Bozell Column: Skipping Violent Talk on the Left
Newsbusters ^ | 09-6-11 | Brent Bozell

After the mass shooting in Tucson of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a federal judge, and other bystanders, President Obama gave one of those unite-the-divide speeches that give journalists leg thrills. We need to “sharpen our instincts for empathy,” he said.

He lamented political finger-pointing: “It's important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.” The initial speculation was that conservatives were responsible for the Tucson horror. Even after this proved to be false, the attacks were relentless, with a barrage of media reports on the alleged excesses and mean-spiritedness of the Tea Party and all things right of center.

On Labor Day, Teamsters president James Hoffa was in Detroit addressing a rally starring the president. Hoffa told Obama there was a “war on workers,” and the unions were Obama’s “army.” He said: “We are ready to march. Let’s take these sons of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong.” Obama then showed up and said that voters would be looking for “straight shooters.” The rhetoric was just fine by him.

The same media that mercilessly attacked conservatives after the Giffords shooting couldn’t ignore this, you say? True, the venue was too high-profile: a union leader at an Obama rally on Labor Day. While ABC, CBS, and NBC were compelled to notice, there was virtually no outrage. Indeed, The Washington Post and The New York Times skipped right over it.

So much for “all the news that’s fit to print.”

Were a conservative – Perry? Palin? Bachmann? – to talk in martial terms about “taking out” the opponent, immediately the media headlines would scream “Conservatives Threaten President.” Minutes later, there would be calls on the Justice Department to investigate this physical threat.

But leftists can use these terms at will. A month ago, Politico reported on an anonymous Democratic strategist with White House ties declaring “Unless things change and Obama can run on accomplishments, he will have to kill Romney.” ABC, CBS, and NBC skipped that one. The Post and the Times stepped over it, too.

On August 22, at a Congressional Black Caucus event in Miami, Congressman Andre Carson, Democrat from Indianapolis, said “Some of these folks in Congress right now would love to see us as second-class citizens...Some of them in Congress right now of this Tea Party would love to see you and me...hanging on a tree.”

Carson clearly didn’t think about talking “in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.” But ABC, CBS, and NBC all skipped that one, too, as did the Post. The New York Times ran a brief item on how Rep. Allen West was thinking about quitting the Black Caucus over Carson’s remarks.

NPR noticed this tape on August 24 and played it on the afternoon show “Talk of the Nation.” Political director Ken Rudin said “Listeners should know that we talked about whether to air this tape or not. But if a Republican had said something like this, you know, something outrageous like this, we would of course say it, use it, because it just shows the extremes that people have gone to.”

Good for Rudin. But he was the exception. Most media outlets ignored these extreme comments without blinking, or had a discussion that ended with the order “Spike it.”

Normally, an expose of alleged conservative rhetorical excess is followed by the pressure to apologize. In Hoffa’s case, however, there’s been none. Not only that, but when asked, Democratic Party chairman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz flat-out rejected the notion. “I know you'd like to focus on language, that's not what the American people are focused on,” she told Fox News.

This is especially rich, since Wasserman-Schultz is a close friend of Giffords and made the rounds of TV interviews in January to discuss the dangerous talk in (conservative) politics. She told Katie Couric on CBS the first thing her daughter asked her was “Mommy, are you going to get shot?” She claimed her little girl worried that “Mommy, Florida's going to pass an immigration law like Arizona and then people are going to be mad at you.' You know, they're paying attention. The civil discourse is very important because it's not just – it's not just adults that – that this permeates. It's our children.”

If the networks had any interest in fairness or balance, they’d be asking the DNC chair to denounce the harsh language. So what’s worse, the hypocrisy of Obama & Co.? Or the aid and comfort provided by the “news” media when they ignore that hypocrisy?

Pravda media. It declared war on America with the promotion and election of Obama. Now it is full of double standards as they eagerly want to take out the tea party because it keeps them from going back to the usual business of promoting the left.

ABC, CBS, NBC, WP & NYT are all hookers that “walk the street”, and worse, every night for their pimp, the DNC.

When a leftard/libtard is running his/her suckhole about “bipartisanship” or “reaching across the aisle” or “can’t we all just get along?”

They mean, “when will you learn to stfu and go along with our program!”

That is all that is ever meant. Anyone thinking different just ain’t been paying attention for the last half century or more.

A good fix for such inattention at such important times as these is the same fix I suggest for the intellectually inbred morons that believe any increases in taxes won’t just be spent x5 before the following year.

That fix is:

Get a 2 foot square of plywood. Paint one side bright yellow and stencil Think! across the top of it.

Then drive a green sinker through the center from the backside of the plywood so that the pointed end is on the painted side.

Paint the nail bright red and label it Reason!

Hang the plywood, painted side out, on the wall of your choice with the nail about about forehead height.

Slam head repeatedly against nail until either Reason! penetrates the skull, or a Darwin Award is earned.

If the instruction is survived, it is a simple thing to Think! about how painful it is to have Reason! manually inserted into the brain every time the plague is passed in daily wanderings throughout the house. This should unjam the Think!/Reason! interface and keep it unjammed for a good while.

I can't imagine tensions being any higher on this date in 1860 than they are right now, this morning, while you're having that morning coffee.

When Sarah announces there will be a barrage of legal challenges to her personally and to the Tea Party by government agencies and political action groups. We can also expect to see agitators at rallies generating violence. It will get very, very ugly. Do not expect the MSM to be objective or truthful in all of this. They will be actively promoting chaos and blaming all violence on conservatives. It is vitally important to adopt a nonviolent strategy to counter malicious intent on the left.
We are still a society that respects the truth. We must believe that we can win this struggle by taking the high ground. Should the time come when we are being murdered in the streets by government police action open warfare will be required. Until then we must not engage in acts of violence or retaliate with violence. We can win the hearts and minds of our fellow citizens with reason, truth and justice.
Compromise with leftist dogma is absolutely not acceptable. The destructive force of Marxist doctrine must be understood by all Americans. We must finally bury this evil doctrine. We do this by shining the bright light of truth and reason. We keep the faith with those who love this country and seek its return to greatness.
No compromise, no violence and speak truth into the darkness of deceit. This is our campaign. Now, if we only had a leader who believed these principles and was willing to fight for them. Oh, right, there’s Sarah. Don’t see anyone else.

I am a proud member of the “sons of bitches.” I eagerly await these union thugs trying to take me out. Bring it, you big-mouth, lard-assed cowards. I want my tax money back that bailed out your union pay and benefits at GM and Chrysler - the companies your union thuggery bankrupted.

LF, thanks for the thought and effort that went into your reply.

My problem with it is perhaps semantic, though to a degree that's problematic to what's left of my mind.

Until then we must not engage in acts of violence or retaliate with violence

The verb retaliate above is, imho, simply loaded with a self-shackling negative connotation in that it implies any resistance to evil to be 'violent', hence unacceptable somehow.
I've lived my life by the rule of not taking the first swing, but said rule does not oblige me to allow that swing to connect !
Should zombie rabble decide to swing up this driveway threatening me/mine, it is absolutely not incumbent upon me to allow them to connect with blows or bullets before responding.
As many as possible of those that attempt harm will be met with lethal force.
Such is my duty both as a man and a responsible citizen.

Said admonition strikes me as a re-wording of the whole 'turn the other cheek' thing with which I'm in firm disagreement, and posted the following to that effect here just awhile ago:

That whole (other cheek) concept always struck me as something disturbingly similar to an unfunded mandate.
Especially from one who supposedly kicked ass and took names amongst the moneychanger set.

If that's blasphemous/heretical/etc then so be it.
If whatever God is has a problem with good people protecting their loved ones and their work, or with defensive martial acts against evil bastards raping our Nation, then please mark me down as firmly in the 'heathen' column.

ymmv .. cheers

Why doesn’t someone do something about it?

Well, unfortunately, those who self identify as conservative tend towards being reasonable folk.

Reasonable folk don’t arm up and get busy until a bit after it’s too late to do any good.

It’s worse than that - they’ve drunk the communist koolaide.

“If only we can expunge capitalistic thought, the resulting communist paradise will be heaven on earth. Man will be perfected, and WE will be in charge of it all.”

Why do you think such numerically inferior groups are ramping up the violent rhetoric? Are they stupid and can’t count? Perhaps.

But more likely, they’ve been given the implicit promise that the government will back them if the other side “retaliates”.

I absolutely agree, if they threaten me or mine, I will “retaliate”. But this is what they are pushing for - someone they are bullying to actually fight back.

At that point, look for the race/victim card to be shouted from the rooftops, and demands made that the government do something about these “cracker vigilantes” that are “attacking” the poor, downtrodden victims of society.

Nonviolence is profoundly agressive. It is not a reaction to violence. It instigates violence. Jesus was, indeed, in your face. He took names and personally assaulted evil doers with the power of moral outrage. The outrage he instigated led to his death.
Ultimately he defeated evil and death with his ressurection. He died once that all of us might be saved. Saved not from death but from the sting of death, that we might live with him eternally.
Dare I say it. A good death exposes the root of evil and the power of God’s love.

Even the founders recognized that people tend to put up with a lot while tyranny is “tolerable”, and only about a third of them at the time finally determined that the situation had become “intolerable”.

‘Turn the other cheek’ implicitly refers to a level of violence that is well below damage or destruction. It refers to an act that can be brushed aside if the ego is controlled. That, I believe is the point of the injunction, the HEART not the cheek.

I think we'll all be talking about this stuff a LOT more in the months ahead.

At the moment however, and for the past 6hrs, me and the big shopvac are aiding/abetting the two big sumps
in some serious retaliatory action against this damned 'Katia-raining-trucksful-per-hour' attack.

In the meantime:
take care
buy more ammo
store canned goods
hoard TP
and be alert

That whole story by Debbie W-S about her risk of getting shot & why stinks to high heaven. It’s akin to Hillary’s Bosnian sniper claim — totally unverifiable. I would suggest that News editors not publish such self-serving political drivel. It smacks of Nazi propaganda.

Found this over at Castra Praetoria

http://castrapraetoria1.blogspot.com/

“To sit home, read one’s favorite paper, and scoff at the misdeeds of the men who do things is easy, but it is markedly ineffective. It is what evil men count upon the good men’s doing.” - Theodore Roosevelt

I do believe that the above applies to today’s events and explains just how this hole got dug so deep to begin with.

Any compromise with the leftards only means the hole digging slows down and only slows down temporarily. The hole never gets refilled and we never manage to climb out of the hole.

We get comfortable in our continued and continuous degradation.
