Toddlers and Tiaras: 3-year-old wears 'Pretty Woman' prostitute outfit
SFGate: The Mommy Files ^ | 9/6/11 | Amy Graff

Last week TLC's "Toddlers and Tiaras" reality show enraged the world with a shocking performance by a 4-year-old sporting fake C-cup boobs and acting like a 20-something.

. . .
3-year-old Paisley struts across the stage dressed as Julia Roberts in the opening scene of the movie "Pretty Woman." In thigh-high black patent leather boots and a tight blue mini skirt,

What kind of idiots even watch crap TV like this?

It's like watching a train wreck (or watching My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.) Your eyes bug out and your mouth drops open because you can't believe what you are seeing. Then they start discussing prices for the costumes, false eyelashes, wigs, etc. and you really think you have entered another universe. (Except on Gypsy where they NEVER discuss price, but you can figure it out and make your own estimate.)

Participants on both of these shows need to take a Dave Ramsey course, pronto.

Mind you, I've only watched in transit to another show. But, the stupidity is compelling.

TLC used to be a really good channel 15 years ago. Not sure what happened to them. They were like another discovery channel. Now...they are crap.

They have run out of crap to make shows about a long time ago

A little off topic but I have to agree with you. There are too many "reality shows". I know they are cheap (or cheaper) to make but all it means there are just too many channels that have to fill air time 24/7 x 365 and there is not enough creative people to do it.

I thought when they had a reality show about Repossession of automobiles was about as lame as they get, but now there are at least two others on the cable channels.

My wife did not believe me when I told her I saw a preview for a reality show on installing fish tanks. Fish tanks, really? (As a side note, a documentary on how they create some of those elaborate fish tanks would be interesting but I know that this show like all the other reality shows feel they must have drama, real or otherwise. So why bother?

Shows on pawn shops, shows on trash pickers, shows on truck stops, why not just stick a camera on each of us and we can all have our own cable show.

The good news, my television watching is down to about two hours a day and that is not every day. I am learning to live without TV.

I recall years ago when TLC actually was “The Learning Channel” and actually had some good shows.

Yeah, make another law. Heck, federalize it too so they can be charged in state and federal court. Statists always want to criminalize stupidity and no class.

I use the Mantracker show as an example of how cheesy they have gotten. How hard is it tracking two people with a camera guy and producer following them?

Moms are doing a great job of teaching their daughters that sex sells and with one of “those”, you can get “Everything” you ever want.

I was sent invitations to enter my daughter into pagents when she was little. I declined. I would never consider making my daughter up to be sluttish. She’s almost 17 now, and very descreet about her body, and I’m pleased that she wasn’t raised to think so little of herself to believe that it’s all about looks and sexuality.

My 13-year old girl prefers a t-shirt and and basketball shorts. She will dress up when she needs to. The last sleepover her friends did a “makeover” on her. Got her hair all made up, some decent makeup (I thought for sure they would overdo it but they didn’t), a cute top, and a WAY-TOO short denim skirt. But, with white leggings under it was okay.

She looked cute.

Until she put on the spiked boots. We told her she looked like a hooker.

The costumes and routines have always been questionable but this is so over the top. The sexy stuff is being cooked up by TLC. Think about it. The first episode is a curiosity but who’s going to continue to watch. Boring. Seen one pageant, seen’em all. So, some idiot producer starts spicing it up. Plus, these people have to be getting paid for their time and “if you want that check we suggest you try this” and on and on. Kate and her brood started out cute and clean and we know where that went. The only reality TV is when you’re neighbor is peeking in the window.

“A kid named Paisley?”

And when she grows up, she can marry Brad Paisley’s son, and become Paisley Paisley!

I went to college with a girl named Paisley. As you observe, it’s a legitimate surname, which makes it no dumber than any other “last name as first name.”

They have boys in the pageants. We’ve watched the show. It’s very strange.

The moms that put their boys in the pageants are really, really strange.

Pedophiles.

No doubt some child, somewhere, will be molested as a result of a pedophile working himself up over this show - and the producers are morally culpable (although unfortunately not legally).

Guilty as charged

My teen DD and I watch together and ridicule the Moms- makes her appreciate me more. It has also helped her to understand what “pedophilia” means

I think we watch this show with the same horrible fascination as watching a slow motion train wreck

It's like watching a train wreck (or watching My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.) Your eyes bug out and your mouth drops open because you can't believe what you are seeing.

More like a scale-model staging of a train wreck. Most of this garbage isn't for real. And even when it is there's a lot of hamming for the cameras. The hope is that they'll become famous and perhaps have a career in show business.
