Bringing Tahrir Square to Washington
Frontpagemagazine ^ | Sep 2nd, 2011 | Matthew Vadum

Posted on 09/06/2011 5:27:16 AM PDT by SJackson

A coalition of leftist groups is promising to occupy part of downtown Washington, D.C. “with the intention of making it our Tahrir Square, Cairo” next month.

This exercise in Marxist mobocracy is just one of many scheduled nationwide in coming months. It will take place nearly three weeks after the Left’s “Days of Rage” occupation of Wall Street scheduled for Sept. 17.

The Washington protest is modeled after the demonstrations that brought down the Egyptian government earlier this year. It is being organized by an umbrella group called the October 2011 Coalition, which is run by David Swanson, a former spokesman for ACORN and the International Labor Communications Association.

Swanson said the event was timed to overlap with “October 2011 when the next year’s budget kicks in, in the United States which includes cuts for just about everything useful but again a larger budget for the military.” Of course through the magic of the federal government’s baseline budgeting, there probably won’t be any actual reduction in federal spending, but the Left needs to pillory a villain in order to rally its troops.

The October 2011 Coalition is asking activists to pledge to show up at and remain in Washington’s Freedom Plaza “if any U.S. troops, contractors, or mercenaries remain in Afghanistan.” It is urging protesters to “resist the corporate machine” by occupying the plaza “to demand that America’s resources be invested in human needs and environmental protection instead of war and exploitation.”

In a promotional video for the group, wild-eyed playwright Karen Malpede seemed to suggest President Obama was Paul von Hindenburg and that Nazis were poised to take over America.

I will be in Washington on October 6 because it seems more and more a Weimar sort of moment where we have a nice, well-intentioned, weak, and mealy-mouthed president and lunatics on the right wing who would rather destroy the country than do anything productive. And we’re in how many wars, six now, and counting. We have the biggest military budget in the world combined. All other countries in the world do not spend as much as we spend on our military and it’s driving the country into bankruptcy and moral bankruptcy which is more important, I think, or as important. So it’s a time for citizens who value democracy and care about the country in which they live to step forward and say no.

Malpede, incidentally, seemed to be one of the more sane individuals appearing in videos promoting the October 6 event.

Swanson said Monday that his supporters will occupy Freedom Plaza, “the name of which is very similar of course to Tahrir Square in Cairo, Egypt, and from there we are going to expand to shut down offices, buildings, streets, hallways, to nonviolently, strictly nonviolently resist what our government is doing.”

Swanson didn’t bother to address the glaring contradiction in his statement. The protesters at Tahrir Square to whom he alludes were anything but nonviolent. It is far from clear how the gargantuan government of the most powerful nation on Earth could be shut down without the use of violence.

The suggestion that nonviolent civil disobedience will be practiced that day seems to be merely an opening bid offered by the organizers, a public relations bait-and-switch calculated to appease the authorities and maximize attendance. In the world of radical activism the line between nonviolent protest and violent protest is often so thin that it might as well not exist. Unless all the demonstrators have the discipline of a Mohandas Gandhi, violence is virtually inevitable.

Your Ad Here

With few exceptions, the groups pledging to take part on October 6 aren’t exactly known for Weather Underground-caliber violence, but they’re also not known for reasonableness and restraint.

Velvet Revolution, a Tides Foundation-funded group co-founded by convicted terrorist bomber Brett Kimberlin and radical journalist Brad Friedman, is participating. So are the Communist-dominated anti-war coalition United for Peace and Justice, and other radical left-wing groups such as ANSWER (Action Now to Stop War and End Racism), Code Pink, and World Can’t Wait, an offshoot of the Revolutionary Communist Party.

In normal times a protest involving a group like World Can’t Wait, which used cheap political theatrics in a futile effort to drive President Bush out of the White House, might not matter. But in an age of massive unemployment, public unease, overheated rhetoric, and escalating political violence from the Left, the group could become a genuine threat. This is especially true if the group’s crazed adherents believe their long-awaited revolution is finally within their grasp.

As planning for October 6 continues, the Left is escalating its already-vituperative rhetoric.

A few days ago a member of the neo-communist Congressional Progressive Caucus said Tea Party supporters in Congress want the Jim Crow era to return and to see black Americans lynched. At a meeting of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN) said some in Congress would “love to see us as second-class citizens” and “some of them in Congress right now of this Tea Party movement would love to see you and me … hanging on a tree.”

This was not an isolated incident for Carson, who is also a member of the CBC. The Al Sharpton wannabe, who is one of only two Muslims in Congress, also told reporters last year that he heard the N-word hurled at Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) outside the Capitol by anti-Obamacare protesters. But it never happened. Conservative Internet news entrepreneur Andrew Breitbart offered $100,000 to anyone who could provide recorded evidence that the racial slur was uttered at the event. No one has come forward.

Joanne Dowdell, a Democratic congressional candidate in New Hampshire, said she is seeking office because the 2012 election is about “class warfare.” Dowdell is not on the fringes of her party. She is a former DNC committeewoman and was a delegate at the 2008 party convention that nominated Obama for the presidency.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) has called for runs on the banks and threatened “to tax them out of business” if they don’t forgive under-water homeowners’ mortgage principal. Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) said “racism” is largely responsible for high black unemployment rates.

A demonstrator from the Red & Anarchist Action Network was captured on video at a protest earlier this week outside the Wisconsin state capitol. He was helping to hold up a banner that read “Class Warfare. No Justice. No Peace.”

He shouted to the cameraman, “It’s coming! Get ready! All you f—- tea-party-baggers. It’s coming. Get ready.”

There is a good chance he meant it.

They’re going to create a self-inflicted bloody shirt. And we’re playing right into their hands.

Now is the time to talk about an over sized, out of control government. This wouldn't be happening if tax payer dollars weren't being handed out like candy at a parade. This is what happens when a corrupt government is so big, it can buy it's winners and losers with unlimited funds.

No, we're not playing into their hands. Remember the anti-liberal rules. Stay calm and polite, and stick to the important subjects. They can't win an honest debate. Instead of them using our rage against us, why not use their rage against them?

Wait a minute.... this IS their mother’s tea party!

The majority of Americans aren't union. Does anyone here think the majority of American voters agreed with what Hoffa said?
I don't think so. In fact, visions of union thugs smashing heads and breaking legs came into their heads. NAZI Germany and it's brown shirts may have also entered their minds. This is not away to gain favor with normal thinking Americans.
I think we should hand them more rope.

You and I know that. But it only takes one match for them to have an excuse to put out the "fire."

Hell, they don't even need one of us to lose our temper! They will provide a "lily-white" martyr dupe. Look how they played Gabby giffords for crying out loud!

It makes sense why he's pushing such outrageous policies and infuriating positions.

It's just to fluff up the kindling.

I agree. All we have to do is stay sane, and let them take themselves out. We can just sit back and watch. It's not our fault they're loons.
In fact, why not lay off a few more union members? If they can show up for rallies instead of working, the businesses are obviously over employed.

The result being a socialist dictatorship of the “Intelligentsia”.

Hell, they don't even need one of us to lose our temper! They will provide a "lily-white" martyr dupe. Look how they played Gabby giffords for crying out loud!

They made fools out of themselves - again. They tried to blame it on the TEA party, but the truth came to the surface too fast for them. They failed.

This union stuff is going to be easy for us if we just let them spew. For example - left wing bloggers"
"Put the fear of God in those ignorant sons of bitches."
"Let's ratchet up the rhetoric and fight "
"workers made real gains were the ones when you could get your head bashed in"

Do you really think the American people agree with them? Do you think the honest American citizens want to hear this crap?
I think we should simply remain calm and keep doing the work the American people want us to do. If they freak, let them suffer the political consequences. Obviously, it wouldn't us breaking windows and smashing things. It would them. The American people would be their victims rather than their advocates.

Alinski - "Entice them to anger, then use that anger against them."
So, let's really piss them off! Remain calm, collected, and focused. They'd go NUTS!

Of course. Oboma is a community agitator. That's all he knows. That's why the left wanted him in charge.
I think the American voter is sick and tired of agitation. I believe most would rather live in peace - so, let the left agitate, let us bring them peace. You'll catch more flys with honey than you will with vinegar.

Always remain calm, collected, and focused. They can't defeat that. They don't know how to deal with it. Without chaos, they have no tools.

“Obviously, it wouldn’t us breaking windows and smashing things. It would them. The American people would be their victims rather than their advocates.”

The problem is that government in general now wants to view the American system of government as the “cause of the violence”, rather than see the thugs as simply thugs, and another version of community organizers for the socialist cause.

We're in "violent anti-violent agreement!"

I'm just not sure that will be sufficient.

For example, if anywhere, what you're suggesting should be borne out in Wisconsin, where the unpleasantness of the union thugs should be evident in spades.

And, true, the Republicans held on by the skin of their teeth in the recalls and the supreme court fracas circus.

But it's not a repudiation. And here today we have new polls showing "a new low" of 44% approval for Obummer.

More than 2 out of 5 still have the temerity to say, "sure, I love the way my man is destroying this awful country!"

We can be the party of peace, common sense, and and ideas. They can be the party of war, ignorance, and chaos.

Only by the American public becoming informed (obviously not through ABC,CBS,CNN,and MSNBC)of the true nature of those who advocate “Change”, can we hope to avoid a knee jerk reaction to the violence from the socialist hard core.

I just feel we are being steered toward the situation that faced the Wiemar Republic, before Hitler came to power.
When we have been educated to believe that the Nazis were right wing, and not another branch of international socialism,it's hard for the public to see the true face of the socialist threat to our Republic.

Unions were motivated like never before, because the law affected ALL government unions around the country (indirectly). My bet is they ALL voted (add a few thousands out of staters and other fraudulent votes to that number), and the unions spent $35 MILLION - but still lost!!!
Imagine if it had been only state union money and votes. They'd have gotten creamed.
They couldn't pull this off nation wide, nor do they have the funds to do it state wide across the board (without another union funding stimulus package).

The majority of Americans aren't union thugs. The more the unions try to intimidate the America people, the more the American people will want them disassembled.
Let's put it this way - the union brown shirts are frightening people. No one wants to wear cement shoes or have their ribs busted for not voting correctly. No one wants another NAZI Germany.

Entice the unions. Let them show their true color - commie red - so everyone can see it. We won't have to educate anyone. They'll figure it out themselves.
The National German Socialist Party members were not men of peace, sense, or ideas. They were thugs.

The problem is that the mainstream media keeps harping that its Conservatives who want to impose a dictatorship, not the socialist, who have a track record of doing just that.

The technique is to accuse those who oppose you of doing exactly what you are doing (voter intimidation, voter fraud, trampling on rights and liberties). They then reinterpret the Constitution to create rights that don't exist etc.. The socialist propaganda machine is in full throttle, and aimed squarely at the 2012 election cycle.

Most union members in the past have been conservative (those who fought in WWII and Korea, but over the last thirty years or so. the leadership of the unions has been infiltrated by the socialist left.

It reminds me of Zhivago’s brother in Dr. Zhivago, who hung in the background, twisting things to bring about a Communist government.

There is a cute video out called “There's a Communist in the White House.” If only that information could be widely known.

The problem is that the mainstream media keeps harping that its Conservatives who want to impose a dictatorship, not the socialist, who have a track record of doing just that.

This is where the Republicans are weak. They don't talk enough about freedom, liberty, or free will. They don't talk about how big, expensive, and oppressive the government has become. All they have to do is start pushing that message. Who can disagree with it other than the 30% radical socialist/communist left who DOES want a dictatorship, and what could their rebuttal be?

The Republicans allow the left to set the agenda. This is why they're considered useless or spineless. It's time the right started setting the agenda, and forcing the left to follow. Get out there! Speak up! Go 24/7! Get rid of Oboma care. Get rid of Obomabulbs. Bring back Welfare to Work so the wealth can share itself. Bring people up rather than tear them down. Set then lose rather than tie them up in chains.

Most union members in the past have been conservative

Not every union member wants to get involved in the modern union. They're forced to pay. Their free will has been stolen from them.
Most of the union members today are too stupid to look at their own pay stubs. They have no idea how much they pay to support the left wing freeloaders, and that cost is going to double soon. They're engaging in a self defeating behavior, but they're too wrapped up in ignorance and deceit to figure it out.

They can "say" all they want. The pictures tell the story. We have average American people gathering together in pro-American groups wanting nothing but freedom.
Now, the left wants to crush skulls, break legs, and steal everything their neighbors have for themselves.
Put these pictures side by side. Eventually, it's going to sink in. You can't call a vulture a dove without someone noticing.

Isn't that true of the American public who don't really look at their paychecks and see how much the federal government is taking. The the government then leaves I.O.U.’s, instead of storing the funds away for the intended purpose.

I really hoped that we could stop payroll deductions, so that people would really see how much the government is taking, and then each person would have to issue a check to the government in January, or April of each year.

Of course payroll deductions started during WWII, so the government would have immediate access to funds. Recently the law establishing payroll deductions was renewed. Maybe we need to slow down the access by repealing the payroll deduction law.

This country, because of government schools, has a lot of incompetent people. Maybe we should start with a law that says every tax preparation organization must make it perfectly clear to the customer how much they PAID in taxes rather than simply how much they get returned.
This is a good start, and who can argue with people knowing what their tax burden really is? What argument can be used against giving taxpayers this knowledge?

I’ve been watching the wall street version of this on live feed. So far I’ve learned by listening to their chatter, that the computer operators are paid to work this “grass roots” protest, that there is a moderator who watches the live stream and tells them to stop certain things like cussing and smoking on air and tells them to do certain things like contact people or put the word out on something.

They have a UPS office set up to receive donations of money and supplies. People from various countries have come in. A guy spoke one day who said, “While I was living in Egypt during the revolution...” so these are people who were involved with the “grass roots” “arab spring.”

So far, not many general Americans are paying attention to them because of the media black-out. This is no doubt intentional, as they are in an organizational/training phase. They are very closely following the Arab spring pattern. The middle east was a good testing ground. They know where the kinks are, and they are getting things stream-lined.

There are already what I think of as “bases” in operation in Chicago, LA, and I think Portland (not sure about that.) There may be others. I know they were calling for Little Rock, but it’s a harder area to work, for some reason. They have been moving quickly to get others going. Funds and supplies are coming in and they keep a running list of what their needs are going over live stream.

Mean while, Iran is moving its Navy into the Pacific, and the recent black out in the Arizona/California area left crucial boarder crossing areas in the dark for several hours....plenty of time for troops to move quietly across the Mexican boarder without being detected.

Just a few observations from a basically uninformed gal.
