New Orleans police are asking for the public's help to locate a "person of interest" in a shooting this morning on Dodt Street.
Josh Tapp, 24, is not a suspect in the incident, according to New Orleans police, but detectives would like to speak with him about his involvement.
A 21-year-old man was shot to death after he and a 22-year-old man kicked in the door of a home in the 4500 block of Dodt Street about 1:30 a.m., according to police.
A 24-year-old man and a woman were inside the home when they heard the front door being kicked in. The man grabbed a gun and shot the suspects as they entered, according to a NOPD spokesperson.
The suspects ran from the scene and the 22-year-old collapsed a short distance from the home. He was taken to the hospital and is listed as stable. The 21-year-old man ran to a car waiting nearby. He later died at a hospital.
Detectives said they believe the men involved knew each other and that the incident stemmed from an argument. All three of the men had multiple arrests on drug and other charges. The 22- and 24-year-old were both on probation for possession of heroin.
Charges are pending at this time and the incident remains under investigation. The names of those involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Homicide Det. Christopher Harris is in charge of the investigation and can be contacted at 504.658.5300. Citizens with information that can help locate Tapp can also call Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111 or 877.903.7867.
