Rick Perry moves ahead of Mitt Romney in race for GOP nomination in new poll
Washington Post ^ | 9/6/11 | Dan Balz

Posted on 09/06/2011 3:58:50 PM PDT by CA Conservative

Aided by strong tea party support, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has surged in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, pushing former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney into second place and significantly diminishing the once-rising star of Rep. Michele Bachmann (Minn.), according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Isn't it ironic? I get the same thing on Palin threads when I voice my opinion, concerns and recorded facts for why I do not support her as a candidate. And I have avoided saying terrible things about her as a person, only her political record. And I get accused of all sorts of hateful things.

So, FRiend, I am no stranger to how you feel. I understand your position quite well. It's those downright slanderous posters who I am talking about. Not you.

lol! Not from me. But I am glad to see that you know what I am talking about.

As for 'slanderous'...

I've posted many things about Perry that have been labeled as such. We may not like what we hear about our candidate of choice (even tho I have yet to decide) but that doesn't make it slanderous. There is a lot about Rick Perry that conservatives don't like; I know you have seen them so I needn't list them here. But that doesn't make them slanderous. I think Perry is a liberal. You might call that slanderous. But given what I see as a very liberal past I think that label fits. I'm sure you get my point.

Anyhow, it would be good to post what we see as negatives regarding all candidates w/o being attacked for our troubles; it's called vetting and it's what we should do. If a candidate's past can't withstand the light of day then so be it.

Cheers.

I would love to see the old kind of unity we used to have on this forum during the early Bush years. There also seemed to be a whole lot more participation in those days.

You can be assured that I won't single you out either FRiend. I fully respect you position and honor your opinion. Let's hope we can all start focusing on winning this election, not just fighting about it.

Just on the basis of turnout for her speeches I think she can win the nomeination. It’s indicitave of enthusiasm, which is the key to victory. No other candidate has it to that degree.

The early Bush years were during 911 and before he had revealed himself to be a RINO of Rick Perry proportions. :-P

Most of the country was united behind him then.

But yes, unity would be nice. I can't see it happening though as many, myself included, will never accept Perry for anything but what we already think/know he is. But we can at least try to be more civil in our discourse as we conservatives attempt to open your eyes. :-)

Cheers.

Your tagline say a lot.
You don’t think that people that take an oath to this country and spill their blood in the defense of it deserve citizenship?

Its sad that we have to conscript people into our army but it is sadder that you wont do their the heavy lifting and you piss on people that do.

I am just a po ass blue collar kid from the foot hills of Appalachia and I am no big wheel like you, but what do I know?

Why? I didn’t know she was invited to debate!

After being called a liar for quoting directly from Rick Perry speeches taken from the governor’s own website enough times, its become kind of hard to respect a good many of his supporters.

Yesterday I was accused of quoting lies from a Ron Paul website when I was actually quoting whole paragraphs of a Perry speech. I have no use for Ron Paul but if what I quoted had been posted there, at least they were telling the truth.

If I change my mind about Perry, it will be by his doing alone, not by listening to other misguided opinions. (Take no offense by that.) I come from Military cloth, and Rick Perry, very much belongs to my strong band of Brothers. He served, still serves, and is a man of high honor in my opinion.

I think anyone who ILLEGALLY enters this country in clear and deliberate violation of our laws deserves no more than a bus ride back to the border and a swift kick in the ass.

Its sad that we have to conscript people into our army but it is sadder that you wont do their the heavy lifting and you piss on people that do.

Ummmm...conscription ended in 1973 so there is no draft. You did know that, didn't you? And you have no idea who I am or what I have done for this country so your opinion of me matters not.

I am just a po ass blue collar kid from the foot hills of Appalachia and I am no big wheel like you, but what do I know?

You didn't know the draft ended 38 years ago and you didn't know the difference between a border fence meant to keep ILLEGALs out and the Berlin Wall which was erected to keep East Germans in. The rest of your sordid opinion of yourself is of no interest to me.

I find myself in agreement with you. Isn't that scary?

While I support Perry, I'm not ready to join in the Palin bashing. But a lot of the Palin supporters are rabid Perry bashers.

I was a Palin supporter up until this week. I had declared that if she did not announce by the speech last Saturday that I was going all in for Rick Perry. Her decision to not make a decision (she didn't have to "officially" announce; she could have just said that "yes, I plan to run") makes her appear to be indecisive. And frankly, we need someone who can make decisions (even on occasion the wrong ones).

If you have to compare Perry to Obama to make him look good that isn't saying much for your candidate. :-P

I don't really expect to sway anyone's opinion though it has happened.

And Perry may have served, so did Kerry, so did McCain, heck, so did Jimmah Carter. It's what they have done since and what they propose to do in the future that I'm concerned with. Do you support amnesty for ILLEGALs?

They are disobeying a law that is not being enforced. If you lived in abject poverty in Mexico and your only hope of economic survival for you and your family was to cross over an unguarded border and break a law in another country which is not being enforced, would you not move heaven and earth to do it?

I don't have anywhere near as much animosity for the illegal aliens as I do for the politicians and employers who encouraged them to come here and break our laws.

Tell me 40, did you get to be a big roller by being born with a silver spoon in your mouth or did you do it by being a bully?

I suspect a little of both.

Absolutely not FRiend. I do NOT support amnesty for illegals. I believe they should lose that right because they violate Federal Law and engaged in criminal trespass on our sovereign soil.

Perry is misunderstood in this area, as well as misquoted. Perry believes that we should patrol the borders with military guard and stop all flow of illegals across the border. His belief that if they join the Military and serve this country, that they should be granted an exception. This is not new. All sorts of non citizens joined our Military in WW2 and won citizenship after it was all over. Many of them also died for our country.

In this category, they deserve to be rewarded citizenship. Perry is right to have the courage to take a stand on this issue in my opinion.

always try to make all Perry Treads become about Palin, or anti-Perry festivals
Every single Perry thread.

Every single one.

There are about 20 of these bozos and they take turns, work in shifts.

There's always one or two of them at the ready to go in and take a crap on a thread they "don't like".

I went to Libya and Russia

I had it freakin easy compared to some of these Hispanic Kids that believe in America.
