to collect bigtime.

The tax-free zillions he’s got stashed offshore——collected from his Wall Street days, his days in Congress, the time with Clinton, and at Fannie May, and as O’s COS?

Not enough for the greedy little guy.

Looks like the Rhamster will be getting a stimulus program from Obama to bail out the soul food eateries.

CHICAGO (WLS) - Soul food has been a big part of the restaurant scene in Chicago since waves of African Americans moved here from the South after World War II, but it’s now getting harder to find now.

Posted 9/6/11 3:22 p.m.

In the past decade, one soul food restaurant after another has closed as the city lost around 17 percent of its black population. Changing tastes and the bad economy have also undercut the business.

Josephine Wade, owner of one of a half dozen surviving soul food restaurants, says customers no longer line up outside waiting for a booth. Vacant properties now dot her once vibrant South Side neighborhood. She’s struggling along with fewer customers, washing the restaurant linens herself to cut costs, but doesn’t know how long she can stay open.
